I don't think the developers will consider it a bug. Prior to OOTP17, you could create leagues and erase all history without a problem. The problem there was if you created your league during a year that a player missed the entire season, that player would remain absent from your league from that point on. So for example, if you created a league in 1905, you would have Eddie Cicotte in your league. If you created your league in 1906 or 07, Eddie Cicotte would never exist in your baseball world. This was considered a bug, as from my understanding quite a few people compained. OOTP17 fixed the issue of players that missed the season you started out with never returning, but it made erasing all history a lot harder to do.

One way around the Johnny Evers issue is to make sure you select "import all history" for any historical league you plan on erasing all history. When you create such a league, make sure to add minor leagues with enough levels to assure that all free agents get signed and no matter how bad, that they get at least one at bat or one inning pitched. If Johnny Ever or Leach in your case, accumulates OOTPland stats, then the issue of a player returning with 16 years worth of stats will go away. The key is for every player to accumulate some form of stat, be it at the major league level or minor league level. This is not fool proof, but it's one method that seems to work.

When I get home, I'm going to try what you said in regards to deleting the free agents. I never tried that. I'm going to start in 1920. I will make sure Johnny Evers gets deleted. I will then sim through 1921 and see if he reappears in 1922 or remains absent. Maybe deleting him/free agents is a way of recreating the old OOTP16 method of operation. I sure hope so.

Just got to thinking. I wonder if one creates a league in say 1969 or 1970, if Minnie Minoso is a free agent? Is he a free agent from 1965-1975, or does he just reappear in 1976?

Started new game 1970. Career mode, did not import complete history up to 1970. Everything at default. And……..



Minnie is no where to be seen, not on team, not a free agent.
He does not appear until 1976 as a free agent.
Checked his OOTP career stats and it shows his real life stats up to that point.
Checked leaderboard and he was listed as #26 for all times hits (although he did not really have a single AB in the created league).

If you don't import complete history then you're totally helpless when it comes to these types of players(BradK pointed this out to me several versions back). This of course, makes me doubt whether simply deleting a free agent will solve the problem, as I have a feeling I could delete Johnny Evers in a league created in 1921 and he would simply reimport for 1922 with all his 16 years of statistical glory.

If you get the chance create 69 or 70 with complete history and see if Minnie is a free agent.

Just did again, 1970. If import complete history up to 1970 IS checked, Minnie DOES show up as a free agent.

Thanks for doing this. Saved me from having to do it when I get home from work. Deleting free agents is not the answer.

Let's remember that you are the one who discovered players have to play at some level for it to work. Reserve rosters don't cut it.

It's been going on for a long time. How is it a bug? You're deleting history but you're expecting the game to delete history you didn't import.
