Real players, Fictional Teams, not Random Debut

Can I use fictional teams and have the real players import in a draft in their real years or will it reset to the actual teams every season?

You can set up a historical game and rename all the teams. I remember reading something about maybe preventing the names from changing back to historical. It might be the expand league automatically button. I'm not sure. Try turning it off and see.

League settings>Leagues&Teams and change to anything you want.
Turn off league evolution. where ever that is.

You can also make a fictional league, set the draft to draft historical players and them players will come into the league in the year they came into the league. So, start your fictional league with fictional teams and minors, if you want to see Babe Ruth make sure you start the league before he was brought into the MLB, which was 1914, so start it 1912 or 1913, make sure that import historical rookies is on, make sure that the option for random is off.

Now only players that made it to the Majors will be in these drafts so you may want to have fictional players as well being created to fill the void of lack of players in the minors.

Use the historical wizard to create whatever year you want as your start year. When creating your league make sure you disable the EXPAND ACCORDING TO HISTORY option. This is really important. If left on, all your fictional teams will revert to the historical format/teams during your first offseason. One thing you can do to save time is to go into advanced and change all the teams to your desired locations/nicknames. This way when the game creates the league, the teams will already have the logos and uniforms etc. Once your league is created, you can move or format your divisions and leagues, delete teams etc. As long as you have the draft turned on, your league will have an amateur draft each season with however many players made their debuts that season.

Is it possible to have the historical rookies debut at 18 years old for the amateur draft instead of their debut age? I recall in the past there was a database for that.

I'm just getting back into OOTP after a number of years, sorry

One thing you should keep in mind is, erasing league history isn't as simple as just erasing league history. For example, if you were to start your league in 1921, create fictional teams and erase all history, everything will be fine until you get to the offseason. When the offseason rolls around, if you look at your historical leaderboard it will be the Johnny Evers show. Reason being, Johnny Evers played from 1902-1917 and then returned to play 1922 and then again in 1929. When Evers returns in 1922, he will do so with all his stats from 1902-1917. The mass majority of your players will only have 1 season worth of stats, while Evers will have 16 seasons worth. Any other player that returns will also return with all their stats.

I've neve figured out a 100% fool proof way to beat this, but one thing that can work is, to make sure you select import complete history when creating your league. Doing this will mean Johnny Evers will be among the leagues free agents when the league gets created. The next thing is to create enough minor league levels to make sure every single player gets drafted and gets a chance to accumulate at least one at bat and or inning pitched at some level be it A ball through MLB. If Johnny Evers gets drafted and gets one at bat, it will cancel out his return in 22 with 16 years worth of stats.

Import full minors.

You can delete everyone who never made it to MLB if desired.

With this setting a player's minor league stats are considered in his ratings.

No it is very easy to delete everything! You delete all MLB stats AND you also delete all player stats and then, boom, all stats are gone and it's easily done in the first page of league settings.

You can remove all service time, MLB career stats, ALL career stats, and erase the entire league history! So, then it wont become the Evers show. Everything will be blank even when the off-season rolls around because no one will have stats prior to the year you started.

I created a video it is still uploading the HD version but this shows you how you can create an MLB like totally FICTIONAL world, where you do not have to worry about anything changing when the off-season rolls around. You will have fictional players with a historical draft. If you don't want fictional players, you can delete them but I will say, I have ran this type of world and having fictional players mixed with the historical players is amazingly fun. Now ONLY rookies that had playing time in the MLB will make your historical draft.

The only thing I didn't do was customize the teams with custom logos or uniforms, but I went through the whole setup process to set the league to what year you want to start in, then setting your financials and league totals/stat modifiers to whatever year you want to base your league in.

So, if you want to have all rookies come in from 1901 but want to play like it is 1980, I show you how to set that.

So if this is the setup you are looking for, here is the video:

Just created 1921. I erased MLB career stats for all players. I erased all career stats for all players. I erased the entire league history. I then erased the service time of all players.

I then fast simmed the 1921 season. Then I simmed to draft day. Here is a screenshot of my leagues historical leaderboard.

This should not be doing this and I am going to post this as a bug because I have never seen this happen before. Once it's deleted it should not have stats for any of the players because they are gone. otherwise the single season ones should also reset but they are not, only the career ones are and that makes zero sense.

Johnny Evers, he is a FA in your league ain't he. Cause in mine it is pulling Tommy Leach and HE is a free agent and everyone that has a different date than 1921, in my league, are free agents. So, when you delete all the stats, OOTP is skipping anyone that is a free agent.

BUT if you look at yours, Babe Ruth matches his 1921 batting average, his slugging matches, and his OBPS, his OBP, his home runs match your 1921, but I bet you 100% Evers is a FA in your league because all my FA messed up mine as well. As you will see with my screenshots, the spots not taken by Tommy Leach, match the stats from 1921 in my screenshots and as you see by the screenshot Tommy Leach is a FA. So I have reported this bug.

So, how about that... we found a bug and found out what is causing it! AND the reason I didnt have it in my league I created is I deleted all the free agents before I started my league because they were all old guys or guys that would never make it into the league.

It’s been a bug for years and has been posted as a bug. And it is not just FA.
Start a league in 1901 (1943 would even be better). Go to league functions, bottom left of page and delete all 8 items on bottom left (career stats, league history, service time, etc.). Play out 4 or 5 years and check leader boards. You will see guys on your leader board (Jim Ryan, Dan Brothers and a few others) that missed 1901, 1902, etc IRL due to injury but when they do reappear IRL in 1904 or 1905, and debut in your league and the leaderboard will list them based on their IRL stats prior to 1901. They will be the leaders for games played, ABs, Hits etc.
This will be even more noticeable if you start your game in 1943 or 1944. Again erase those 8 items in league functions. Play till 1946. All those guys that weren’t in your league at startup (due to the war) will be showing up on debut draft but the leaderboard will include their pre war stats.
There is a way around this. If I want to start my league in 1901 I actually start in 1895, sim to spring 1901. All the guys that missed 1901 IRL due to injury or whatever will be in the game but injured. Go to league functions, erase all 8 items again, select inaugural draft. The guys that missed 1901 due to injury are available for the draft but will show injured for the year and just like all the other players, their career stats will be zeroed out.
