Logo Set - MLB Historical Outlined with White Border

Hey everyone

The way logos were displaying on the dark color backgrounds of main upper area was driving me nuts. So I created a set that puts a little white border around logos - this lets the logo stand out from dark backgrounds. While I like to play without Facegen so I have full size logos in that area, I'm sure this set would work ok with facegen on as well. I started a random year and attached some examples.

These really shine as well with older historic team logos , the borders really spruce them up.

I initially just started with current logos (as of '24), but ended up doing all historical logos for every MLB historic team.

Hope someone gets some value out of this !

FYI while just throwing these in the Logos folder seems to work 99% of the time, I did run into a few issues with OOTP25 taking priority of the existing .oi image files over my .png's. Not sure why this was, but an example would be the Colorado Rockies. My advice would be to remove the .oi files for teams. But keep in mind this has to be done every update. I made a copy of the Logo's folder, removed the MLB team .oi's, put my set in that folder. I just delete the default Logos file on updates and replace it with mine.

Updated Version 1.1 with 1901-1902 Cleveland team logos:

Agree with you, mikecos23... it's a little thing that makes the game more enjoyable.
Nice work.

I have always used the black background and made sure that the logos would stand out on the dark background... many times I have asked the graphics guys to add white borders.

I have never been able to do logos well, so I have to depend on others.

Thanks for sharing your work.

You're welcome, glad you can use them !

Someone had done a similar set years ago, but I couldn't find them so I just made my own !

I miss the "Thanks" button at times like this. Let me tell you how timely this is:
  1. Much as I wanted to resist, I succumbed yesterday to buying OOTP 25 (once again, I was lured like a fish; this time by the development lab).
  2. Much as I wanted to resist, I succumbed to my usual desire to play MLB fictional/historical (fictional players, real teams and league evolution). I may be a masochist for that dreadful Dead Ball Era.
  3. I was looking for a current Detroit Tigers home uniform (Silvam's otherwise excellent historical mod is missing them after 1960) when I spied this thread. From yesterday!
Great work. Now darker logos pop out, particularly against the black background of the pull-down menu. Thanks again. (Habitually moved the mouse, looking for the "Thanks" button. Alas.)

Thanks it's truly appreciated, glad you can use these logos !

I love starting an early MLB historical save 1903-ish and watching all the logos evolve over the years. Right now though I started with 1985 and am up to 1992 already with OOTP25. The game seems to have gotten some flack, but I am really enjoying this release. Especially the UI feels cleaner and views better for me than in recent years.

Silvam's work is second to none, I enjoy his mods every year. Amazing what he has contributed !

Thank you; these are great. I, too, like to watch the logos evolve. I started in 1998 and am currently in 2005.

One quick question: how did you go about applying the borders (line width, etc.). I'd love to make some of these changes to some of the minor league logos as well.

When I posted here last time, I was using the Classic Skin. For a number of reasons, all involving the fact that the developers favor and use the Dark Skin which is therefore more goof-proofed, I have "gone over to the dark side." (It took some getting used to but it does look good, I must say.)

So now, I must double my thanks for this set of white-bordered historical logos. Before, I was chiefly concerned about the pull-down menus in the Classic Skin, which are black. Now, however, if I didn't have your mod, I frankly could not even see some of these old-time logos on team pages, player profiles, standings, and such.

Thanks, times two!

Heh, no sooner did I say that about "the dark side" than I started thinking about the Classic Skin again. I switched back, and it was like seeing the face of an old lover. Or something.

I have a thing for that look, apparently, and as much as I was leaning to the Dark Skin, my visceral response upon switching back to the Classic Skin has convinced me to stay with it.

Well, for now, at least. It sure looks good with the background replaced by a wood grain pattern, and your work makes logos pop out from it. And if I ever change my mind again about "the dark side," I am logo-ready for it.

So the double thanks stay in effect!

I've been using the dark skin, but you are right these do look good with the classic skin as well !

I think for my next save I am going to do a start from 1903, I like seeing the early logo evolution, it's crazy how many versions some teams used early on. Adding the border really helps a lot of these older logos stand out. I tried to clean up some of them as well, as some were a bit rough.

From your Don Mattingly avatar, I think I can guess why you start in 1903.

I lean the same way but being a crazy person, I prefer 1901 and the Baltimore Orioles for two years because it was the beginning of the American League and because the year tells me how many seasons I have played. I told you I was crazy.

So, for two years, I play the Birds. I tweaked your logos for those years, preferring to keep the distinctive "O" for both rather than switching to the "B" of 1902. Too many other "B"s around at that time.

And during those years, if you ever decide to play them, you would need logos for the Cleveland Blues/Bronchos. This is not your oversight, as they are missing from the collection that you based your work upon. White-trimmed Cleveland "C"s:

Thanks for pointing this out, I will have to add logos for Cleveland Blues/Broncos, not sure how I missed that ! I was using Chris Creamer's site as a reference doing each team all at once, I think I missed that on that site since it looks like it has the Blues separated the from the Nats, forgot that Cleveland used the Blues early on !

Wow, I have never had such a good start before! A three-peat followed by a close second place last season. (Spare a thought for the hard luck Giants, though).

I attribute this good fortune to the quality team logos that I am now using.

Yeah, I'd been using classic too but given that I use dark mode for all of my apps at work now, it just made sense to flip to dark mode and the white outlined logos are a real help to that IMO. To me it's not even necessarily about "looking good", it's that when I look at screens for several hours a day, I like for them to cause as little eyestrain as possible and looking at dark screens with light text seems to cause less than the other way around.

Glad this set is of use for you ! The one area these really improve for me is any screen that displays all the small logos at once, like the League Standings. It was driving me nuts that the default logos were kind of just blending into the dark background and hard to see on those types of screens.
