Professor Luckymann's Lab 2.0
OK, so a fairly substantial change of approach in this version from that used in its predecessor.
For LL2.0, I'll be putting players through their paces in batches of no more than four, using my curated versions over predetermined career spans that roughly align with the IRL and keep the years Eric Chalek used for his MLEs in mind as well. I'll simply be manually importing these players in their rookie year as Draftees and editing them on the first day of each offseason, as I did in LL1.0. For some groupings, players will come in over different start years and the grouping will run until the final player in that group has retired. This should ensure both that player usage and the stats generated across the league will only be affected in a very minuscule fashion. One big change this time is that I will be trying out what is hopefully my final methodology for the pitchers, save what I'm sure will be some necessary fine tuning. Also, there will be no historical minors in this version, just the MLB as per the historical other than the color bar being removed. LL2.0 will be looking at the players much more individually than 1.0 - no categories or anything like that. Once the player's career has been simulated in its entirety, I will post each separately with stats, analysis and commentary. Finally, it is being conducted on OOTP25. LL2.0 Player Roll Call
This will keep track of which players have been covered and provide links to the post for each with the results / analysis / commentary. If you see a hyperlink, that means the player's career has been simulated and his post at least started. If you just see the name, it means the player's simulation is currently in progress.

Sim 1: 1920 Group A
So, for convenience sake, I am going to start off by doing the big group from 1920. There are five 1920 groups to come through, along with one combining two each from '20 and '21. After they are done, we'll start from the beginning at 1901 with pre-1901 players pushed back to have their rookie season in 1901.
Wherever possible, groups will be selected to keep the retirement years as closely bunched as possible and to give a mix of position players and pitchers. The first of these groups - 1920A, as it will be referred to - consists of the following players:

Just curious, after manually importing NeL players and editing them in their first season, do you continue to edit them each season for the duration of their careers?

For position players, I only edit their baserunning, defensive and hitting ratings (so, not the other peripherals). For pitchers, I only edit their pitching (so, not hitting or defensive or peripherals). The idea is to eventually create my own DB once I settle on the right stats. Still plenty of work before I am ready to do that, though. G |

I'm not sure how to make our work support each other's, but it seems silly for it not to. I'm open to any thoughts you might have.
Obv, my net is far wider than yours is and, hence, the progress much slower. But the end product is similar: a version of the OOTP database that has "better" MLEs for these players than they currently do. Or, perhaps, better stated, MLEs that perform better within the game.

That is the long-term fallback position if the devs don't do it properly and in a timely fashion, which I absolutely expect they will do.
It also gives me a nice reference point even if the necessary changes are made officially just so I can see how their figures match up with mine and vice-versa. I don't think the extra set of eyes looking at it from a different perspective hurts the whole process, either. Plus it's a real passion of mine and exercises like this hopefully keep it in the public eye, so I see multiple benefits from doing it. Not long off our first results! G |

I'm sorry about all the questions, but in OOTP 24 I ran a historical sim from 1920 to 1939 where I edited all the NeL players within the OOTP player editor. I'm thinking of doing it again in 25 but was wondering if I could save my changes to later be imported in the game for other sims. |

It takes some practice, and the fielding side is especially onerous, but it is quite doable.

Sim 2: 1920 Group B
A couple other slight changes. I'll be covering only the candidates previously ranked "Platinum", "Gold" and "Silver" for now, along with one or two others who snuck in; we'll come back to the "Bronze" candidates down the track, along with the "Hybrids" who did get some MLB years after starting in the NeL.
Four is an overcorrection with regard to group size, so I've set the candidates out chronologically and grouped them in the most efficient manner. Some of the 22 groupings will have four, some eight, the rest somewhere in-between the two. And so our second sim - 1920B - will comprise the following eight players (three pitchers; five position players):
Same deal for these guys as 1920A, they'll come in via an Inaugural Draft. |

There is something terribly wrong with triples here and its not just your players.
