Jumping a start is jumping a start. Bogus penalties on Magnussen, too. Stewards failed hard today.

Ah, I didn't realize there were cars that didn't pit (tuned in right after it went back to green). I can't imagine not pitting under SC if you have the opportunity, unless you've already had a pitstop and want to run to the end without stopping again.

Haas' race pace seemed good again. I think they might actually be the best of the backmarkers this year. Then again, they always seem quick early in the year and then never do any development, so we'll see.

Bearman did a hell of a job this weekend. Can't imagine jumping in a car for the first time at a tough track and staying with the pack.

Technically yes. Thing is, the F1 rulebook probably separately defines the words "jump", "a", and "start", which contradict another, and then leaves the whole shebang to the discretion of the least popular steward.

Dunno. I don't approve of pushing other cars into solid walls. Your mileage may vary.

For what it's worth, here's the rulebook on jump starts, which successfully manages to avoid any mention of jump starts:

Quote:
48) INCORRECT STARTING LOCATION
48.1 Any of the penalties under Articles 54.3a), 54.3b), or 54.3c) will be imposed on any driver who
is judged to have:
a) Moved before the start signal is given, such judgement being made by an FIA approved
and supplied transponder
fitted to each car, or;
b) Positioned his car on the starting grid in such a way that the transponder is unable to
detect the moment at which the car first moved from its grid position after the start signal
is given, or;
c) Any part of the contact patch of its front tyres outside of the lines (front and sides) at the
time of the Start signal.
Since even legally blind people could see that Lando moved before the lights went out (me personally, I saw it *live* without replay, but that's because I watch his car rather than the blue ones that drive away unhindered anyway), what must have happened is this: yes, he moved, then stopped again. That transponder thingie however did not register that he moved, and since that is all that matters in paragraph 48.1a, it is not considered a "move before the start signal is given" and does not warrant a penalty. Similarly, the transponder thingie was still able to report that he moved away *after* the actual start, and the stewards have no input in 48.1b, that section also does not apply; and I guess it took them 20 laps to actually check with their zillion cameras for 48.1c then, although those front tires looked helluva bit much at least *on* that line.

So it was a jump start, but no, it was not a jump start.

Btw, is it too obvious I'm a tax accountant?

"Ferrari are so fast here"

"Ferrari really look like they are ahead of Red Bull here"

"Ferrari are bound to be on pole position tomorrow"

Max Verstappen: blows everybody away by almost three tenths

At least Lando is ahead of Ossie and I don't have to see 20 new Youtube videos in my recommendations how "washed" he is. It's F1 Youtube's new cottage industry: pick whoever got beaten by their teammate and the slimmest of margins, then make a 15-minute rabble video without sense and paragraph breaks with the ever same stock footage about absolutely nothing. I guess it pays the bills.

Edit: Penalty for Perez, Lando up to 3rd, squee!

I jumped around screaming at 5:07 AM (the neighbors will remember that) when the blue car went up in smoke, but I can't have no joy, so Mc******* immediately managed to strategize Lando off the podium after that.

Max drops out and somehow the race is the biggest snoozefest in years.

Albon/Hulkenberg should get interesting after Gasly pits.

Edit: Or not.

What is more shocking - that Haas might be the seventh-best car all of a sudden, or that Sauber can't even change a single set of tires correctly?

The blue ribbon is cut! Crank the Italian anthem!

And a nice podium for Lando boy, now sole owner of the record for most podiums without a W (14; move over, Nick Heidfeld!).

One day, one day he'll win one and be renamed W-ando Norris. I hope.

Hours later, I had another nap, then saw Lando considering live on TV having his appendix removed so he can also get that post-surgery W.

Come here, little Lando, let me tell you something about my appendix removal and the raging infection afterwards, and three months I was basically rolled up in bed after that.

Fun fact: the last 22 races have been won by either Dutch Max or Carlos Sainz.

That still sounds less boring than the actual ugly truth.

Points Distribution

If anyone has a second:

I gather that for every race, provided enough racers finish, the top 10 finishers are awarded a total of 102 points. It seems that the 4 through 10 finishers account for 43 of those through fixed quantities (12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 1). The remaining 59 are distributed among the top 3 finishers, but it seems with some variation in the specific assignments (25/26, 18/19, 15/16) providing different potential combinations. What determines the specific triad of assigned points for a given race?

Points are given out like:

1st - 25
2nd - 18
3rd - 15
4th - 12
5th - 10
6th - 8
7th - 6
8th - 4
9th - 2
10th - 1

A bonus point is given for the driver with the fastest lap in the race, but only if he finishes the race in the top 10. If the driver with the fastest lap does not finish at all or outside the top 10, the point is not awarded.

Then there's also the silly sprint races, which give points like this:

1st - 8
2nd - 7
3rd - 6
4th - 5
5th - 4
6th - 3
7th - 2
8th - 1

But there has not been a sprint so far this season; the tomfoolery is only subjected upon us at select events.

Funny how Williams has no budget, no spare parts, no spare chassis, and they have a major wreck per weekend on average, and after Ricciardo successfully filed for benefits for blindness by polishing Albon off the road, they're up to two wrecks at Suzuka, and "Danger Boy" Sargeant is still in the race.

Lando needs to get on this podium. And Haas needs to figure out qualifying, because they're faster in the race again relative to the cars the outqualified them.

I want somebody from that clownshoes Mc***** pitwall to explain to me why he had to pit with Charles with what, 28 laps to go? Lando totally could have beaten one, if not both Ferraris.

Sainz is 100% against LeClerc so far this season. I love it.

And Sargeant needs to be shown the door.

Hey, Logi Bear didn't crash in this particular race...!

Just went straight in a corner, then reversed back onto the track without checking his mirrors first

The TRUE question is, when is Mazespin going to be ALLOWED to return??? I can't even call him the worst F1 racer of all time - there was this Japanese guy who'd never competed above the Japanese Formula racing league who competed in 4 contests before having his license revoked - so he's just a "lovable" loser, and by "lovable" I mean he's a lolcow.
