Will Baseball Cards ever get any new attention?

Just curious, with collecting being on another upswing, might be a good time to revamp the baseball card system.

Simply... better templating and support for more fonts and angled text.

Use the 3D models as templates for action photos.

More set creation options, allow for custom subsets and inserts, maybe even have a rudimentary "price guide" tracking the values of the generated cards.

This game is already so full of fun immersion stuff, I can see this being a nice addition!

I’d love some action pose options as well.

He's not talking about PT. Baseball cards have been an OOTP feature long before that mode which exploits gambling addicts was ever a thought.

The PT cards are generic, although if I'm being honest I'd probably take the option for generics over just having a portrait of a guy wearing his team's hat sometimes.

Conversely, how hard would it be to fashion a number of poses, using the poses used in PT as a guideline, and then graft the player model and uniform skins over those? I realize they might look clunky at first but I really think this is a place where there could be a lot of neat usage, for historical, fictional, and modern day games.

Cards in PT are varied and fun.

Cards in OOTP? ugh.

Have the game release special editions, legends, unsung heroes and so forth during the season. Let players collect them by doing stuff in game like 'steal a base', or 'modify a batting order' or something. Doesn't have to be (nor should it be) PT-like in terms of 'value' or whatever, just make the cards interesting, and have different sets available and a way, and reason to collect them.

Edit: just wanted to point out that baseball cards are as much a part of the game as blockbuster trades. They need some love. Desperately.

Sad for me? What makes you think I care about digital cards for my fake players?

No reason to degrade those that would like to see better baseball cards. We all have parts of the game we love and parts we care less about - but it's the accumulation of all those interests that ultimately makes the game great.

A few things I'd like to see if the team ever took on a revamp of the baseball card design; (1) higher resolution, (2) action shots (and they only need to overlay uniforms - not necessarily faces), and (3) more personalized HOF card backs.

I personally would love to see upgraded baseball cards. I would assume it's not too hard to add to the game? I could easily make a baseball card generator with 4 hours, GIMP, R, and NanDeck that's better than what's in the game. But it's possible that interfacing with the statistical database in the game is difficult, I don't know about the internal architecture, I'm not a dev, just someone with semi-adequate scripting skills.

I don't think that's the side of baseball cards that people want to see updated. You can make your own cards using XML and indeed people have created basically the entire history of Topps cards to use. The backs are reeeeeeeeeally low res and that could be improved but the numbers on the back are there.

The issue, at least to me, is that the images on the front are always a portrait, which is probably about the least-used image in real life, whereas in PT there are generic pictures but not of guys posing (which, even a guy posing with a bat, or a pitcher staring down a batter would be improvements).

PT actually got some awesome player photos for certain cards last yeah. Jackie Robinson, Lou Gehrig, Roberto Clemente, Fingers, Bench, Brett, the probably about 30 or so guys. There looked awesome, and the historical card art is/was so great looking.

That's fair. To be honest, I don't really use them anymore, because they killed int'l leagues, which forces me to use the PSUcolonel mod, in which facegen is totally broken.
