I don’t see how they can operate for much longer. The NBA and NHL reached agreements that only extend to the end of this current season.

MLB will begin before those seasons end.
March will be a very interesting month to see they end up showing those games.

1. Let them die.

2. MLB takes over all the personnel that produced and broadcast the games from the teams affected (though some posts may be redundant, I am sure they can work out buyouts) and puts them exclusively on MLB.tv. You all have accountants to figure out what the teams affected will receive in compensation.

3. Make a special offer to people this spring, like X% off for the full-season subscription. In any case, this will be cheaper than whatever cable package you currently are bled for.

4. Uncle Steve paid enough luxury tax to foot the bill for this.

5. Local blackouts will OBVIOUSLY be over for ALL teams on MLB.tv.

6. ALL games are on MLB.tv. **** exclusivity deals for the single Wednesday day game on Brothel TV or whatever other ****** service I have never heard of before.

7. In the mid-term future, roll MLB.tv and MLB Network into one for a very attractive package that can keep a guy entertained for the entire weekend until his head looks like a baseball. (That one is from my list of unfulfilled christmas wishes)

Yes, this will also cost Big Corporate a billion bucks.

Per year.

Oh no.

How terrible.

The poor boo-boos.

In my defense, I just woke up and hope's still alive! Can't last much longer. 3, 2, ...

Oh, sure. I totally want to only be able to see sports on my phone. Heaven forfend that over-the-air and cable/satellite should exist, let's make everyone a prisoner of a-la-carte streaming.

Screw that.

And it shouldn't come to that. MLB is willing to cut over-the-air rights fees in exchange for streaming rights. Sinclair is willing to buy the TV rights back in exchange for Diamond dropping its lawsuit.

I may be done with "baseball", but I still want to be able to see my LA Kings and Clippers the same way I've been doing since I moved to Los Angeles back before the Soviet Union fell. On a TV, with everything else I watch, one monthly bill, period. If y'all wanna watch TV on your keychain or whatever, and juggle 62 individual subscriptions, that's your lookout. Don't mess with my paradigm, tyvm.

I can watch from the MLB app or NBA app or any other leagues app on my TV...

Usually in 4K. At the very least in 1080p

I mean sure, phone and tablet watching is an option. But all of these leagues can easily be added to my TV as well.

I also remember people complaining for 40 years that they were being forced to pay for crap they never watched on cable and now that that system is dying of course we’re getting complaints that people *want* to be forced to pay for crap they never watch…

I imagine the number of Blue Jays games available only on Apple will increase. Their broadcasts are really lousy.

Local blackoutsÂ…

You’re a funny guy, Westheim. (Awaiting Joe Pesci meme in response)

The Tigers play in Anaheim, I get locally blacked out. I am 251 miles from Detroit. If I order a pizza from Tigers ownership (Little Caesar’s ) I can’t even get local delivery from 4 miles away. I can see the Lions, the Redwings, and (but why?)the Pistons…but not the Tigers. Yes, mlb imho is stupid enough to locally blackout their own broadcast. They do it now.

That’s some Major League (8 letter inappropriate word starting with B).

People in Vancouver are blacked out from Blue Jays games three time zones away, which is why that crap has to die.

The days of me watching all the Cardinals games are long gone. Apple TV, Peacock, Bally, and others all have a piece of the pie.

It is getting to the point where I will watch something else, and just tune in on the radio.

While it's foolish to assume there is no overlap between those two groups of "people", it also seems unwise to feel there is 100% overlap. I would rather have a panoply of channels that may be of use (I would not have imagined WE becoming my primary source for Law & Order, or FUSE as the new home of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, to cite two favorites) than cut myself adrift and have to pay for anything that catches my whim.

(And I know that there are wonderful little add-ons that help my TV to spy on me, but aside from that issue, I would rather not have to buy new equipment, much less need to install it. [Age-related issues make getting up from the floor/hands and knees more of a chore than I prefer.] My personal preferences, but still.)

JMO.

I have no idea how old your TV is. But a pretty vast majority of TVs from I would say 2010 and forward are 'smart TVs' and have the ability to install apps on them.

But if you do not watch the sports anyways...
Then the discussion is pretty moot

I'm 37 but I have no problem to write posts making it look like I'm 73. It's one of my easier tricks.

Blacked out by whom? And that's hardly a local telecast.

The issue is that Clippers fans in Van Nuys are currently able to watch their local team on Bally Sports SoCal, just by paying their monthly cable bill. Without buying NBA League Pass. You seem to want to take that away, just so MLB.tv can settle some weird blackout rule that Extra Innings never had, during the 20+ years I paid to see Asstros games. (And the one season they gave me for free.)

This seems close to "using a nuke to kill a housefly" territory, unless I am seriously misunderstanding you.

I will be 40 (yikes) this June. I think we are on the younger side a good 15 years or so

But what you lack in physical years, you more than make up for in spirit!

I watch plenty of sports, just not Manfred-ball. If you are not talking about additional equipment like Swerve or Firestick or whatever [/fake names], that is different. But it is my understanding that streaming your Computer to your TV without such is not possible, and that making your TV "smart" enables espionage, just as with any other "smart" device.

(Not that I am doing anything particularly interesting here. But I would still rather not have the NSA spying on my wandering around with my balls hanging out while I go to get fresh clothes. At least not until they buy me dinner. JMO.)

Hell, they blackout spring training games. You know, that time of year when they might want to be developing interest in the upcoming season. IE young prospects getting some exposure along with players that have switched teams etc.

Good news for us Cubs fans is Marquee Network can now be bought as a standalone for $20 per month. With nothing else going on I plan on putting my youtubetv on hold and turning a profit on the upcoming season.

local blackouts are at the team's discretion, not the MLB's. RSNs and the like sometimes pay out the nose for exclusive local broadcast rights unfortunately
