They gave Adam Wainwright 101 innings of 8.78 ERA. Cards didn't win many of those starts.

They play the Mets now. Their future is bright.

I'll still take the Mariners or the Astros.

Wow, I can't wait to see how Jake does against his old…oh, never mind.

(I still would rather have paid him than Verlander, though.)

I'm just saying, Zack.

When the Royals can make the case that you're holding them down…

There've been winning starters with ERA's like those before.

Of course their teams could usually hit their way out of a pothole.

It's a team effort, is what I'm saying. Everybody's chipping in.

I looked at his Ks and walks and was like "hey, that's not so bad", then I remembered I was looking at 2023 and not 1983 and yeah, 6 Ks/9 is "you can't miss bats anymore" territory...

Meanwhile, I was about to announce the final demise of Noah Syndergaard, DFA'd by the Guardians earlier this week, when I saw that he just celebrated his 31st birthday yesterday! (Some birthday present.) He is too young to be too old for baseball.

The past couple of years have not been kind to him, though. Perhaps all the bouncing around: four teams in two seasons, perhaps a fifth for somebody who needs a starter for the final month.

EDIT: Or maybe he has never fully recovered from his TJ surgery in 2020, missing that season and all but a couple of games in late September 2021. Interesting tidbit from Wikipedia about his surgery during the height of the pandemic:

Quote:
Syndergaard's decision to undergo an elbow repair surgery during a time when many doctors were canceling elective surgeries and conserving hospital resources for the pandemic was met with some controversy, and the hospital performing the surgery released a statement attesting that they had deemed Syndergaard's procedure to be essential. Syndergaard's teammate Pete Alonso similarly justified the decision, saying, "No athlete wants to go through a serious surgery and grueling recovery process. This surgery is done when it is absolutely necessary for their arm."
Was his condition life-threatening? No. Was his procedure necessary for his livelihood? Yes.

Meanwhile, surprised that this hasn't gotten brought up here but the Angels just waived everybody yesterday:

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/...n-waivers.html

The dumb move in retrospect of course was making all these trades in the first place. Still, if this happened in OOTP people would be complaining to hell and back about the stupid AI...

Pow! Pardon, but positively a passel of players to peremptorily pull the plug upon. Punting pays perhaps.

White Sox Fire Ken Williams, Rick Hahn.

Biggest in-season party on the South Side since Disco Demolition Night? Perhaps. Whole bunch of rounds got bought in a whole bunch of bars, I'd guess.

Forsooth. Fortunately, I find no forum fiat forbidding this fun foolery. Just foul fusillades from frumpish fops.

[Forum foderator . . . I mean, moderator, I will stop now. How about those Mets and Yankees, eh? Talk about foolhardy futility!]
