We don't need a reminder that they are "Games", but that heading is there because for (I assume?) most leagues, it will break down by subleague into (for example) "American League Games" in one column and "National League Games" in the other.

I don’t want to insult anybody by saying this is trivial, because to each his or her own, and UI is obviously primary to some of you. Let’s just say that I either don’t have these display issues, or never noticed them in the heat of battle. Another point of view, I suppose you’d say. Mrs. Pelican is smiling knowingly at my failure to notice things right in front of me.

I find it amusing that game devs and companies feel they need to “freshen” the UI every 5 years or so. Just stick to what is simple and works imo.

Get used to it buddy, the glory days of OOTP are over. They sold-out, it will no longer be the OOTP we loved.

It's a lazy attempt to make the user feel like they're having a new experience. I hate when websites do it too, it adds nothing for those of us with a functional, aware brain.

Beyond this, honestly the issue is that OOTP has kind of moved on from the resolutions of these peoples’ monitors and this is now OOTP’s fault, apparently.

OOTP24 is definitely by far the worst release. Just started a new live start on largely default settings. First offseason comes and we're averaging 13 trades per day. Yet even though each AI team is making so many trades, I only get a trade OFFER once every few days. So if I turned down the trade frequency below defaults (which i shouldn't have to do in the first place!!!) then I'd get basically zero offers. This game is completely busted out of the box, and you need to spend forever tinkering with settings to get it back to where the OOTP21 defaults were.

Information presentation and navigation are ... trivial? Ok, but can you demonstrate how so?

OOTP has "moved on" from certain screen resolutions? I'm at 1920 x 1080. This is still pretty common, especially for laptops which I'd say is the most common device OOTP gets viewed on.

Re ongoing "UI overhauls" yes, one of the first things I noticed about being a serial OOTP purchaser was the proclivity towards useless changes to UI while attempts at navigation and information display remained amateurish or at least prototype-ish. And so for me the nerve of OOTP expanding personnel into 3D was not so much at the cost of game engine development (this is the argument repeated ad nauseum by Markus et al) but at the cost of not updating the visual and navigation. OOTP deserves all the heat it gets.

No you’re not, dude. You’re playing with Windows making the resolution 25% lower, essentially. If you play at 100% instead of 125% then yes, then you’re on 1920x1080.

dola,

That said, I *think* when you play the game in full-screen, non-windowed mode, all the Windows settings you set are ignored. Try that, maybe? Perhaps we're both tilting at windmills here...

Of course, but the feature is there for a reason. It's actually recommended (literally - it appears in the options tab as '125% (recommended)' ). So the setting is hardly as esoteric as you seem to be suggesting. All my other software look fine at these settings.

If your other software is set to play at like 1600x900 or whatever it is, that may be. I also think Windows itself does some screwy stuff where it keeps font sizes larger but may not touch other UI elements if it’s not looking at HTML or some other Windows-approved element. Did you try putting the game into fullscreen mode?

Again, not meaning to step on toes here. But if I could continue to play the game without interruption or difficulty (or even noticing changes beyond, oh, that’s different), how is that an integral part of the game? I haven’t had any difficulty navigating the site. Again, I haven’t noticed any difference. To me, that “demonstrates” that these superficial changes are not game-changers.

I agree that changing the colors and fonts and the UI seems like a waste of resources by developers, as opposed to tinkering with the game engine. I guess that’s why UI and presentation seems “trivial” to me by comparison. I assumed (probably wrongly) that the annual tweak or refresh was not a heavy lift, and a simple way to differentiate versions. Nothing more.

I’m not one to take a perceived flaw, and then draw broad conclusions about the company’s commitment and integrity. That seems like a stretch to me, to take one issue and extrapolate to the whole platform. But that’s just me. I am much more trees than forest. The game still does what I want or need, with a great deal of flexibility to try new options, and things that are broken get fixed. The overall trend in my four years has been improved play and cool new features (plus a lot of stuff like online gaming that is completely irrelevant to me, but does not take away from my experience). YMMV.
