How's your top F2P or PT+ team doing?
I'm curious how your top F2P team is doing. Or PT+ but you don't spend money on additional points outside of that.
As I said on another thread, I'm not doing tourneys or anything extra this year other than the live updates. After the last update, I was able to complete the BAL missions, the Jackie Robinson missions, and grab Alex Rodriguez for SS. My pitching really needs a lot of work, but I'm not unhappy with the lineup. Pitching ![]() Lineup ![]() |

I have four teams total. My Number One has been in Diamond for the last eleven weeks, generally winning between 78 and 88 games. Best season was 91 wins two weeks ago. I'm clearly falling behind in the pitching race, though. The team is third in runs scored but has coughed up just as many runs on the other side. I just acquired Topps Blyleven, so that should help. Looking to close out the Topps series and also get Scherzer. Those two, combined with the usual suspects (Santana, Roberts, Lolich) should at least keep me competitive if not dominant.
Two of my other three teams are in first place in SIlver League and play-off bound. The second of them pulled in about 100,000 on the recent live spec, and I was able to complete Negro League 1 and add Stearnes, Wells, and Rube Foster. We'll see what happens tomorrow. Final team is the one from my New Team Primer thread. They are having the usual easy time in Stone League, 123-28. The second-best team in this league is using a lot of live cards, but he's using the right ones and could give me some trouble in the play-offs. Only cringe-worthy note on his roster is Hubie Brooks at shortstop. My God, that defense is terrible! |

Spent 3 weeks in Diamond, hitting just shy of .500 once. Life is still weighing on my activity. Also a pair in Gold doing well.

My team is an embarrassment. Every time I get a good card, I just want to sell it, like the buy order I filled for Bert Blyleven the other day.
I reached gold in good order in 2027 then up to diamond then down to silver then up to diamond and for 2039 back to silver. |

PT+ team (left) has been in Diamond for 12 of the last 13 weeks after starting in Silver and moving up in the early cycle. F2P team (right) is in Iron this week after winning the Stone WS. This team was on autopilot from nothing but starter packs until 3 weeks ago.

Main team is 100% F2P, no +. Got to diamond during the first few weeks, but has become an average in silver/atrocious in gold team. Now doing an all Future Legend theme. No championships, lost in 7 in the silver WS on Sunday because Griff McGarry imploded late in game 7. This account has not won a league title since PT21, and I'm skeptical about that changing at this point.
They are also in the middle of their longest non-live perfect drought, having gone 2 months without one and over a month without a card worth selling for a good chunk of points. There is no hope of advancement or remaining competitive at gold without me getting a good pull to sell off. Without that I'm simply wasting my time even checking in on things because nothing is going to change. I can't win, I don't have any hope of upward movement. I'm pretty much checked out...and before anyone says "oh just be happy in the lower levels", screw that nonsense. Last edited by Magus978; 07-18-2023 at 02:41 PM. |

Week 17; my team's are pretty much burned out.
Barons (F2P & PT+); made it to Diamond in Week 6 but was back to Gold by Week 10 - currently in Silver for last 3 weeks. 5 winning seasons, 4 playoff appearances, lost all of them. After some early lucky pulls and the help of PT+, things have gone south - only improvement I'm gotten are what I could buy in the Card Shop, and those have only prevented me from falling even lower. Team consists of 11 Perfects and 15 Diamonds. Anyone better is too expensive to consider. Commodores (F2P); Started in SIlver with some lucky packs, mostly been in Bronze (10 seasons) = currently in Iron. 8 winning seasons, 6 playoff appearance3, won 1 in Iron. Team consists of 6 Perfects and 20 Diamonds. Aeros (F2P); This team is still in Gold and proves a point = You do not need PT+ to be better than those that don't have it. This team has simply been luckier on the pack pulls it did get. Team has seen Diamond twice, Gold 12 times, and Silver three times - currently in Gold. Team consists of 9 Perfects, 16 Diamonds, and 1 Gold. 5 winning seasons, appeared in 4 playoffs, lost all of them. In summary, and as I have stated before, the game is good until the All-Star game for F2P players that have limited time. At that point, the only event that's going to change your fortunes is to land a Top 5% card which you can either sell or use. If you are still playing, keep an eye on your missions too... sometimes a random pack card will earn you a reward that just might pay off.

Only running one team, they made it to diamond once and got slapped senseless. Since then, a few weeks in gold then a drop to silver for a week and now in bronze where they might be minimally competitive. (FTP tourneys, packs & bought cards, no time for twitch)

Update on my teams:
Number One San Diego Sharks (FTP/PT+) completed the Topps series, adding Scherzer and Blyleven to the rotation, bumping Wehring and Foster to the pen, and replacing Wells with Yount at shortstop. Currently in first place at Diamond level, 28-16. Number Two Last Chance Texaco are in their seventh week of play, with five championships in the first six weeks. First place at Gold level, 26-18. On autopilot since completing Negro League 1 last week, saving my points and card packs for the moment. Number Three Petrograd Soviet (the team everybody loves to hate) are in their ninth season of play, stuck in Silver for the third week after winning four championships on the way up. First place at 29-16 but need some improvements, particularly on the pitching staff. Averaging 8.5 runs per game smooths over a lot of problems, but this can't last. Number Four Wherever Whatevers are in their third week, repeating Stone level after a shocking first-round playoff loss last week. Currently in first place with a 33-11 record. Shortstop (Perfect) George Davis is going bonkers, hitting .396/.489/.753 and tracking for a 16-WAR season. Looking to upgrade at corner outfield and move on from Rennie Stennett at second base. Currently running a roster of five Perfects, seventeen Diamonds, and four Golds. |

Forgot to even mention how the team was doing, lol. It's been a waiting game until the last update gave me a million PP to work with. I was in gold for a while with a few playoff appearances (and wildcard exits) after I completed all the LIVE missions.
![]() You might notice that 57-105 year right before I won a 117 games in silver - funny story - I thought the update was Monday, July 3rd, so that Friday, I sold off all of my team (the Live mission rewards mostly) that was I going to replace after I completed the BAL missions w/ the update PP - to buy more LIVE cars for the update, of course. But then on the 3rd, I realized the update was pushed back a week ![]() So I was fielding a very bad team that week, but not on purpose, lol. I assume I'll be able to reach diamond this week and grab that 50K reward. |

I'm not burned out. I have not yet begun to fight.
Something always happens in this game to wipe out any frustration. In this case, winning 1st place in the weekly standings for bronze daily tournaments, followed by advancing to the semifinals and winning Jerry Reuss for the Cleveland Locomotives. This team is hanging on in Gold League so far with 17 diamonds, 8 golds, and an iron. I am also happy to reach this level without going the live missions route. |

Thanks! First hurdle is to make the playoffs. I have no expectations of performing well in perfect so anything is a plus |

This is my first year trying out OOTP/PT (PT+ only) and although there are some fun aspects of it, I definitely see where HRBaker is coming from in regards to the F2P fun dropping off around the All-Star break.
I started the 2nd week the game was out and I had a blast working my way up from Rookie to Diamond. During that time, the combination of earning PP through gameplay and promotions along with the value of selling cards I no longer needed allowed me to keep improving my team. In between seasons during that stretch I had fun researching the season end stats after exporting them to a spreadsheet, planning my next players to procure. After I was in Diamond though I felt like a lot of that fun stopped. I was able to stay in Diamond for several seasons, although I was mostly sub .500 excluding one season where I got hot at the end and made it to the 2nd round of the playoffs. I can't put my finger on it, but my best guess is just the cost of improving my team was far too much to attain with PT+ only and no more promotion money, combined with the quickly depreciating value of my players on the market I felt the wear and tear of keeping up on the "treadmill" was just too much. It got to the point where I was about to quit and move on to my backlog of other games. As a last resort I wanted to try one more thing, so back in the 2034 season I made the decision to convert my lineup into a Cubs theme team (batters only, pitchers still open to anyone). As expected after a couple seasons I got regulated to Gold, but I still have been very competitive there over the last few seasons and find myself gaining some of that lost fun back managing some of my favorite players rather than trying to milk every last ounce of value out of my PP count. Also, I find it neat to be using players no one else in the league does. We will see how long the fun lasts going with a theme team, but at least it's giving a little spark. I do have to say though, that paying $40 for a game along with the PT+ monthly payment and then being subjected to a P2W business model does rub me the wrong way.

-Waffletown Syrups (PT+ and twitch drops) - 11 times reaching post season; two championships (Iron / Silver). Solid Gold tier team, struggles at Diamond (one post season appearance at Diamond tier in 3 runs)
-Foulmouthed Hypnotizing Chickens (F2P) - 9 times reaching post season; no championships; currently on a Silver-to-Gold-and-back-again merry go round. |
