Just Bought OOTP24: Initial Impressions

Is OOTP24 a stable game presently.

I let the AI runs the league... do not get involved in the management... just skim the regular season, then I play out the playoffs in one-pitch mode using the 3D animation and recap my league on the Dynasty Forum.

Just my initial impression... I really like the uncluttered look of the screens... they got rid of all the vague background images... I think it is much improved visually.
Love its simplicity... I don't fancy "fancy" graphics... thank y'all for getting rid of the graphics clutter.

Just scanned the game screens quickly.... haven't done anything else.
Will first updated my new logos, jerseys and caps... then start spring training games.

Hope the game doesn't have any major glitches... my league had been running since 2007... hope it will run smoothly like OOTP22... I skipped playing OOTP23... using I do not convert my league until December when the last patch comes out.

I am going to use OOTP24 for the currrent season if you guys say it is stable.

Much appreciate your help.

Vague background images? Do you mean Semi-Transparent background?

Still there, still an option like it has been for several versions.

Is the game stable? You'll get lots of opinions. My suggestion, make a copy of your league and run a season or two with that and see if "you're" happy.

Only you know exactly how you like to play the game.

Bluenoser, thank you for your quick response.
Always appreciate your help. and advice.

Never knew there was an option to get rid of the background images.

Where is it located?

Right now the background images are not there... I would like to keep it plain and simple and uncluttered.

Still would like to know where the option is located.

I would say that 24 is now stable and very playable. It has evolved through a number of adjustments and corrections and fixes through patches. I started playing early, brought my sims over months ago, and things have settled down nicely. Some of the improvements are subtle, others, like graphics, can be stunning.

One thing that I find annoying is that the home leaderboards in OOTP24 only show 4 categories each for batting and pitching whereas OOTP23 and earlier displayed 5. Is that what everyone else is seeing or is there a setting that I need to adjust on my copy of OOTP or computer?

Likely has to do with your screen resolution.

Thanks, Bluenoser.

If that's the case, them something obviously changed in OOTP as I have been using the same resolution (1920x1080) for the past 7 years.

I didn't realize I would have to get a larger monitor. Now I have an excuse, I guess.

May I ask what size monitor/resolution size you are using, Bluenoser? IIRC, there is an older thread around here where there was a discussion on what various setups OOTP players were using.

I have a 27" Monitor using 2560 x 1440 resolution.

Here's a thread from 23 that discusses UWM's - https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...a+Wide+Monitor

Make a backup before you hit that first offseason. The AI still likes to trade 1/3 of the league during that first winter.
If you have a long running league, that may be a bit off putting.

Thanks for the reply, Pelican.

I'm really looking forward to the OOTP24 3D animations... many have said that it is much improved over the OOTP22 I have been playing... I only looked at few MLB games to watch the animation in OOTP23 last year... it was better and smoother than OOTP22, but still had the weird foul flies around the infield that bother me.

Hope they have fixed them.

Keep us updated, Eugene. I've been playing OOTP since at least OOTP5 and I am waiting to make the transition from 23 to 24. I have a league I care a lot about and I've been a bit spooked by the comments about wonky trade AI etc. I'm moving towards the postseason and would like to make the transition to 24 in the off season.

I just played out the entire playoffs in my league and I saw only occasional foul fly balls, I'm sure right around the league average. One thing I do keep seeing is that occasionally a play is made where the ball and the fielder are shifted to the right by around 30 degrees, so, like a ground ball to 2nd becomes a weirdo play where the 2nd baseman catches it in the hole to left field, etc. That's entirely cosmetic and even when I do a replay everything is back where it's supposed to be. It's also pretty rare IME, which is why I haven't put together a bug for it.

highandoutside... sorry, I can't help you with the GM part of the game... I don't enjoy the business of baseball... I just let the AI handle everything.

Maybe some of the others could help you out in that area of the game.

Thanks, Syd... always appreciate your knowledge and observations of the game... 3D animation is really my thing in OOTP... I have played about 3 or 4 games out in OOTP24 and have not seen any weird flight of infield flies so far... my right fielder has stopped running through walls for me, too.

I play out all of my games in one of my small leagues... I will begin the regular season soon, so I should get a good idea of the improvements in the 3D animation.

I really like the look of the game on the game screens... it really is a visual masterpiece.... really like the option to remove all the background graphics (transparencies) that I always thought just cluttered up the screen and made it hard to read sometimes... I love it when it just plain and simple.

For me 24 has been very stable, far fewer problems than 23. Overall many small improvements nothing dramatic.
3D Animations are better every year, I've seen two rundowns this week!
I have also enjoyed the Super Stats Replays, fun to watch.
