Unwanted Real Players in Fictional League

I am messing around setting up a fictional league that starts in 1980. Fictional teams, fictional leagues, fictional structure.

I have use real historical rookies unchecked. Use random rookies is unchecked. In fact, all of the historical progression settings are unchecked.

A couple of years into the league (I'm still building it and running tests), it starts to feed real players into the league. At first, I thought, "cool, a fictional player named Daryl Strawberry," but then I noticed a bunch more early 80s real players.

When you pull up those players, they are indeed the real players with real stats. They have all entered the league as free agent signings. None (that I have found) have come in through the draft.

Is there some double-secret setting somewhere that I have missed? Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.

Hate to say it but you missed checking a box somewhere. I’ve done fictional leagues for years and from the game’s standpoint it’s “easier” inasmuch as it just generates random players instead of curating them from a database. It’s probably way in the past now but do you remember seeing the game stop for a bit while it’s generating players from a database? Because whenever that’s happening, that’s where it’s doing it…

Did you use the historical wizard to create the league? By chance did you select the option for historical minors?

No...fictional all the way. Also went straight into Advanced Setup, made no use of any wizard at all.

Syd, thanks for the reply. I agree that I missed a checkbox along the way. Any idea what that checkbox might be? Like you, I've run many, many fictional leagues over the years. It's my preferred style of play. I've never seen anything like this (obviously, I've had some mistakes over the years, but I've always been able to find my mistake - not this time). I can't speak to the loading pause that you mention, I'll look out for it.

All of the historical player boxes are unchecked. No real players came into the inaugural draft. No real player has come in through the draft...only through free agent signings, which is also weird, as I have no international complex or independent league free agents. I just don't see a setting that is causing it.
