Question about player development without Coaching System
It is explained that without the Coaching System, players develop as if they had "average" coaches.
By the way, AI controlled teams are set up to hire good coaches. So the average rating of the actual coaches should be Good or Decent. Now, does the aforementioned "average" mean actual Good or Decent? Or is it literally the yellow Average? If the latter is true, then turning off the Coaching System will cause players to grow smaller, decline faster, and get injured more often. I can no longer turn off the Coaching System. I am sorry to bother you developers, but I would appreciate it if you could tell me what you intended by the word "average". |

I think you are reading too much into it. I believe that it just means they will develop equally with no additional factors from coaching.

Average = average. Not particularly good at anything, not particularly bad at anything. Just average at all abilities.

Here is a league where all teams hire excellent/good/decent trainers and another league where no trainers exist.
Do players in these two leagues have equal injury probabilities? I don't think so. |

I have almost never played with coaches since OOTP5 and it doesn't make an appreciable difference, it's really about immersion and being able to hire coaches that were former players.

My guess is that the quality of coaches makes only a marginal difference at best. i admit that’s strictly anecdotal and not the product of testing. Where I labored to hire the best minor league staff, for development, I did not see any striking differences. Even with better scouts and more resources devoted to scouting. Maybe I didn’t sim enough seasons to see the long-term effects?
And yeah, I have “retired” older players - guys I liked - and have immediately hired them as coaches, with good results. Remember, there is a world of difference between “inexperienced” and “poor”. Guys with no coaching or managing history have a chance of being very good, right off the bat. Cool to experiment.

If it works like league totals where there are x number of injuries to be distributed then yes the injury rate would be the same. But we don't know.
