Historical League starting in 1871 easy to do?
I was just wondering if it was yet easy to start a league in 1871 and have it easily do all the weird scheduling where not all teams played the same number of games and it auto added and dropped teams accurately. I believe the game does this very accurately if you start in 1901 but then you have to import real life stats from before that.
Basically I want to have a world with fully simulated stats and OOTP driven player development, but under realistic conditions instead of every team playing more games than they actually did leading to inflated stats pre-1901. |

Just so you know (not sure if you do or not), pre-1901 historical in OOTP does not follow real life, whereas from 1901 on, it does. OOTP's early minors start out pretty realistic (and I think the schedules for the first few years are also pretty realistic) but then from there it takes some liberties to keep things a bit more stable (than real life), so that there's always two leagues, and much more "franchise continuity" that didn't actually exist in real life.
For an idea of how the pre-1901 OOTP teams evolve, check out this thread - https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...d.php?t=344634 - specifically post #4... Hope that helps

I would say that if you want team movement like it really happened you will need to wait or use ootp23.
Even then you would have to manually do some things to get it to work. Its possible to get rookies to import to correct teams with ootp23 but with 24 it seems like they are working on some changes in the database as far as i understand it. |

The hard part is, you’ll have to manually put every player on every team. There aren’t, as you might imagine, a lot in terms of lineups from that period so all that’s going to be pure guesswork. Especially from 1871 to 1875, when the governing body was an association of teams and players rather than a top-down league like we have today, players jumped around a lot and as you might also have guessed, we don’t have super great records on transactions. It evens out a bit from 1876 on but you’ll still have to worry about the yearly changes in team alignment let alone where players are. The game is really meant to be played from 1901 onwards tbh. You can definitely start before then - a preferred start for me, actually is 1893, which is the year after the Players’ League and the American Association went belly up, with a 12 team National League and, should you want to dive this deep, an 8 team Western League who decided to rename themselves the American League 8 years later and compete. There’s still a ton of stuff to handle IME.

I appreciate everyone’s feedback. I’m very much okay with players starting off on the wrong teams. I just mainly am interested in having historical players on historical teams playing the correct number of games. I even intend to let the OOTP development engine determine how they progress. I basically want the stats to look right for records and what not even if they are different players who get those stats. I’ll look into finding those schedules and trying to learn how to do that. Thanks again everyone

Suggestion: Run a test with your basic configuration idea. Don't spend any time on facegen/pictures, accurate 3D stadiums, uniforms & logos... that sort of thing. IOW, don't immerse yourself. Just run a test from, say 1871 thru 1900, and then look at some stats & so forth and make sure things are in the ballpark of the kind of game you'd like to see. If so, you're all set. If not, you can tweak and/or test more... And/or come back here and ask more questions
Good luck! |
