My earlier post explained that issue

What do you mean? You can play multiple games at once in steam,

I've never bought via Steam. Always stand alone for my Mac, works great. I've never had trouble installing patches or mods either.

I just opened Football Manager, OOTP, and EUIV to check these and could run all 3 at the same time. Which I already knew would work.

I've bought direct since 2007. For 24, I'll buy through steam as I'm moving from Win to Linux. This will (I believe) allow me to run on Windows until fully transitioning over to Linux, where I can reinstall it there.

Sell a direct version where I can do the same thing and I'd do that. I have no loyalty to Steam and am not a "gamer" so I only have two titles from there, ESail and War Thunder, because that's the only way to get those.

I don't know if that is a setting or whether there are other limitations but that is not true for me. I even just tested it right now by starting three small games on my PC simultaneously.

I remembered this being the case also and had not tried in what must have been many years... but I can validate it worked just fine. I was able to open multiple versions of OOTP at the same time using steam on a single PC with no changes to settings.

Well, for some of us it is. I've never been able to get it to work, even with tutorials. I may go with steam this time, for that reason.

I remember this because they are the only company to ever be hacked on the internet.

The safest way to go is to not have a computer, but if you do, for God's sake, don't put it online. It's not safe. This is only the "safest" way but not foolproof. Even without a connection your information is still "out there".

I could not agree more. Is there a bank out there that has NOT had it's servers breached in the last 10 years?

I buy the standalone version since OOTP23 for one reason: I can run OOTP in the background while I'm playing Steam games on another PC or a cloud streaming service, which is not possible if OOTP is running the same time on another PC (Steam)

Steam is easier to ask for a refund. Here I'm not sure who to contact, still I'm trying.

How is manuel patching/update cumbersome? You download, install and delete the file if you want or save them for a just in case issue. The whole precedure takes minutes at worst, but hey if you prefer other way great for you. Happy OOTPing bro

Steam patches d'load faster and are like a traditional patch, IE only the files that changed are in the package. Stand alone patches are the whole .exe. One thing that means for the Fast Springs version is you have to backup and restore many of your mods where Steam will leave them untouched.

Before going to Steam my process for patching..
1. copy all folders that have mods to a separate location
2. d'load and run patch
3. move all mods back into my game
4. now ready to play
5. UNLESS I somehow missed backing up any of my mods..
6. In that case find the mod file, unzip, and put back into the proper folders
7. ready to play, I think?

Steam..
1. watch OOTP auto update
2. ready to play

Nothing to do with patches but the Steam Workshop also d'loads and installs the mods you select in seconds. Everything in it's place and working, no muss/ no fuss. Of course the mod maker has to place their mod in the workshop for that to work. So far the major ones have been there every year I have purchased the Steam version.

The price for easier patching along with the mods? I don't get the game three days early. That is not a small price to pay either. I am currently sitting here thinking maybe I should just get v24 today. But I have held out the last two years and believe I will make it though 'til Friday again this year.

You do have to remember which drive you originally saved under as well as which directory if you messed around with that. I'm pretty sure there's a way to detect that info but for whatever reason OOTP hasn't implemented it. PROBABLY PERFECT TEAM'S FAULT

Honestly Fastspring vs Steam is six of one, half a dozen of the other for me. I like Steam's Workshop feature and would love using that for OOTP but on the other hand I like browsing the fora here for mods as well.

Steam all the way. Workshop integration is wonderful, patching is excellent. I have over 2300 games in my Steam library and never had any issues.
