PBABIP Potential?

Trying to understand how PBABIP works in the different formats of the game. Looking at an MLB standard league, some pitchers have a PBABIP rating in the editor. Others are at zero. I can't discern at a glance why some do and some don't without being able to export the hidden rating (i.e. if it's a certain career IP needed before they need to confidently apply a specific PBABIP rating)?

In the fictional league I created, I couldn't find any with a PBABIP rating. So assuming this won't affect those?

Then I was surprised to see you can add a PBABIP potential column and HRR potential column to your pitching ratings view now. You can't add current value though. What mystified me is that these PBABIP potential ratings vary. Even when the current value is at zero and there is no such PBABIP potential rating in the editor. For instance the fictional league shows the following (see screenshot), yet all those have a PBABIP value set to zero and after playing through 2 seasons, I can't find any change to them.

My assumption from what I can see is that PBABIP Potential actually just a guide to how a specific pitcher's arsenal will affect their babip, rather than the kind of "potential" ratings we're used to being what we hope a player "develops" to.

For instance, even with PBABIP ratings all set to zero, displayed babips still vary in the editor, dependant seemingly on what pitches they throw.

Any possible clarification on this topic by a Dev would be greatly appreciated.

TIA

Yes, that's essentially how it works. It does not have a true "potential" like the other ratings do, but for anyone where there is not a value set, one will be derived at based on their repertoire.

As to which players in the standard game have it set for, that's a relatively arbitrary decision, certain players who have shown an ability to beat the default have it set on them.

If it is set, it can vary with the regular development engine, and will generally tend back towards whatever their "default" value would generate as.

High is good

BABIP is how much they give up hits on balls in play. So someone with a high BABIP would be like a Gonsolin, who seems to be great at making sure he doesn't give up a lot of hits.

HR rate, is, well, the HRs they give up. I've been told pitchers do not like to give them up, so generally the better they can avoid doing that, the better their stats end up

I don’t understand the pitchers who like to give up HRs tbh it’s like NFL defenses who like to give up points. It’s like, just don’t, gosh

So is this a situation where Sandy Koufax and Nolan Ryan are going to finally start throwing no-hitters in historical games?
