How much?
Yes, I've pre-ordered 24 and I'm looking forward to tomorrow.
I'm curious: How much more would you be willing to pay for the game if it meant Markus could afford to hire an extra 3 to 5 programmers? Either a one-time price or a monthly subscription model. I know what my answer is and I'm curious to hear what others say. |

Would having 5 extra coders on the team take the game to the next level? A real financial system? Improved AI? An updated UI? Improved 3D? Licenses for all international leagues? Then I would pay $10 to $20 a month. Last edited by OOTP Rookie; 03-20-2023 at 04:06 AM. |

I don’t care how many coders they have. Price I would pay would depend on the improvements made. I always buy early but I sometimes think I should have waited for it to go on the half price sale. This past year I ended up playing 22 more that 23.

I have loved the game for over 20 years. Go to a monthly subscription model and I'm out. Might as well go to DLC and they could add a team for that deep financial model (or any feature X). Then you get "base OOTP" for $39 and if you want "feature X" that will be another $10-15. I don't think that is going to fly with the customer base.
If they want to add to the team to grow the game faster and raise the price in accordance? No problem. Of course there has to be value for the extra cash. Even with that some are going to leave because "this isn't The Show" and shouldn't cost the same. Having said that, and owning both OOTP and The Show on PS5, OOTP is the better game whether I consider cost or not. ![]() As is OOTP is currently a $60 game to me. If they want to add staff to make it better and raise the price to that? It's a win\win for me.

I'm surprised the price is so low this year. I'd pay twice as much.

They already have a subscription model, it's called Perfect Team.
and have what as DLC? The leagues they just removed and scrambled our saves over? No thanks. After that stunt it won't take much to walk away. No subscription or DLC EVER |

Ditto, Ditto, Ditto I'm out of Perfect Team this year. I just can't spend the big bucks to barely be able to compete. A bigger problem I see is teams continue to tank at years end especially during playoffs. 2 105+ wins teams got swept be 2 barely making playoff wildcard teams 84 and 85 win teams respectively. Of course they were knocked out and allowed to stay in GOLD league again while the 2 84 win teams have to go Diamond get slaughtered. |

Yeah, if you really want to pay a monthly subscription, you can play Perfect Team. Personally, I'm all for paying for OOTP and hell, I personally would even pay AAA rates for it (I'm guessing a lot of people would balk at a $60-$80 pricetag though), but if it went to a subscription type service I'd kind of expect the game to get released far, far differently than it does now, with feature updates throughout the year instead of them all coming in March, for instance. I think it also makes All-Star Game or World Series sales a bit harder to sell; some of what people do with those is hold out until the game is as stable as it's going to get and trade the extra several months they would have had in exchange for that. You add new features, you're adding bugs, that's just how features work.
I personally think the business model probably works pretty OK for them and we don't really need to spend time worrying about changing it.

I just bought my son a PS4 game that cost $100, which surprised me. But as andyhdz said, my gaming budget is OOTP and that's it, so yeah, I'd pay more than what is currently being charged but I wouldn't pay a subscription service. I'd be relegated to playing the last version I bought forever if that were the case.

I'll qualify this by saying that I'm a professional marketing consultant with extensive experience in advising companies on product pricing and marketing. I'm looking at this from a business and target market standpoint and not from the perspective of self-interest.
On the face of it, without access to the company's internal data, the price point for OOTP is far too low. I don't recall when the price point was last changed, but based on inflation alone, the price needs to be increased by $10 to keep up with inflation since 2016. Back then, the game was still selling for the same price as it is today, which is untenable from a business and financial standpoint. Ultimately, it should probably be priced at a minimum of $59 to protect against future inflation and bring pricing more in line with industry standards. Many gaming products are still priced too low relative to the cost of other goods and services within and outside the entertainment sector. They're also priced too low compared to many non-gaming software products. Granted, you're not going to set your price at the level of a business software product. But the gaming industry needs to continue to shift its pricing to match the massive demographic and economic shift we've seen in the gaming audience over the past 30 years. Approximately 75% of gamers are now 18 or older, and the average gamer is now 33. Sizable proportions of the gaming audience are now 40+ and 50+. You're not marketing and selling exclusively to 12 or 15 year-olds anymore. The audience is much older and more diverse, and it has vastly more discretionary spending and buying power than it once did. You need to take that into account and pull together customer survey data, product usage data, and other internal and external market indicators to make a well-informed assessment. Sometimes the "sweet spot" is a lower price, but sometimes you can be vastly underpriced and not realize it because you're not collecting and analyzing the right data, and you're not keeping up with inflation, your market, or your industry. You might also be too frightened of potential lost sales or a social media backlash. But if you don't adjust your pricing, you could potentially cause much worse damage and create greater risks to your business. Last edited by Charlie Hough; 03-20-2023 at 03:40 PM. |

You know your customers trust you when they're asking you to raise your prices, lol.

Honestly for how many hours I put into this game, I would be willing to fork over $60 each year. That said, I would absolutely not be willing to enter into a subscription model. However, we do effectively have the option to pay more at present if we want to just pay the base price plus whatever perfect points, regardless if we ever use said points. Though, I suspect that $40 and writing a review on steam post-release would help the devs quite a lot as well.

With the massive revenue inflow from Perfect Team, money is the last thing this company should be lacking.
