I never use Steam for any software product. I tried it once years ago with Football Manager and have never used it since then. I need to have total control over installations, patches, customization, and accessibility, and there are many cases where those options are limited with various games when you use them through Steam. So I won't buy a product unless it's available as standalone.

Well..to answer my own question, I've been using the stand alone version since I first started in 2015. I've thrown around using Steam but to install the mods etc I find it easier. Plus all my Steam games are taking too much room on my pc. And another reason is I may not want all the updates that come with it. Also, I keep all downloads on my external drive. I play mainly wargaming etc on Steam, so I keep those worlds separate. But I do have Digital Diamond and Baseball Mogul on Steam but I rarely play them. If you wanna add me on Steam, let me know.

As I've so often heard it said, "I like my games in one place, so I use Steam".

I like them in one place too, on my PC. I use stand alone.

I go the stand alone way. Never a steamer. They were hacked and people had their info stolen many years ago. It might be ok now, but I don't care. Don't trust them. Plus I have no reason for them.

This actually ties in nicely to the question I wanted to ask you guys: is it easier to get the Steam version for Mods? As opposed to actually having to drag files into proper folders to mod? And, also, if I have it on Steam, my father can't play it on our other laptop, right? Multiple links thanks to the boys.

I get the standalone version because OOTP gets more of a cut but also because frankly I don’t want to see how many hours I put into the game at a glance. There’s a spot on I think the database page where you can see that if you really want to but I mean it’s just sad. People are like “hey Syd, what do you do besides work and improv” and I’m like “well, you know…”.

Steam in theory since it should have an install option, though it's "not" really that difficult to install mods

If it is one Steam account, then yes you can... just not at the same time. You will need to close Steam on one machine in order to open it on the other laptop... though you can work around this by playing offline on one either machine.

LOL! There is that! My son always wants to know how many hours I'm at? It's kind of embarrassing...

Provided the mod is uploaded to the Workshop, then yes. You still need to enable on the OOTP home page in the Workshop section.

Steam is an excellent all round platform for gaming, imo. But if you're only really bothered about OOTP, or a few specific games, then Stand-alone is fine (and does offer ability to not-update)

Based on what happened with 23, youre better off with standalone so you can control when to patch

Yeah, theoretically a person who just never saw the announcement last year could have just not applied the last two patches and their League That Must Not Be Named would not get relocated to South Africa. I really, really doubt that that will happen again but then, it happening even the first time came from out of nowhere.

Either way - the game is incredible and works well on either platform.
Steam for ease of use.
However you can only have one game open at a time.
So you can't sim in the background for an hour while playing any other game in steam.

I usually get ootp on steam because here in Brazil its price is a lot cheaper than stand alone. That happens because the dollar exchange is surreal nowadays, and the stand alone version to us costs like 6 times more, it's a bunch of money for our reality unfurtunately. But I wish I could get from ootp directly in order to developers get what they deserve.
