"The power trip that we've been on this year with some of our officials in this league is getting out of hand." I agree w//van Fleet.

Yeah, it didn’t look like he said anything to the ref. The ref was just sad that he like threw a bounce pass or something.

The problem I have with the referees is the lack of consistency in what is regarded as a foul. The defender jumps straight up, arms straight up, the guy with the ball lowers his shoulder and initiates contact, but the defender gets called. This happens far too often.

I don't have a problem with a technical foul called because the player said a Magic Word. I expect the refs to control the game--within reason. I don't want the refs to insert themselves too much into the game. But I also don't want the players to think they can take liberties. I don't want things to reach a point like I see all the time in high-level soccer, when a ref issues a yellow card and the players crowd around and get in his face, and then follow him around like a school of fish, yelling and gesturing.

I watched the play, carefully. The dude did have his arms around the player with the ball. Was it a foul? Sure. I would have called it.

In general, though, I DO see refs on a bit of a power trip. I watch two NBA games a day, almost every day. I played organized basketball for close to 40 years, so I know what I'm looking at.

The announcer said that, yes, because the announcer was as flummoxed as anyone else that the ref T’d him up. Looking at the actual replay though, if he opened his mouth to say anything at all, it was very brief, like at worst he said the F word or “comeonyoustupidrefibetyourefixingthegame” at DC superhero speeds and perhaps in that case the ref thought he was trying to cast a spell.

Both you & his statements are assumptions. None of you heard him. None of you saw his lips move.

True. He might have teed him up for fun. Either possibility is just as valid..but MORE likely that the player did SOMETHING.

Why? Simply because the guy w/the whistle is the authority figure? Refs are no more credible eyewitnesses than police are @ an accusation of brutality.

The TV people here in Cleveland said last night's Cavs v Heat game, the second game between the 2 teams in 3 days, was a good example of what to expect in the playoffs.

Everybody here held their breath when Jarret Allen got hit in the eye. Hopefully he will be ok. Darius Garland had an eye injury early in the season. If Allen is out for a long period of time it will really hurt our playoff prospects.

Before the game our TV broadcast people showed a video tribute to our color analyst Austin Carr, who was celebrating his 75th birthday. There were clips from Del Curry, Walt Frazier and a number of other old-timer basketball celebrities wishing Carr well on his special day. Carr is a very emotional fellow, so of course he started to cry. It was a really nice moment.

We went to the Cavs vs 76ers game last night, so of course the Cavs lost. Still, it was Ricky Rubio Bobblehead Night, which made it fun even though he did not play. I thought we had a chance up until the last 6 minutes or so. The reversal of the 6th foul on Embid was a real head-scratcher.

Donovan Mitchell is still not 100%. It looked like he did something to his left arm or hand. He played through it, but I would not be surprised to hear bad news about his status within a day or so.

Hats off to all the people who work at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse. They create a safe, enjoyable, family-friendly environment for everyone. It's always funny when the Zoom Cam focuses on somebody in the crowd who doesn't react because they are staring at their cell phone.

How many of us knew Brooklyn has a better W/L record than the Suns & Mavs right now?

I'm only aware because they're also ahead of the Bulls. Who, I might add, blew them out by 40 the last time they played (the margin hit 50 at one point before Chicago put their back of the bench in the game for the entire 4th quarter).
