Clevinger in trouble

If 1/2 is true...he's in a world of trouble.

Nowhere in that article does it say went to the cops. Did she go through proper channels to report this abuse or is she just posting on Instagram? If the latter, then, whether this is true or not, she's an attention seeker. Doesn't change what he did or didn't do, but if it's the case, she's not just seeking justice. She's seeking notoriety.

Think about this. Mike Clevinger and Trevor Bauer were both on the Cleveland staff during the 2016 and 2017 seasons. Their pitching coach, Mickey Callaway.

Emphasis mine. If you know the internet like a 24-year-old does, you probably get what you perceive as justice faster from the angry pitchfork mob on ******* Instagram than from two middle-aged male cops that have 52 other reports to file.

This one will be interesting (in the most wicked sense of the word...) to watch develop, but for the moment I'll take it with a grain of salt. Approx. 83% of stuff on social media is filtered and/or outright lies, but I'm sure he'll be suspended without pay before Rob Numbfred has lunch today anyway.

Great clubhouse for sure. I wonder. What was their pre-season teambuilding excursion? A trip to the Arctic to club baby seals? Then take **** pics with the leftovers.

And yet the Cleveland Slimebags got all the way to Game 7!

Do I always expect the worst from humans? Of course. Why wouldn't I? Which is why I can easily see this one going either way, but at first glance, this somehow smells. I'm not saying he's innocent. I'm just not buying it yet.

:eye roll:

As much as I may dislike the 'dians organization, they're grown men, it's not like they got their behaviour from the organization.

Let's also not forget, this isn't the first time Clevinger has been in the news for the wrong reasons. Remember he and Plesac were put on the restricted list for breaking COVID protocol and it was so bad that at least one player said he'd opt out of the season if Clevinger stayed on the team. And he was traded only weeks later (Plesac wasn't). I mean, it's one thing to be young and dumb or at least careless/reckless. But those are often easily forgiven. His teammates wanted him gone. He missed 2021 with TJ surgery and had a poor 2022 so it may be no surprise San Diego didn't resign him, but maybe there were other reasons. And when Chicago signed him this offseason I distinctly remember one analyst (sorry, I can't remember which one) really not liking the deal.

Anyway, even if we were to assume Bauer and Clevinger are guilty of what they're accused of, I think there being a child involved in Clevinger's case makes it far more repugnant.

This is a crucial point to understand. I once had to take a deep dive into what to do with sexual harassment/abuse cases and I discovered that a large percentage of victims don't ever go to the police or any authority. They'll talk to their friends or seek out others who have experienced what they have, but they don't often go to the police on their own accord. I later had another experience where a young woman subordinate was physically assaulted, on camera even, by another co-worker and while she told me that night and we went to upper management soon after, she never did go to the police. For whatever reason there's often just a great reluctance to take it to police.

He should be suspended for the next 2 years and blackballed from baseball.

As someone who has interacted multiple times in a professionnal setting with victims of abuse (financial, sexual and physical, sometimes all three at the same time), I'm not going to doubt the motive of anyone choosing to go through the instagram court rather than the real court.

Just as I'm going to give the benefit of the doubt and not shame a potential victim from not going to the police, I'll also reserve judgement on wether these allegations are true or not, but let's just say that he doesn't strike me as the most upstanding citizen to have ever graced the diamond and I'm happy the MLB are investigating.

Fair points.

It's important to recognize that the decision to report abuse or harassment to the police or any authority is a complex and deeply personal one for victims. While some may choose to seek justice through official channels, others may feel more comfortable sharing their experiences with trusted friends or on social media. It's unfair to judge those who choose not to report to the police, as the psychology of a victim is complex and often influenced by factors such as fear, shame, or a lack of trust in the justice system.

I think the main reasons are embarrassment and the fear that they will either be blamed for what happened or simply not believed. I'm in my 60s and have had a lot of female friends over the years, and I've always been surprised at how strong that fear is even among intelligent, articulate, successful women..

Since Clevinger's episode with Cleveland's COVID protocols I can't feel anything positive about him. If these allegations are true, well, let the legal process run its course.
