Very disappointing decision

A bigger studio like Com2uS shouldn't have bought the game if they weren't willing to use their resources to even maintain its status, let alone improve it.

And I'd very much like to see an explanation as well. I don't think they've stated whether they literally couldn't get a [redacted] license for some reason or if they were just too cheap to acquire one. And I don't think they've said if they're working on getting [redacted] back into the game for OOTP 24.

If they simply decided the license fee wasn't worth it for the last few months of OOTP23's lifetime but that they were intending to pay the fee starting next year in order to have the league active for a full calendar year, I'd still be upset about how they handled it, but would probably understand. If they've given up on being a game that simulates all the world's top leagues, though, that would be very disappointing.

I tried to download a copy that still worked and did successfully, but due to some unforeseen circumstances had to uninstall it and re-install it today....so that means I am stuck with the updated version no matter what.

To me it will never be as deep of a simulation without Japan, since I very much enjoy the "full world" aspect of it. Without this league, it is basically impossible to continue in a realistic manner. On top of that, I spent hours and hours setting up international leagues to be perfect, not to mention the amount of graphic mods I have done for them. I don't blame OOTPD for this issue, as it is not their fault..except I will say I don't think the sale of the company helped.

So, I am packing away all of the mods, files and everything I have done over the past 20 plus years, uninstalling OOTP from my hard drive and calling it a day. Too much time invested in leagues and mods that are now ruined. I don't have the patience to start over...especially realizing any save I create going forward will never be as realistic as it should. It's funny, I did think the expansion of OOTPD was going to broaden its depth and reach in good ways...but unfortunately just the opposite is happening. Again...it's not anyone's fault, it's just what it is.

Time to find a new hobby.

EDIT: I am not saying I wouldn't come back...but something has to change. They are going to have to find a way to deal with issues like this in other ways. I really do hope one day that this issue is resolved in a way that can make everyone involved happy....but until then, I just feel like I would be wasting time not knowing what the future holds...and unfortuanely, as I stated above, that time has been considerable over the years.

Appreciate that. I know my points on this are an uphill battle as this seems like it's the cost of doing business nowadays. We are at an important part of gaming/entertainment history where we have to draw the line somewhere or it's never gonna improve. This one is hard because not only is it the most insane solution possible outside of deleting people's saves, but because I've played this game for most of my life. I'm not ok with these practices, even if it'll cost me playing this game ever again. Sucks.

You definitely make good points here. It's very strange that they sold us a product they didn't have the right to sell and then intentionally damaged that product after selling it to us. I don't know anything about the legality of any of that, but the morality is pretty clear.

What's happened, happened. I feel ya. Never talked with ya but read plenty of debates/posts of yours on settings and ratings. Appreciate the time you gave the game.

If what someone said is correct? Konami has an exclusive agreement with that league. So there is no choice until that contract ends regardless of any offer someone would make

Appreciate that. I do understand how people jump to those conclusions. There's no legal grounds as we all blindly sign terms and conditions. But you're 100 percent correct on the morality part. And the silence shows that was not a priority in their decision making.

Many of PSU's points I echo. The realism is hurt severely. Even if I didn't directly play the [league that shall not be named] teams having them exist in my world made a difference.

So, somehow the patch can:
Randomize a league name
Randomize team names
Randomize player names
Randomize Nationalities

But can't randomize everything and still keep the league in the same country? Personally I still wouldn't like the editing of saves, but at least I wouldn't have to figure out what to do with 100+ South African players

Exactly. The main draw of OOTP for me has always been that it has all of top-level baseball. The difference between having all and most is huge, regardless of how much time you spend actually managing outside of MLB.
