Any way to re-start a game?

Duh. I started a game without noticing that the AI had somehow substituted for the SP next up in my rotation. Worse yet, picked the guy who threw 117 pitches yesterday. I got into the first inning and noticed the SP was exhausted. This was after he gave up a couple of hits and a run. Warmed up my intended starter; but he of course took awhile to be ready. This isn’t the game I wanted, and the result won’t make any sense. I’m in the midst of a pennant race.

Is there any way to cancel this game, and then restart?

I tried restoring my last backup, which should have worked. Instead, the last available backup is from three days before, meaning I would miss three games l already played. I’m pretty obsessive about backing up before I close for the day, so not sure why that didn’t work.

I can’t find any control that would allow me, even as Commissioner, to erase this bogus game and start fresh. If that isn’t possible, it should be! Help!

If you haven't saved&quit the game, you can always force-close via Task Manager and the in-progress game won't be saved.

I tried that just now. The save reloaded with the game still in progress. Apparently I have this sim set to auto-save before exit. I wish it was also on auto-backup upon exit. I can’t believe I forgot to save, the last two times I closed the program. Presumably it would have been easy to restore to just before this unwanted game.

Anybody have any other thoughts? I would even be willing to try to find the game file and edit it out, if anybody knows how to do that. Again, I could save what i have, in case I screw things up.

yea...you can't really go back which is one reason I constantly perform backups, and then also just copy the saved gems folder to the cloud as well. On top of that I also have an Apple Time Machine, which allows me to travel back in time to a place where I hadn't done something stupid yet.

Ugh. I have Time Machine on my Mac; but unfortunately this game/sim is on my laptop PC. I still have trouble believing that I did not back up this season, the last time I exited the sim. Now my Hobson's Choice is whether to go forward with this damaged game - including possibly ruining my rotation going forward - or losing three games (two wins) that I played, since the last save. Thanks for the help.

You could just put the correct pitcher in as a follower. I have had to do that a couple of times.

Yeah, did that. But I messed up, by not giving him enough time to warm up. I always wait for “Ready” for RP. He was merely “warming up”. I even tried to buy time to go to the mound and have the SP essentially ask “WTF am I out there after throwing 117 pitches yesterday, you fool?!” So the SP got shelled as a RP. It’s just a poop show; although I haven’t finished the game yet. User error. But wish the game had a fail safe exit and purge for games started in error. The only part I can’t figure out it why the SP changed from my rotation. Do the daily lineups override the rotation settings, even when the SP AI chooses is gassed? That could be a glitch worth patching.

I don't think there's a way to do this outside of the Ctrl-Alt-Del method, and even there, if you exited and came back, that game is now in the record books.

TBH I've made little mistakes from time to time in games. Just chalk it up to a bizarre managerial decision or, like, the right guy missing the plane or something, that is my advice.

Good advice. Poop happens. A harsh reminder to [1] backup on exit, every time; and [2] check that SP before starting each game, to make sure the rotation is being followed.

I’m down 3-0 in the third inning, 1971 Phillies versus 1971 Cubby Bears, September 8 and on the very fringe of the Wild Card race. Tough way to lose.

What on earth do I say in my edit of the game summary, that would make any sense of the situation? Sure could say Rick Wise missed the plane or arrived late to the stadium; but why on earth would I start Lolich, who pitched the day before? My new worry is that this will - and properly so - trigger an injury for Lolich.

This is why I only set the auto-save to once per week, and then I manually save the game after each completed day. This way, if something bizarre like this happens when I load up the next scheduled game, I can use the task manager to exit and then re-load the saved game where I just saved it.

I've rarely had to do that, but I just had to do it recently when I dragged and dropped a different starter onto the originally scheduled starter before the game, but the change didn't take, and I didn't notice it until the game had started. OOTP does this on occasion, acting as if I dragged and dropped the pitcher back into the pitcher list, but I actually dropped him right over the starter.

It happens sometimes when I try to bring in a reliever from the bullpen, and it even removes the reliever from the bullpen, but instead of dropping him in as the active pitcher, he suddenly appears on the main pitcher list instead. But I watch for it carefully now.

Good advice. I am going to deactivate the auto-save, and just keep up the habit of manually saving as I exit. Too bad there is not a setting for “save on exit” and also “backup on exit”, which is my approach. I still have no clue why the backup I found was from three days earlier, instead of the previous day. Like you, I have been able to return to pregame in the past, in the event of some snafu.

What an ugly game! After the disastrous start, the Phillies came back to within 7-5, then lost 8-5, leaving a ton of runners on base. Mike Schmidt did hit his first major league home run. But a good defensive team committed five errors. Most of the Chicago runs were unearned. My Wild Card shot is now 0.1%. With expanded rosters, now is the time to play Schmidt, Jerry Martin, Billy Parker, Hank McGraw (Tug’s bro), Mike Anderson, Barney Dickey, Ron Allen and see what they can do. Greg Luzinski we know. He has hit .331 with 22 HR and 77 RBI, since being called up in June. Now at 69-75, still hoping to win most of the last eighteen games.
