I'm not sure if I was a betting person I would bet on the USA to outright win against Iran. If Iran beat Wales and we only tied.

Well, we should have beaten Wales, but we gave 2 of the 3 points away.
Walker Zimmerman, who gave away the penalty against Wales, gave away the late free kick that Kane nearly headed home. Perhaps Berhalter might consider subbing him off next game? If this was OOTP, his "stamina" rating would definitely be yellow when we need green. |

Wow, news media are calling the U.S. dominant in that match and probably disappointed that they didn't come away with a win.

I think if the US and England were to play ten games, the US would get two wins, two draws, and six losses. |

I wouldn't say we were dominant. We played better this game but not dominantly. We could have easily lost if the ball had bounced differently a few places.

They are saying this could have been the game winner, but I also remember an English header near the end of the match that missed only by a few degrees of neck swivel.

Iran got blown out by England though wheras we tied them. So this really feels like a tossup to me.

I’ve watched US mens soccer since the 90s and it doesn’t matter the roster, they always play the same- boring and usually draw. They had 0 urgency today, in a game they needed to win. If they manage to beat Iran I’d be surprised.

I'm not sure I agree with this. They were playing agianst one of the best teams in the world, and we're the youngest team in the tournament. If you're the Houston Texans you don't just pass the ball every down against the Buffalo Bills.

So the first half of today's slate of game was equal parts meh and rustic.
I hope Argentina shows something, although it'll be hard for both my favorites Argentina and Mexico to advance out of that group now. Poland 4 +2 Saudi Arabia 3 -1 Mexico 1 0 Argentina 0 -1 Two Argentina wins and a Mexico win against Saudi Arabia might work.

If they both needed a win, I think the US would win. But only needing a draw changes everything. If Iran scores first, call it. It's over. If the match is even at the half, expect Iran to play mostly defense. The hope is that the US gets out in front in the first half. That's the best chance. |

The New York Times ran this cool 3D schematic of the Weston McKennie play, another great opportunity for U.S. to have won the match. Oil your middle mouse wheel!
