Baserunning

So far my team constantly has a negative baserunning score. Throughout the season, I’m adjusting down (more conservative) the baserunners scoring poorly. This doesn’t seem to help with the rating. Is my poor baserunning due to just having poor baserunners, or is there more to adjusting the rating that I’m not doing. I adjust each players baserunning based on their year to date baserunning ratings.

More conservative could be contributing to negative base-running if I understand it correctly, since I think failing to score/advance can also be a negative - not just making an out.

It seems to work better for me to adjust my overall strategy like I want my team to perform as a team. Then I adjust the individual base runner sliders so that each person performs to his ability.

So if adjust my global strategy, who will that impact if all my hitters are set to override the global strategy?

I don't use the override team strategy. I read the "Adjust to Team Strategy" statement as not to mean matching team strategy but to adjusting individually to the team strategy. There are probably a hundred people here that say that does not work. However, I see the numbers change on my teams as I make the adjustments to my results and observe. I am almost always near the top in steals and base running.

So you can try and see, or not.

there seem to be a lot more players that have higher speed rating than stealing, or very similar ratings.

the AI is pretty awful on these. I think chipper jones was the guy in OOTP 22 that I just manually set to never steal? but, yeah, that.

I’m bumping this.

I can’t figure this out, at all. I’m currently -22.5 for baserunning. I’ve switched my strategy back and forth with no success. These have been my two strategies:

1) I will set my overall baserunning strategy. Generally much closer to conservative, as I’ve been struggling at this all year. I will the. Go into each hitter, and adjust their ‘Mode’ to “adjust to team strategy settings”. I will still adjust the attributes based on each players skill.

2) Only difference between this and #1 is changing the mode to ‘overuse team strategy setting’.

I have to be doing something wrong. As an example, Arenado is my worst baserunner (attribute wise, and statistically) as he accounts for nearly -7 BsR. So he he that bad because he’s a bad baserunner (per his attributes) or is he a bad baserunner because my settings. Like is there a way to make him a salvageable baserunner?

Another example. Let’s say I have a speed demon. What would be the most appropriate way to utilize this, without hurting my entire team (ie adjusting settings that make everyone aggressive)?

The sliders definitely don't work the same way they did in 22. Then, if, for example, I set a 95 speed / 90 steal runner to 1 tic above Never, they would steal 30 bases and get caught 5 times. If I set that in 23, they steal 5 and get caught 5. Or so it seems.

i had the 2nd highest baserunning score in my conference in some diamond league this week,

had stealing set to 'never' or -4 on everyone, and then baserunning set appropriately

you'll find even mediocre catchers throwing out 35% of runners, get someone with 80+ arm and it's 40-45%+

the worst will (again) be the ones with speed that is near equivalent or higher than steal skill ..

(i think i stole around 40 bases? i can't see now. but there was at least one person with fewer, i think maybe they just turned it off completely and had some hit & run steals?)

Base running just seems broken, and everyone is also loading up on power hitters who don't run well for the most part. I've managed to stay middle-of-conference by running very slightly aggressive and hardly ever stealing. This is pretty much a no-brainer when you look at team fielding and see caught stealing rates of 35-55% on every team.

just checked my baserunning rating for the new season (granted it's just a handful of games into the year, but it's something).... team is currently ranked 1st with a +5.5 rating.

my team strategy is still the basic middle-of-the-road settings, and I've adjusted each of my players according to their own baserunning/stealing/etc ratings to be aggressive or conservative as the case may be

i am at +1.8 base running, it says this is 7th. i think i had a bit of bad luck running the bases, but I attached the current SB:CS in my league

i am 6 for 12, 6 SB and 6 CS. I have a couple of guys at -4, but I think at least half of these are probably from hit & run failures

as of right now, the person with the most caught stealing in this league is Vidal Brujan, he has 118 speed, 107 stealing. 7 SB:7 CS for the Chicago Corgis , they have 10 SB and 11 CS total

I my baserunning is near as conservative as it gets, as I don’t really have any super fast runners or a plethora of good baserunners. I too also adjust each players ratings according to their ratings. My baserunning is currently -11.4. Each players mode is set to tonteam setting. Is that wrong?
