Barons Make Their First "Tradeup" from Card Shop
I know I said earlier I was likely to use my initial PPS for packs, but I found a significant improvement in the Card Shop. Replacing 1969 3B Bill Sudakis (48) with 1989 3B Kelly Guber (82) for 2700 PP. Thoughts about spending 3 times base rate for Gruber? Last edited by HRBaker; 05-06-2022 at 12:33 PM. |

The Barons were busy in the Card Shop today. Turns out I could "guarantee" more improvements using the card shop this week than taking a chance on opening packs... might turn to that next week. Sold all my upper end LIVE cards to finance this upgrade. Here's the team for "OL" as it stands today...

there's a link at the bottom of my sig that should bring up the online spreadsheet of teams/managers. I'll post a snapshot of that in the thread this weekend as well. Right now we have 23 teams in the mix, so plenty of room to get everyone added to the friends list (assuming the manager search page is working) edit: typically what I do in the "search user" box is enter this: -OL|- OL| -OL| - OL (that basically covers variations where a team added -OL with no space (Syrups-OL), or a dash-space (Syrups- OL); or a space-dash (Syrups -OL); or a space-dash-space (Syrups - OL)... found over the years it's hard to get everyone to use the EXACT same format, so that search usually gets em all. Any teams that search doesn't pick up can be searched for/added individually) Last edited by stl jason; 05-06-2022 at 04:47 PM. |

Did I miss your team/manager name? Did a quick scan back through the thread but don't see it (unless I went too fast which is quite possible)... I'll run back through the posts just to make sure. |

Wow, did they change the Perfect Team interface a lot or did I get stupid? Both are, of course, possible...
So much to relearn here...like where to put my new logos...I'm hurrying to get on board as fast as I can!

I'm not getting any hits on my searches for OL managers (using all the -OL variations I can think of). Even tried doing a straight search for "Syrups-OL" which is, I think, correct.
Are there known issues with the Managers & Rankings screen?

I don't see any teams on that screen, so it may not populate until our teams exit Entry Pool.

yeah, I posted in the bug forum in case it's not just the entry pool (cause if we have to wait until teams move into the rookie/stone/iron/etc tiers, the friends list won't kick in until the following week) |

I have some newbie questions here.
I opened up my starter packs and my team is absolute trash. Just two low gold players, two silver players, and a bunch of bronzes. I don't know if this is a lowroll or not though. (I don't have any of the legacy packs or anything like that) I played in the beta, and it was very different. I bought zero packs but was still easily able to earn them and unlock all the missions. In this it literally looks impossible to unlock any missions unless you buy a bunch of packs. From what I've seen in the beta and in other similar games (ala NBA2k22 MyTeam), I've had the impression that using your PP to buy packs is a bad idea, as I could easily buy 6 packs and get zero good players, while for the same PP I could actually buy some good players with zero risk. But this way I'll never really complete any missions, which seems vital to building a good team for free. And obviously I am not on track to being able to field any sort of decent roster while excluding some players to fit the rules of this league. My team hasn't changed since the start. So what's the right play here? Buying all the packs I can? And which packs should I get? Spending 1k of my 6k PP on a basic pack just to have a 1 in 50 chance to get a gold card seems ridiculous. I just don't get how people are posting about all they diamonds they have and the like. I don't get how that's possible without spending money or getting ridiculously lucky. |

I am not playing PT23 yet however, I did play PT19-PT22. Since you asked, my suggestion is not to rush things. Your team will build up, sometimes not as quick as you would like however, it will happen. I am not sure what packs are available and at what prices. I personally, preferred using my PP to get Historical Packs as every player from that pack is "OL usable" and can play. Save your PP for when those are available. In the mean time, if you watch OOTP streams every day or two, you should be able to collect 5 Standard Packs a day via Drops. Just make sure what you are watching advertises Drops. If you can't get OL compliant by SUN night using just packs, then either you hold out another week in being eligible for OL or you buy what you need from AH so you can be eligible for the start of things on Monday morning. Last year in PT22 it was the first time I ever ran my OL team as a Pack-Only team and I really enjoyed it. At the start of PT22, I delayed my start so I had a full week in the entry level to take full advantage of gaining more PP than only being in it for a few days. I had lousy card pack luck and it took my team 2+ weeks before I was OL eligible. My plan for PT23 is to play OL via purchasing Historical Pack-Only and only using the other packs I acquire for free from Drops or from collection rewards; no for me buying any players off of the AH. Good Luck Last edited by Bottom Of The Sixth; 05-06-2022 at 11:37 PM. |

that's a pretty standard pull of cards for the starter packs... and don't worry about not having extra loyalty packs or the like... I've been around since v19, so got a couple diamond packs/gold pack/etc.... both diamond cards are Live cards (so can't use 'em once league play begins), but going to play the long game and hang on to them for missions rather than go for the quick 8K pp or so... you'll definitely get more satisfaction for the points you spend if you buy the cards outright rather than spend it on packs, since you'll know exactly what you're getting.... flip side to that is, you potentially could spend 1K on a regular pack and pull that one-in-a-million historical perfect card that can either bankroll your team for multiple seasons by selling it, or carry your squad for years by playing it... good way to get some free packs is to go watch the live streams on twitch on the ootp channel (or sanctioned affiliate streamer channels as well)... limited to 5 packs per day, but that adds up after awhile and is invaluable to FTP teams (though streams are still paying out packs for v22 and haven't updated to v23 yet.... hopefully not to much longer for that switch) btw, below is my squad at the moment.... the Bosio card is the only really big pull I've nabbed from packs so far.... haven't bothered to buy any cards yet myself, just going with what the packs have given me |

Thanks for the advice, guys.

I work full time and have other interests outside of OOTP, so I really don't have a lot of time to be spending sitting in Twitch trying to collect packs. |

You have to link your Twitch account to accept drops for watching OOTP related streams, in order to get them;and you have to sit in front of Twitch in order to select a button every 15 minutes to claim one pack from a drop. Be aware that not all streamer shows last long enough to collect all 5 at one time. Sometimes you are lucky to only get 2-3. Here is some background about the Drops from PT22. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...d.php?t=323654 |

I have found that the best way to grab packs from tournaments is to check out the results and take a peek at the rosters of the teams that got into the late rounds and try to grab the same or similar types of players. I don't have the time or the inclination to set player strategies, but I've found that the game responds best to "moderate sabermetric," for lazy people like me. Remember, there are players who are dedicated and spend the time to carefully craft their teams and to actually play the tournaments, so you might have to content yourself with lower rewards than the top prize. However I found that, when I had taken this approach, and entered three tournaments every couple of hours, I could get into a dozen or so and would earn 50 to 100 packs a week, once I had a decent team set. When I was short of time, or disinterested, I would try to get into the daily tournaments that have diamond rewards. You hit one or two of those and you're walking in tall cotton. Iron or bronze have the quickest turnover and are the easiest teams to build. Don't overlook the cap tournaments, like the bronze 1350. They're quirky and easy to get lucky in. In short, let the hard core folks do the hard work for you and you can get a full meal from their scraps. |
