This news is a bit of a bummer, I don't like corporations dictacing what we can do or not with their branding, since it's so steeped in pop culture. A lesser case is Manchester United banning, since Football Manager 2021, players from sharing their logo in graphics mods.

Thing is, hidden in this mess there have been great posts by Thehef and Tiger Fan. Both give me hope that there are solutions coming for historical players. Probably above my computer capabilities, but then I see Silvam lurking and figure he may come to the rescue in the Steam Workshop. Man, am I needy.

Yeah, every single year. (I'm referring to historical games.) If it was something that could be set once and forgotten about, that'd be different.

When I play historical, I want actual historical, not a whitewashed version of it.

#1. This has nothing to do with OOTP. The MLB says you can't use name "Indians" if you want a license. OOTP choses to keep the license. No brainer.


#2. This totally rests on the Cleveland baseball club and/or the MLB. Name changes have occurred throughout the entire history of baseball and no one ever made an issue of covering up "what use to be".


#3. As a result of #1 and #2, blame the team or the MLB - and THAT is a political argument.


#4. As far as the game, we will have to change the team's nicknames if we want to revert to the old name - and let's face it - it isn't that hard to do. Making coffee in the morning takes more time.


#5. The one thing that DOES bother me is historical players in PT. Will Rocky Colavito's card say "Guardians"? THAT would be a shame, but I'll live with it and blame that on MLB too.

To test with v21 and v22 I made some changes to my OOTP21 teams.csv file and they worked just fine when I copied them to my OOTP22 stats folder, so fingers crossed it might be a very simple solution. And easy enough if one wanted to that you could simply copy and paste the new 2021 data lines from the upcoming OOTP23 file into the OOTP22 teams.csv you are replacing them with.

I'd think that will work. The only thing is that perhaps some minor tweaks or corrections will be included in the 23 version of that file. That's why I'm thinking the best course will be to use a modded version of the 23 file that any knucklehead with minimal Excel skills - such as myself - will create as soon as 23 is released. But, yes, for most gamers, what you suggest would be the simplest remedy. They'd still have to be aware of OOTP updates, though, because some of those might overwrite the file in question.

yes but in historical, you'd have to change it back to Indians every season or turn off evolution and do expansion manually.

Admittedly a lot of wasted words there. I don’t see any impediment to making changes - or not - in the game, for Cleveland historically and any affiliates, and I’m confident our enjoyment won’t be diminished. At least on that we can agree.
