Do the standalone and Steam versions use the same saved game folder? If I were to use the preordered beta that comes early, and then later purchase through Steam, is the transition of that saved game seemless?

You were close, just forgot the 14 Thanks for the high praise!

Example only, not the actual numbers.

$40 * .07 = 2.80 tx $42.80
$35 * .07 = 2.45 tx 37.45

Actual savings on the preorder is $5.35. That's more than the $5 discount
I can only speak for myself, but whatever the price is, including the tax, it's always worth it. When I look at how many hours of enjoyment I get from this incredible game, year after year after year, it's worth every penny.

I know the base game puts saves in a separate folder from the rest of the game so I’m not entirely sure. I think it continues to use the same senate folder for saves - I don’t remember having to find the Steam directory for moving things around in that.

You should have a Steam key for the latter question so it’s more of a question of adding that to your Steam application and then uninstalling and re-installing OOTP when the time comes. As far as using the save goes, at worst you’ll need to navigate around a little to find your first save, which you’d have to do as a part of uninstalling and reinstalling the game anyway.

I've had no issues using Steam that has resulted in me not being able to play the game. If one is worried they can set up the game to play in "offline" mode. I believe, that also means the game won't update unless one switches to "online". Someone please correct me if that is wrong.

One other advantage is, when patching, the game is not totally reinstalled as happens with Fastspring as the patch is the whole new exe. Where in Steam it only updates files that change. The advantage is mod files are not overwritten with each new patch unless, or course, if that one particular file is changed in the patch.

None of that means I think everyone should get the Steam version. Doesn't mean others do not have problems. I can only speak from my experience and what I know about how Steam works.

In the end, for me, being able to go to the Steam Workshop and install most of the mods I want (historical stadiums, face gens, etc.) by simply "subscribing" to the mod and letting the workshop install them makes Steam the better option for me. The only price I pay is to not get the 2 day early release that I used to get buying direct from OOTP.
So if you start with the Fastspring version can you switch to the Steam version and keep your season?

Sure, you can always move your leagues between Steam and standalone (or even Windows/Mac). It may require a little manual work, like copy/pasting the .lg folder to a different place sometimes, but it's definitely possible.

Yes, as Lukas also noted. I would add from a PC perspective that, at least for v21, both Steam and FS use the same location for saves in your MY Documents folder. Seamless switch between the two versions. I can't imagine that changing.

How it works going mac or linux to Steam I do not know.

Mods are a bit different in where they are located and why I prefer Steam and the Steam Workshop and not having to manually install them. In Steam you subscribe to the mod you want and Steam does the work.

This may seem like a small nitpick, but will 2022 start on April 7 with the actual lockout modified schedule, or at least have the option for that?

I shouldn’t admit to this, but honestly if the price for OOTP 23 were $100 bucks I would have placed my order just as fast, and I am not independently wealthy, just a semi-retired guy on a pension who gets lots of enjoyment from the game. When I think how much I spend monthly on TV streaming services, it’s a joke. There is no comparison. I think my stance on OOTP is called “inelastic demand”?

I really love the font for the new logo: the 23 on top of a baseball. If OOTP sold a hat with just that logo, maybe a dark blue hat with the Yellow 23 on a baseball or even the 23 alone, I might buy it.

They did T shirts with 22. I don’t wear hats except when it’s freezing (so only 250 days of the year here in Chicago) so I can’t speak to other clothing…
