Post Season Question

I have a random debut league. My roster size is 25, 14 position players and 11 pitchers. No minor leagues, I use unlimited reserve rosters.

I have a question about post season roster rules.

Boston is currently facing off against New Orleans in the AL League Championship Series. Boston is now down to 11 position players due to injuries. 2 catchers, one player at each infield position and 5 outfielders. This has them at a major disadvantage. I noticed this same thing happen last year to Memphis in the World Series.

Is this the way things are supposed to work or is there something wrong with OOTP's reserve roster post season rules?

Alright, I figured it out. I hate September roster expansion with every bone in my body. One of the first things I do when setting up a league is to disable September callups. Big mistake. That's what was causing my trouble. Instead of disabling September callups I changed it to 25(basically the same as being disabled) and ran computer manager on all teams. Boston instantly made the needed roster moves to up their roster from 21 players to 25.

Thank you for posting this... I have always wondered why I never could replace an injured player in the postseason.

I never do the September call up.

Post Season Roster rules.
You can only make changes during a series if a player is injured. There is a post-season injured list. But that player misses the rest of the current series and the next.
Any roster changes may be made between series as long as players are eligible for the postseason.
Always triple-check your postseason roster before the first series as AI makes changes. I am going to just clear the roster and start from scratch since I always seem to miss someone.

Thanks for posting this David. Because I play as commish/official historian, like you, I never would've known about this, had you not posted about it. Just did it in my game, and another setting popped up: Post-Season Roster Rules, either Enabled or Disabled. Assuming I should enable them, I did so, and it flipped to Disabled. Repeated attempts resulted in the same result. No idea what's going to happen now. I guess I'll try and do it again when the pre-season rolls around. Weird.

That flip from enabled to disabled happens to me as well, but when I had it at 25 instead of "disabled" the teams rolled with 25 in the post season.

As an aside, the roster expansion in September for the pennant drive never has made sense to me. Why bring up extra guys - who will be ineligible for the postseason - when they could make a difference and change a season outcome? To me it makes more sense to allow teams to carry extra players in April, larger roster, before finally paring down to 25. This year might be a trial of that IRL due to the lockout, with temporary 28-man rosters. Good.

because the season is twice as long as any other sport, and until playoff expansion most teams didn't have much to play for besides pride. It's a nice way to give guys who'd never make the majors a chance to play and I like it because I can play some younger guys after the minor league season ends. That's the reason for the timing, it's timed to when the Minor League season ends and guys are able to join the big club.

That isn't quite true. Most of the players brought up in September are on the 40-man roster prior to September 1 and therefore eligible for the playoffs.

Thank you so much for this. Like I said, I had no idea that this was happening, but to be able to fix it, is great. One less AI hole in my game is great.
