Why Do Pop Flies and Foul Flies Have Weird Angles
Animation is one of my favorite features of OOTP... I really love playing out all of my postseason games.
But I do have one question... maybe Matt Arnold or Lukas Berger could tell us where the problem is. Why do pop flies and foul flies in the infield area take such weird angles and trajectories?... it happens often in my games... maybe 5-10 times a game. Is this something caused by the way I set my cameras? Or it a game animation problem? Hope OOTP23 will take care of this glitch. |

I think that some of it for pop flies to the short infield is that the animations used to show the ball go way up in the air and take forever to come down. TBH that's probably the most "realistic" but a. the animations are pure flavor and b. people complained that they took too long to resolve, so they replaced them with shorter, quicker pop flies. I feel like what probably happened is that the ball continues to take the same trajectory - for instance, there's a F2 play where it starts fair but hooks foul - but since it's not going 40 feet into the air anymore, that natural curve of the ball looks awkward and weird now.
Speaking of, still not seeing these animations: - foul-outs to catcher directy behind the plate - foul-outs near the dugouts (I realize that different field sizes / junk being there in some parks might make this look wonky, but I personally would rather see the wonkiness at first at least) - Any kind of foul-outs to the outfield (I realize the game effect of a fair and a foul fly out to the OF is the same but you can always tell if an OF is about to commit an error when he goes into foul territory)

I sure hope they improve it in version 23. They are well aware of how unnatural it looks.

The only foul-outs to the outfield I get are when my OF drops the ball ![]() |

Just wondering if in the pitch-by-pitch mode there are foul balls that the player can't reach?... Does the animation show any movement by the player to reach the ball... or does it just show a foul ball? What is your experience in the pitch-by-pitch mode. I will have to play out a game pitch-by-pitch and see what it's like. Thanks for the posts from you and OrangeP47. Last edited by Eugene Church; 03-19-2022 at 10:45 AM. |
