I'd really like to see a easier way to view spring training stats. And maybe some sort of "position battles" tab to quickly compare guys.

I didn't know that Bill Veeck played OOTP!

(It would have been entirely in character for Veeck to make a kid manager for a game as a publicity stunt - he did do management by crowd vote at least once).

From what ive noticed this isnt really a thing at least not a well-programmed one. But as someone who loves to work their way up I would really like the game to make us work to get an MLB job.I feel like player reputation should mean more in terms of jobs offered. I shouldn't be getting GM or MLB managers offers day 1. Maybe have this be part of a challenge mode idk.

On top of that we should be able to reject a contract extension. Contracts and poaching should be a thing. I joined the Phillies in their DSL league as manager. Got moved up after 1 year. Spent 2 years as their Low A manager and was given 450k as manager of a Low A team which would never happen. On top of that they just gave me a new contract without any say from me. Id like to be able to get offers from higher up teams(like how a position coach can be poached to be OC/DC by another team in the NFL)

I run an online league that is global. I have every nation checked for 5 star talent and to generate players each draft. I've noticed that a lot of them come from the same cities however.

Seemingly every Canadian is from Sunnyvale Trailer Park. Every Malaysian is from some town of 15,000 people called Chaah. Every Afghan is from Dahaneh which has 2,000 people. None of these guys are from Kuala Lumpur or Kabul? Or anywhere else? Seems weird. And I know the Trailer Park thing has been mentioned a lot by Reddit users.

Feel like this could be pretty easily fixed if the game is able to generate several different names from each nation. Odd it doesn't work for birth towns.

A great improvement would be able to ask the owner for a temporary (yearly) bump to the budget in order to sign a Free Agent or extend a player. Especially if it's showing you have the revenue to support the bump.

For example, the Brewers make about 240m the first season, with only 140m in expenses. Their budget is only ~160m though. We should be able to ask the owner to bump up the budget in order to sign a free agent like, say, Trevor Story or Freddie Freeman. As it is right now is your owner gives you a budget, and you have to fit everything under that, even if your revenue is still 40-50m above the budget.

Of course, this is basically just calling for a overhaul to finances, though.

I've been saying this for years. I know they don't want to copy Football Manager, but if you/ve ever played that game, that's one of the best parts, is trying to advance your career as a Manager. If you're managing a League 2 team(4th level), and you apply to manage a team in the Premier League, you'll get rejected, as well it should be. Working your way up through the years as always been something I really liked about that game. And although the questions during the interview, can get a bit repetitive, it's fun going through the process. And during the season, being able to follow the "security" of various clubs managers job status, and how you can "show interest in that particular position."

Schedule

I run a custom league of 28 teams, 4 Divisions with 7 teams per. I play a 108 game schedule. What I'd like to see in 23 is the ability to (easily) create a playoff system that allows the top two teams in each Division to play against each other for the Division title, then a re-seeding of the final four to play out the championship. I can't seem to figure out how to make this work... Cheers!

On the player "card", instead of showing the per-162-games career averages, show per-600 PAs or 550 ABs (preferably the former). The per-162 works OK for starters but not super well for pinch-hitters and players often used as defensive replacements, and it's even not the greatest for players who consistently bat 8th or are in platoon arrangements. I do get that this is what they have on BBRef but this is one place where IMO it would be better to deviate.

For pitchers, it's a tougher call. I think ideally I'd like to see something like "per full season on the roster" but I think that would take a lot more coding. At the same time, that's exactly what BBRef does, it looks like. Maybe instead you could figure something out that averages out to 33 GS / 70 GIR per full "season". By my calculations that would make each start "cost" 0.432 and each relief stint "cost" 0.204. You could then figure out the algebra for "if those are the values, figure out how many starts/relief appearances a player with 44% starts and 56% relief appearances should show" and so on. As an example of what that might look like, I'm getting Dennis Eckersley for instance having pro-rated career totals of 55 games total with 19 starts. I could be doing the math wrong there.

As a stretch goal I'd love to be able to edit what totals to use but at the same time I'd be perfectly OK if all of that was locked into unreachable rules (and IMO the batting side is much, much easier to accomplish than the pitching side).

Yeah, the job interview thing was a nice addition to FM, even though if you start unemployed all of the chairmen ask why you've applied to so many clubs.

"Because I don't have a job."

"Oh, that makes sense."

I would like to see a detailed pregame screen that actually had odds in it, kind of like they have in football games. The odds would change depending on the starters for the game and of course the skills of the players. Just think that would be a neat touch.

I doubt MLBPA would allow anything that suggests gambling.

Here are my suggestions

1. Scouting Discoveries. It seems after 2-3 years every teams top prospect is a scouting discovery. I think top international prospects should be the ones in the international signing period and scouting discoveries limited to depth pieces that maybe turn out good. In addition, upgrade the prospect ranking so that guys are higher rated the more data they have. Occasionally you get the draft pick that becomes the number 10 prospect but usually it's guys that have been in the minors awhile and have some sort of track record

2. Trades. I want to see more AI to AI trades as the season progresses. Very rarely do we see teams have the "fire sale" that happens in real life. If it's late July I should see teams in last place start shedding players left and right. And I know it's rough to do but I would like to see a way where we can replicate the ramp up to the deadline and see 20+ trades on that day alone

3. Baserunning. I would much rather have a "green light" as opposed to steal and take a pitch or force runner. This could also tie into pick offs where if a guy has a green light he is more likely to get picked off. This would also limit the number of times guys get picked off who should not be taking leads at all (seeing my 20 speed catcher get picked off is frustrating)

3. Free Agency. I want to see more mega deals and the ability to offer more than 10 years. I am seeing way to many star players settling for 5-6 year deals and maxing out at like $28million per year. I also want to see less rebuilding teams singing star players. I just don't see the Rockies signing Carlos Correa and the Pirates signing Schwarzer. Plus relievers hardly ever get more than a 1 or 2 year deal which is smart but unrealistic. And I think this is tied to owner goals but I feel like every year the dodgers sign so many relievers that they end up releasing guys they signed 2 weeks ago.

4. Minor Leagues. I know this would be tough but I wish we could get Minor league reserve rosters and the minor league portion of the Rule V draft. Also, I know we can set a service time cut off for the minors but teams are actually allowed up to 3 players with more than x amount of service time. This would allow me to send my AAA player on a rehab assignment to Low A.

5. Arizona Fall League. I don't know if this is already in but I want the ability to pick which of my players goes to the Fall League. And maybe implemting the other winter leagues and assigning guys there as well

One big thing to bear in mind about scouting discoveries is that those are 16 year olds and tend to be very, very inconsistent in terms of actually coming through on their potential, far less consistent even than 18 year olds (who are already very inconsistent in the game). My experience is that once that washes out, 20, 30 years down the line you do *not* see the major leagues dominated by international players. There are still a lot of them of course - in today’s MLB almost 30% of all players in the major leagues were born outside of the US and the game reflects that - but I still see a lot of higher round draft picks in there as well (if anything the draft is too stable but that’s another issue entirely).

Perhaps the game should just exclude players in international complexes from top 100/200 lists entirely? I do feel like those folks would/should be mostly unknown until they started playing in games that count…

Sorry for the double post but it’s also my experience, shared with others, that the opposite of what you’re experiencing is the issue with baserunning: top level stealers get caught too often, sometimes going so far as to negate their contribution to the team. The devs have even acknowledged that this is an issue and think a potential fix is to up hit and run rates while also upping misses / automatic caught stealings off of those. IRL a lot of CSes that happen to slower runners occur due to a blown hit and run or run and hit. Like, Benji Molina attempted 10 steals in his career (and was caught on 7 of them). Was he ever actually given the green light, or were all those due to 1-3-6 pickoffs or busted hit and runs? I’m going to guess the latter.

That said, there’s not a lot of data on hit and run calls that I’m aware of. I know the devs prefer to refer to stats to base business rules off of rather than making an arbitrary decision and then considering whether to change it or not based on user outcry (as an example of where user outcry can go wrong, the year injury_log got injury rates to reflect reality, everyone and their dad complained that they were way too high now).

The ability for players to work to improve their weak areas. For example. a pitcher with control problems can reduce, with coaching or other means, the number of walks he gives up each game. Or batters learning to cut down on the number of times they strike out. This would also apply to fielding. Perhaps, players can be allowed one area where they choose a training session that over time effects this.
