Cannot Find Josh Gibson
Hello,
I've been running an historical simulation, starting from 1920, with little to no problems. I am using the default database. I took off the color barrier, I've integrated early, my sim has been operating with no hiccups. Until now. I just finished the 1930 season, and Josh Gibson is nowhere to be found. I search for his name, and he does not come up at all. I figured that maybe he would import with the new class of free agents, following the world series, but he is not there. I've utilized the search player function around the league, he hasn't even been created yet. Which is odd considering, when you look at his real life statistics, he started playing in 1930. I have not had this problem with any of the other Negro Leaguers, Satchel Paige, came in fine. So did Cool Papa Bell and Turkey Stearnes. I even tried manually importing him using his Baseball reference ID and I got the "import failed" notification. My only thoughts is that maybe he will show up in 1933? Because there is a gap in his statistics according to baseball reference? I honestly have no idea. Any help would be appreciated because I'm really enjoying this save, and don't want to have to start over. Thank you. |

To piggyback off this, I used one of the old CSV's to find another historical ID to import him. The import does work, but Gibson comes in as a blank slate. No real life stats, he came in as a 2nd basemen, this is obviously not what I want. I want to be able to reference his real life career statistics, in game from time to time. Any thoughts?

The correct ID is gibson002jos with 1930 import year.
I'm surprised you are saying this save has worked with no hiccups where NeL players are concerned, given their stats are viewed by the game as minor league. I'm presuming you're not using recalc? Even then, almost all NeL imports are fraught.

Everything's worked so far, I'm using the player development engine. I don't understand why Gibson didn't come in though, when literally all the other players have. When I manually view the database, through Notepad, he's in the database. My database pathway is the same as it's always been as well. It's extremely odd. I'm curious now if it's more than just him that hasn't imported. |

Did that ID work for Josh?

I was referring to the Negro League players, that were in the default OOTP database, appearing in universe in the proper years that they came in. So for an example, Satchel Paige appeared in the game in 1927, because that was the year he "debut" in the Negro Leagues according to the games database. In terms of how I was internally handling many of the Negro Leaguers, I would bump up their attributes, using the in game calculator and statistics I acquired from Seamheads, and I would use the ratings the calculator spit out as their original potential ratings. Because I have development on, the game won't nerf their initial potential into the ground. However what happens after that point, is really up to the mercy of the engine. I'll try to work on getting some screenshots of some of the various Negro Leaguers. The ID does work for Josh, but he comes into the game with no "real life" statistics tab. It's a little odd. I ended up using a small workaround that involved an old spritze database to get him into the game. If he, by some random occurrence appears again, I'll delete the copy. The only reason I ask is because I'm in the middle of a massive NeL project and am interested in all of the various ways these guys are appearing when they come into various saves. In my Bucs save (see my sig), I integrated the MLB in 1909 and have been adding heavily curated NeL players manually as per their debut year, while the Eclipse League is basically a quasi-NeL random debut save using MLB players as well but excluding all white players. Meanwhile I have been putting together and then honing NeL player profiles for use in OOTP, which I am to release for public consumption when I feel they are ready. I've still got a lot of testing to do to familiarise myself with some of the OOTP game situations I know little or nothing about, in particular the use of historical minors with the color ban off as it seems you are doing here. So whatever you throw back here will be of great interest and help to this project. Thanks G

So from what I've generally noticed, OOTP is lacking in terms of the Cuban members of the Negro Leagues, especially guys from the deadball era. In that case, I would say to use the method, I suggested with the Spritze Database. The Database itself is floating around somewhere on the forums. Basically using the Database to fill in the gaps with the players that aren't available. You can import them one by one. You can even use this method to "Replace" the Negro Leaguers in the default Database, to give them more sim friendly ratings/potential, rather than manually editing like I did. I'll get screenshots when I'm back home, currently have been away, OOTP is unfortunately on my desktop! |

I'm presuming you've seen this bad boy. DOOM DB TOOL
I use a version of Spritze with just NeLers in it and it works fine aside from the odd one or two (Spot Poles, Chino Smith come to mind). It isn't the ability to import them taht is problematic, but the version of the player that imports. You'll see I've now started releasing my NeL player profiles HERE. Whenever is convenient on the spreadsheets thanks mate, no rush. G

As to Gibson being absent from the database, I had that problem with a few Negro Leaguers in my 1938 simulation. I researched it, and found that they were playing overseas that year. Since they were no active in the Negro Leagues, OOTP did not include them in that season (since the database only includes Negro League stats, just as it does not include Winter Leagues for MLB players or barnstorming). I had to create those players based on prior stats, and what I could find from their games in the Caribbean.
