There hasnt been an intelligent, well-thought out post yet in this thread, though mine was close. Yes, I am a basketball fan, and I find it exciting, despite the low scores and poor shooting.

Hah! Ruutu is my favourite player on the team! Gets under everyone's skin then just when they're ready to fight he walks away and they get a penalty.

But that rookie Jason King is gaining on him. That kid is amazing! Always seems to be in the right place, rarely makes a mistake. If he continues at this pace the Canucks just might be the new Red Wings!

King is freakin' awesome. I remember in 2001-2002 when King was with the Halifax Mooseheads watching him score... I think it was 7 goals in one game. Just *amazing*. And a steal as a 7th round pick.

Damn... you guys (Vancouver) love drafting all those Halifax Moosehead players... Brandon Reid, Jason King, etc... took two in the most recent draft, Marc-Andre Bernier (4th round) and FP Gunette (7th round... and if you love King, wait until you see this guy play. Averaging a goal a game this season in the Q. AMAZING on the PK... last season he had a number of beautiful short-handed goals where he's just poke the puck away from the player and get an easy breakaway)

No, he's a smart player for drawing the penalty and getting his team a powerplay. Everyone on the receiving end always says a player who doesn't fight is a pussy... but when you have a player who does it for you, you aren't complaining.

Agreed.

I've been paying my bills this way for 15 years now.

i disagree...if there is a Wild player that does that...i'd call him a pussy too....if you can't back sh!t up like that, you don't deserve to be a qweer and hack people to sh!t

I take it you don't recall last year's playoffs. He is a fighter, but he's a smart fighter. If he already knows he's committed a penalty then he fights. Granted it's probably usually to draw a penalty on the other player as well, but that's smart too. And he fights well for a guy who doesn't have a fighter's body. The point of the game is to win, not to be an idiot and fight for the hell of it and risk costing your team a power play goal against. Call me a pussy lover if you want, but I love smart players who do whatever they can to help their team win, and Ruutu does that.

EDIT: With the one exception of cheap hits to injure. That's not cool with me.

in the sense atarizx3 means it...me too

in the sense that i mean it....not me

kq76....i don't see Ruutu ever, unless they are playing the Wild...my opinion may be off centered because it is against my Wild, and it may be just because i don't like that style of play...if you are playing as a guy who tries to get others in the box for a penalty, that is your style...but you have to be able to back that up....may it be throwing one punch, or just circling around with the guy, but when you run away the second someone looks at you, or you fall to the ice the second someone drops there gloves, that is not cool...except when your face is on the ice...if i was on that guys team, i would not like him much because he takes cheap shots and that means others on his team will get it for revenge

(whoa was that one long runon sentance)

I enjoy a good fight just as much as the next person, but at the same time, from the standpoint of the fighter, I really don't see the point in bruising your hands and face if you don't need to. There are some times when I think you need to beat the hell out of the other player and risk getting hurt yourself (intimidation, retaliation for a cheap shot on a teammate, lighting a fire under your teammates' butts, etc), but if there's no good reason for it then I don't see the point. Being macho is often just being stupid imo. This is professional sports, not an elementary school playground that we're talking about.
