Qualifying Offers

In my online league it looks like most players reject qualifying offers. I saw 1 player reject a qualifying offer then request 3 years at $3M per year in free agency. Why would someone reject 1 year for $15M for a chance to $9M over 3 years?

I think the logic for accepting/declining qualifying offers needs work.

I wouldn't mind seeing a baserunner getting throw out at 2nd. as he attempts to stretch a single into a double.

Still love this game !

Happy Hollidays from Bob in Buffalo.
So the start of all star voting started as early as Late April and as late as early June (all within the last decade), so not sure how they would go about changing it, since there doesn't really appear to be a consistent date.

Fwiw I had it happen in my last ST game I played.
Yeah, I have definitely seen runners get thrown out on the base paths in this version. I’ve even seen a couple rundowns, although the animation for those, I suspect, are still in their infancy (balks too). With the voting… man, I just don’t know. Maybe hardcode it to start after the 30th day / the 20% mark of the season? I kind of don’t want yet another option in there for something that’s basically gravy.

Speaking of the voting, does anyone know if the game keeps a running tally behind the scenes, or if it just generates the numbers fresh each week? I’d love if the former is the case…

QUESTION: Anyone have any ideas how the licensing (Players and MLB) might be affected in OOTP 23, should the current real-life lock-out continue? Not sure that real players or real MLB teams will be available to be included in the next version. LOL! I could live without real baseball, as long as OOTP 23 is up-to-date.

Or am I concerned over nothing?

I *think* OOTP has separate agreements with MLB and the MLBPA already, so, like the MLBPA website (but hilariously not MLB's own site) they should continue to be able to use both team data and player data.

I’m being a broken record here, and it probably has been mentioned numerous times, but a post-season “All MLB” all star team, separate from the mid-season game. Apparently there’s been a real-life one since 2019. Also, other awards such as the Hank Aaron Award for best hitter. Maybe it’s a personal thing but these awards are something to look forward to after a long season and generally not making the playoffs.

I'll add to this my own broken record point, in that something like this would be good for leagues which don't (or can't, eg single sub league more than two divisions) have an all star game, but want to name an all star team.

I would like to see historical managers and historical player-managers handled better. It’s weird when a team fires its manager but the same guy continues to play for them while also managing a new team in a different city.

Have the offseason recap of team transactions for the entire year.
When shopping a player, ability to ask for draft picks.

For me, keep improving the AI as always (Team management, trade and game management), and the 3D.

When shopping a player, I'd like the ability to exclude positions that get returned as options. Most notably reliever, but there are times when I'd like to exclude other specific positions as well.

I'd like to have a printable summary of the regular season.
Things like...manager score/team record/team HR/RBI leader/ pitching stats/team MVP etc. I'd print and keep them for every season.

Cloud save

I would LOVE to have the ability to cloud save local games. I would like to seamlessly move between my two PCs on a local game, not just PT games.

Would be amazing

This would be cool but bear in mind that OOTP saves can get *massive*. This isn't a game like The Witcher 3 where you only have to track the history, location, and stuff of basically one person and leave everything else more or less static. Even a 25 year built up history has several thousand players, many of whom have played a thousand or more games apiece, a whole massive load of messages, injuries to keep track of, etc. My main save is 2.17GB in size - 2.26GB in practical terms because of all the files - and it isn't even as large as some peoples' saves.

I imagine they could do a better job of compressing all of that data but even that comes with a cost - I will say that my save loads in 30 second or so, saves within a few seconds, and it would not be super cool if those times expanded out to 3 minutes and 1 minute, respectively, which could be the time you looked at if the game had to unzip a folder as part of the loading/saving sequence.

Preview setting changes. Without having to switch to another screen.

Incredible we don't already have this quite frankly.

Only a guess but I bet OOTP use studies show most don't play out ST games. Most sim and use it as a development\rust remover and they see it as not a "bang for buck" in development compared to other areas? Incredible it's not in is, to me, an overstatement when compared to other areas that could be improved.

For those that want it I hope you get it.

As for me, with the current model, I get all I need to get my team ready. And yes, I do play out all of the games. In my case I would get no enjoyment out of having to play two games per day and, on top of that, have enough players to play all of the extra games properly. Review the bolded statement above, I'm not arguing against it being added. Just throwing out my thoughts on why it's not there and... why I wouldn't use it

Yes, I do get it would be an option and I wouldn't have to use it. Doesn't change why I think it's not "incredible" it's not there.

Don’t forget that ST is a tremendous way for new users to introduce themselves to the game, before certain league settings they may not understand are locked in, with little or no risk if they run off the rails. I started with OOTP 21, and had a great time messing around with settings during ST. And with OOTP 22, there were enough changes for me to check them out and get newly comfortable, playing a few Spring games. The beauty is you can play a little or a lot, or just let the AI play the games and make the roster cuts, with little or no intervention. I like to bring up budding stars a bit early (unconcerned about arbitration eligibility), and giving them everyday work in the Spring with the big club should help them when the season starts.
