Topps 1978 updated

This is a new version of the Topps 1978 bbcard template. I started with klavier's files taken from this page: https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...ighlight=topps, and then made some improvements. In order for these files to work properly, you will need klavier's original files ... then add in the files uploaded below.

Due to size limits on attachments, there are three zip files:
  • TOPPS 1978 AL pix: image files for the 1978 AL teams, including both A's and Athletics versions, and a Guardians card
  • TOPPS 1978 NL pix: image files for the 1978 NL teams
  • TOPPS 1978 templates etc: the XML files, images for the all-star shields and the rookie trophy, plus cards for Marlins, Nationals, Rockies, Diamondbacks, Rays, and Devil Rays.
Place the xml files in your bbcards templates directory (for OOTP22, it's Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 22\bb_cards\templates\ootp22\), and place the images file into your bbcards images directory (for OOTP22, it's Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 22\bb_cards\templates\ootp22\images).

All of the templates have a line in them that uses my team backgrounds file (which can be found here: https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...d.php?t=328973). If you want to take the team backgrounds out, edit the xml file by taking out the token with [%TEAM_NICK]_[%RANDOM_NUMBER].png.

Thank you for these and the 1977 set also. Your 1961 set is really cool too. Love BB cards in this game.

I have a suggestion. Would you consider at least looking at the 1986 Topps set? I tried at one time but couldn't figure out how to do the XML to make it work. I made the card templates but got stumped. Thanks.

I think I remember seeing some of your images for the 1986 set; they were pretty good. I'd certainly want to give it a try - a 1986 set would be way cool. But a warning: I'm not really that good at editing the xml files, certainly not from scratch (and especially not the card backs, where I'm clueless).

If you have some xmls, I can take a shot at them. And do you know the font you used on the fronts?

1986 xml files.zip

Here are two zip files I have. I made a card template for every team. That's how I was able to get the exact card font. It's on the card itself. That way I could also have the correct font color. The xml files I made one for each team as it was the only way I could figure out. You couldn't use this to make a team set all at once, but you could use it to make single cards for everyone.

Hope this can help you. And thank you.

Here are 3 samples. So, in my xml files in my game, I have one for each team. default_1986_Topps_angels.xml etc. One for each team. I just pick the team xml for whichever team I need.
I only have default templates. This was how I was able to use the font and color of the font.

Here is the closest font to the 1986 card font. Free one. Got it from "whatthefont". Napoli TS ExtraBold is one for $24.80. I chose the free one.

Zappa: thanks for these files. Let me see what I can come up with.

The_Game: no, they don't, because the team names don't come from an xml token. Klavier's originals do. (And I want to stress ... Klavier did all the heavy lifting by creating the files, a while ago ... and that work is AMAZING. I'm just building off of it.)

I wanted to make my own files because the standard OOTP fonts don't look anything like the actual 1977/1978 cards (and you can't add fonts into the game, at least as far as I know). See comparison below; original version on the left, my edit on the right. The 1977 and 1978 card sets really resonate with me, since I bought a ton of those card packs as a kid.

So what I did, in order to get a closer-matching font was make a dedicated png for each team, with a font that looks close. 1977 font is Gadugi Bold; 1978 font is Brush Script Std Medium. And the 1978 text and frame colors are a match for the real thing.

(And, yeah, I'm being a little optimistic about Francisco Alvarez.)

Can you please create a 1978 template for my fictional expansion team: Portland Beavers?

Thank you!
