I think what you're shooting for is to have recalc off* and player development on and then depending on how many surprises you want, set Talent Change Randomness to some number other than 100. The lower the number (100 is average) the fewer random, non-age-related bumps and hits to talent guys will have. I personally do a fictional league because I don't like looking at a name like Reggie Jackson and thinking he has to be a future HOFer (you do you, of course!) but I also think that a lot of "aging effects" are actually more or less TCR so I have aging turned down, development turned up, and TCR set to (I think it's) 125 right now. *just to note, too: there's a setting where players continue to develop after their real-life careers end and the algorithms can't come up with more stats. This is mainly there for if, say, you wanted to do a replay of the 70s but wanted to see what Lyman Bostock might have been if he wasn't murdered. For the most part, most players will be kind of trash at the end of their careers - there's a reason why the game left them - and as such you won't really see a lot of effect for them.

I went with PD on and Recalc off and 100 TCR and see how it goes. Will make changes to my taste based on the results. Thanks again for all the input. I have all coaching turned off until I understand it better. I also have all morale, personality, etc... turned off. Last edited by Greymantle; 10-22-2021 at 07:22 AM. |

I started in 1991 as the Montreal Expos. I am now at the start of the 1995 season (I play out every game). Most of my players developed and performed according to their real life counterparts, with the following exceptions: Bret Barberie actually developed into a decent everyday player. Not a whole lot of homerun power, but hit around .280-.300 with some gap power. He did have a down season last year, so we will see if he rebounds or if it's the start of the decline for him. Jeff Fassero never really developed and now is kind of a tweener between minors and MLB. Ivan Calderon was having seasons in line with his real life counterpart until 1994 (he was retired IRL by then) where he hit .339 with 37 HRs and about 130 RBIs. Everybody else more or less produced according to expectations. There was also Dennis Martinez who started to decline a bit faster than he did IRL. |

I will turn on the coaching after I learn the game better. I'm not to sure on personality and morale for I don't see how OOTP can have any idea on how they were in real life. |
