Game 163: Funky Buddha Huki Idol vs Terrapin Hopsecutioner
Funky Buddha received some well timed dominant pitching as they left no doubt as to the outcome of their division clinching game. Starer Joe Swigart gave up just 2 hits and 1 run in his 6 innings of work. The Huki Idol bullpen kept up the pace as Chris Martinez pitched 1 inning with no hits, no runs, no walks and 2 strikeouts, and closer Luis Rodriguez tossed the final 2 innings, giving up just 1 hit while racking up 5 strikeouts. On the offensive side, right fielder Ben Peterson did the heavy lifting as he went 3-for-4 with a home run, 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored in the 5-1 victory |

Stokman claims Stout League Batting crown with 5th best average all time
While Joey Stokman (RF) of Palmetto Ghost Rider is only a year older than Lager League Batting champ and rookie Dave Miller, Stokman is in his fourth year in the league. He broke into the starting lineup last season, batting a respectable .292 on the year; but obliterated that this year with a red hot .384 average. |

Stamey still stupendous
After leaving Weyerbacher to test the free agency market of the Beer League, some critics questioned whether Jim Stamey would still be able to put up the impressive numbers of his first 6 years with a new club. In his first year with Crooked Crab Furious George, he showed exactly why he is in a league of his own among Beer League pitchers. Stamey claimed his third Pitching Triple Crown, nothing 20 wins, a 1.81 ERA and 272 strikeouts; throwing down the gauntlet to any challenger as he looks for his 7th consecutive Pitcher of the Year award. |

Milling Series - Game 1: #1 Scorched Earth Giant Killer vs #4WC Ballast Point Commodores
Scorched Earth players and their fans went into game 1 feeling confident of their chances to emerge with a victory, as they had their ace Mike Sikorski (18-5, 2.39 ERA in the regular season) taking the mound. Unfortunately for the Giant Killer, Sikorski would be removed from the game with one out in the third inning and is being monitored by the medical staff for a potential injury. The bullpen struggled to hold back the Commodores as they would rattle off 10 hits and 7 runs off the relief staff; while Ballast Point starter Mike Roberts would cruise along for 6.1 innings, giving up just 3 hits and 1 unearned run en route to an 8-2 victory to open the series. |

Milling Series - Game 1: #2 Weyerbacher Blithering Idiot vs #3WC Horsefly Jazzy Razzy
The opening game of the Milling Series between Weyerbacher and Horsefly went down to the wire, with the game tied 3-3 heading into the bottom of the 8th. It was at that point Weyerbacher finally broke through, plating 3 runs in the bottom half of the frame to stake themselves to a 6-3 lead. Blithering Idiot closer Bill Mora, who blew his save opportunity in the top of the 8th, found redemption in the top of the 9th as he held the lead to claim a 6-3 win in game 1. |

Milling Series - Game 1: #3 Boulder Killer Penguin vs #2WC Sierra Nevada Narwhals
In what could be one of the most exciting series this post season, Boulder hosted Sierra Nevada to open their Milling Series after claiming the division title from the Narwhals in game 163 just days earlier. Sierra Nevada would claim the opening victory as starter John Breithaupt was nearly untouchable on the mound, tossing a complete 9 innings, giving up 5 hits with no runs, no walks and 5 strikeouts as he guided his club to a 2-0 win. |

Milling Series - Game 1: #4 Meadowlark Mob Barley vs #1WC Tree House Tornado
While they are technically a wild card team, Tree House comes into their Milling Series against Meadowlark as the favorite with the odds makers. They didn't disappoint as starter Mark Reimer went a solid 6.2 innings, giving up 4 hits and 1 run before turning things over to the bullpen. Chris Byerley and David Ewell closed out the final 7 outs of the game without giving up a single hit as the Tornado claimed a 3-1 win to open the series |

Milling Series - Game 1: #1 Funky Buddha Huki Idol vs #4WC Rabid Dwarves of Doom
When starting pitcher Chris Velarde finished the 2025 season with Goose Island, he briefly considered walking away from the game, after a dismal 8-16 season. Instead he tried his luck with the free agent market and signed on with Funky Buddha. While his regular season record wasn't stellar (8-6, 3.30 ERA), it was still a step in the right direction. Today, Velarde was tapped to start game 1 of the Milling Series for the Huki Idol and he made the most of his chance, tossing 7 innings, giving up just 2 hits, no runs, no walks and 5 strikeouts as he helped lead his club to an 8-0 victory. |

Milling Series - Game 1: #2 Kona Pipeline vs #3WC Crooked Crab Furious George
While Kona comes into this matchup as the higher seed, Crooked Crab will have the possibility of 6-time Pitcher of the Year winner Jim Stamey tossing 2 of 5 games, so the pressure is on. Fortunately for Kona, they were able to make Stamey toss more pitches than he might want early on, chasing him from the game after just 5 innings of work and 99 pitches. Unfortunately for Kona, he was still Jim Stamey and only gave up 1 run off 5 hits with 2 walks and 8 strikeouts. On the flip side, Kona starter Brendan Poole struggled and only lasted 2.1 innings, giving up 5 runs on 6 hits as Crooked Crab would claim a 6-1 win to open the series. |

Milling Series - Game 1: #3 Four Hands Typhon vs #2WC Russian River Blind Pig
In three of the 8 Milling Series matchups, the wild card team finished with a better regular season record than the higher seed. That's the case here as Russian River notched 3 more wins than Four Hands after 162 games. The opening game of their series was a roller coaster, with Russian River striking first with a run in the 2nd inning, only to see Four Hands tally 2 runs of their own in the bottom half of the frame. The Blind Pig tacked on 4 more runs in the top of the 4th to reclaim the lead 5-2. Four Hands chipped away with 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th to narrow the gap to 5-4; and then 2 more runs in the bottom of the 8th to claim a 6-5 lead with just three outs to go for an opening game win. Unfortunately for the Typhon fans, Russian River picked up two solo shots by Mathis and Fortner to reclaim the lead once again. The bullpen would make that hold up and the Blind Pig emerged with a 7-6 win. |

Milling Series - Game 1: #4 Stony Creek Crankenstein vs #1WC Terrapin Hopsecutioner
Stony Creek knew coming into the series they would have their hands full with Terrapin, as they were no mere wild card team. As in many post season games, an unlikely hero sometimes emerges to have the game of his life. This game, Crankenstein starter Grant Howe (2-2 in 12 starts with a 2.88 ERA during the regular season) pitched the game of his young career. Howe would take a no hitter into the 9th inning before Cameron Wiggins would notch the first base hit for Terrapin to break that up. Stony Creek closer Brendan Seidensticker would come in to notch the final out, earn an easy save, and finish off a 4-0 win |

Milling Series - Game 2: #1 Scorched Earth Giant Killer vs #4WC Ballast Point Commodores
In a normal world, when your starter goes down in the second inning due to injury, fans of that team might be concerned that a bullpen game will be a throwaway game and they just hope to regroup the next time. For the Commodores, their bullpen of Chris Roesler, Ken Emon and Dave Salazar were virtually unhittable as they combined for 7.1 innings, giving up just 1 hit, no runs, no walks and 3 strikeouts as they helped Ballast Point claim a 2-0 victory and a 2 games to none lead over the top seed in the playoffs. |

Milling Series - Game 2: #2 Weyerbacher Blithering Idiot vs #3WC Horsefly Jazzy Razzy
The Blithering Idiot received a solid game from the heart of their lineup as Jason Delaney (3-for-4, 2 runs scored), Alex Madrigal (1-for-4 with a home run, 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored), and Alex Perez (2-for-4, a home run, 3 RBIs and a run scored) powered their team to a 6-1 win and a 2 games to none lead in the series. |

Milling Series - Game 2: #3 Boulder Killer Penguin vs #2WC Sierra Nevada Narwhals
The Narwhals took a slim 2-0 lead into the later innings, hoping to eek out another road win against the Killer Penguin. The pitching duel fell apart in the 6th inning as Sierra Nevada tallied 3 runs, while Boulder picked up 2 in their half. The next inning, both teams notched 3 runs each. Sierra Nevada tacked on one more run in the 9th to claim a 9-5 win and a 2 games to none lead in the series. |

Milling Series - Game 2: #4 Meadowlark Mob Barley vs #1WC Tree House Tornado
It was a game that kept fans on the edge of their seats as Meadowlark scored a game tying run in the bottom of the 9th to narrowly avoid a 3-2 loss and push the game to extra innings. Unfortunately for the Mob Barley home crowd, Jeff Brown of Tree House would stroke an RBI single in the top of the 12th to reclaim the lead for the Tornado at 4-3. That lead would hold up and Tree House now holds a 2 games to none lead in the series. |

Milling Series - Game 2: #1 Funky Buddha Huki Idol vs #4WC Rabid Dwarves of Doom
Gnarly Nirvana was rocking for game 2 as the home crowd watched center fielder Valentin Gonzalez put on a show from the lead off position. Gonzalez went 3-for-5 at the plate, with a home run, 4 RBIs and 2 runs scored as he lead his club to an 11-5 victory. Funky Buddha now holds a 2 games to none lead in the series. |

Milling Series - Game 2: #2 Kona Pipeline vs #3WC Crooked Crab Furious George
Hoping to avoid the dreaded 0-2 hole after 2 home games in a best of 5 series, Kona sent veteran starter Ilan Leger to the mound to try an even up the series; and fans were not disappointed as Leger spread 5 hits over 8 innings of work, giving up no runs and no walks with 7 strikeouts as he led the Pipeline to a 6-0 win |

Milling Series - Game 2: #3 Four Hands Typhon vs #2WC Russian River Blind Pig
Two swings of the bat in the 3rd and 4th innings were key for the Blind Pig as Rico Mendieta cranked a 3 run homer in the 3rd; and Dave Harley blasted a 3 run homer of his own in the 4th to stake the club to a 7-3 lead. Four Hands would chip away at that lead in the 6th inning to narrow the gap to 7-6, but that would be as close as they would get. Russian River tacked on an insurance run in the 8th and would claim an 8-6 win, and a 2 games to none lead. |
