Potential ratings over 30 issue - Jim Hickman example
Here is an example of where, to me, the potential cut off at 30 causes issues.
Jim Hickman PEAKED power at 33 years old. Below you will see his RATINGS at with NO RECAL only OOTPB Dev on at 29 years. If you import on year he turns 30 you WILL NOT see his actual career potential as shown in screen shot You will also see how a 3 year recalc will pick up some of it as shown in screen shot |

this is the give and take with the settings you have available...
setting it to use peak year may fix this guy, but then you got problems you don't like elsewhere. i'm picky too... but, sometimes you just gotta work with what is given. the only time they should "match" is the moment they impoart, than after that it is a simulation. one-off players (one good year or crazy shifts in results) may get missed with some settings cofigurations. But, if TCR is on, can still get that stuff to randomly happen to some. if you want it to be more closely resemble history, there's a way to do that too. Did this guy have some crushing injuries during his prime? that looks to be major reason why he "blew up" in early 30s... just mish a ton of games... those samples are so small they are worthless to judge him those years. another limitation of how we digitize these players... it's automated.. prolly doesn't consider stuff like this for any but the most popular players and only due to complaints that highlight it, lol. can't do that for all of them, though. So… I feel like OP is not going to like what I think the real answer to this issue is… from what I remember, pure random chance can influence batting average and especially BABIP quite a bit within a single season. Hickman had a BABIP around 33 points higher than it was at any other point in his career and almost 60 points over his career numbers (which were pretty average). His other rate stats TBH aren’t insanely different in 1970 compared to other seasons. He just got a lot of hits on balls in play.
We of course don’t have in depth zone stats so there’s no real way of knowing his velo or LD%, of course, but it sure looks like… he got lucky for a season.

And Hickman gets credit for that lucky season in overall ratings when that season enters the rating base. Maybe he shouldn't. Just let the game's randomness give it to him.. or not.
