Cleveland Indians officially becoming the Cleveland Guardians
As a Clevelander, I was not a fan of them changing their name but I knew the name was going to change no matter how much people fought against it. This was my frontrunner for the new nickname, looking forward to seeing what the new logo will look like.

I kind of like the new logo, the rest of it looks the same other than the new nickname.

My grandmother (who was 100% Cherokee) loved the Cleveland Indians and I know she would be asking why they changed it. But like you said, they made the decision to change the nickname and no one could do anything about it. I am with you and kind of like the choice and the new logo looks pretty good, wish they had incorporated the Guardians statue faces from the bridges in it, but I will pick up a hat and a shirt when they are available.

I was shocked, but I... like it!
I've always had a soft spot for the team for some unknown reason, but ever since I realized who real indians were (long before social justice became a thing), I figured it'd go one day. Back then I would have thought they would have kept the native theme at least, but now, no, it had to go too. I'm a bit surprised they went with something so in right now with the Guardians of the Galaxy being what they are now and with every league that pops up nowadays seems to have a team called the Guardians, but it works. I wonder what the other finalists were. I'm glad they're keeping their colour scheme. EDIT: I didn't really like the Spiders name for a long time, but I know it was a favourite and it had been growing on me.

I heard that Spiders, Blues, Rockers and Foresters were some of the other finalists. I also heard that Guardians was the front runner right after they made the announcement that they were changing the name from Indians.

They could've been the Spiders. They blew it.

Rockers and Foresters are MiLB team names, not MLB

I saw someone in youtube comments say they should have been named the Erie as Cleveland is on lake Erie and it's named after a native tribe. That would have been cool and I love the double entendre of them being eerie like spooky. I also would have kind of liked to have seen them named the Wild Things. That was such a fun movie. My least favourite would have been Rockers. I know the history, but it's just stupid sounding.

Not to mention that was the name of the old WNBA team we had here. I am glad they did not use Rockers, all others would have been fine with me. Although I know I will call them Indians a lot just out of habit.

Eh. I was a fan of Spiders, but this isn't bad. I do like how the ball logo gives a nod to the guardian statues with the wings on each side of the ball - like how the statues have wings on each side of their heads.
Plus they were able to keep their same colors and the DIANS from Indians. ![]()

Heh, I was wondering what connection Tom Hanks has with Cleveland (he narrated the announcement video). As it turns out, he got his first acting break in Cleveland:

He visits Cleveland quite often, in fact about 3 or 4 years ago during my church's Greek Festival, he and his wife stopped in for dinner and I got the chance to meet and talk with them. Very down to earth people who took the time to take photos and talk with just about anyone who walked up to them. They both said they really love coming to Cleveland at least once a year, and he is a big Cleveland sports fan, and is good friends with Terry Francona so I am sure that helped in getting him to do the video.

I'm just mad they didn't name them after my Cleveland team of my fictional world...The Cleveland Crows winners of the 2090, 2125, and 2134 World Series.

The right move and a fine name, although I thought "Spiders" was better.
