Irrational things that trigger you in OOTP

Come one, come all!

Mine is this sequence of events:

- Team A is leading, say, 3-0 in the 8th.

- Team B mounts a comeback that gets exactly to 3-3. INEVITABLY they can’t push across that 4th run to take the lead (this is part one of the irrationality; I’ve seen them do this or fall short many, many times but I’m still triggered)

- We go to extra innings

- like, even if the score was 7-7 at the end of regulation, both pitchers suddenly turn into Tom damn Seaver. If I’ve left the starter in, they like strike out the side or something in the 11th (disclaimer: I do historical eras). What was once a high scoring game turns into, basically, a 0-0 tie for like 5 innings

- FINALLY someone wins but 80% of the time it’s the “wrong team”

Like I said, it’s irrational and I know it is. I even went so far as to look at the starter vs reliever decisions in my game compared to history and I found that in my save, starter are actually getting decisions more often (previous years, when the AI controlled things, it’s clearly not the case but this is about irrationality, not the fact that the game is sometimes bad with history), and although the game doesn’t really track this for you to see, I bet there’s no more extra inning shenanigans than there was IRL. But I still yell at my stupid computer when it happens because I am a very flawed person.

LOL. I'm irrational about so many things when it comes to playing out the games that no one has time to read my laundry list.

But I will mention a new one related to version 22.
I hate making "rules" for myself - both IRL and games like this - because I just find "good cause" to break them anyway.
So I've never used "house rules" when it comes to trades. In past versions, if a trade appeared too unfair or lopsided, I just wouldn't make it.
Along comes ootp22 with the trade slider. After some testing, I settle on level 8 (out of 10) figuring that will make thiings more difficult and I can always still pass on the occasional trade I think is unfair.

I want things to be realistic. Tough to make a deal or fleece the AI.
So what happens? Now I find myself dropping f-bombs and shouting things like "Are you kidding me? You still want ANOTHER prospect" or "It's never enough is it?" at the AI when it won't bend to my will.

Then I remind myself why I set the slider to 8 in the first place and calm down. Another glass of wine never hurts either.

That's probably my issue: not enough wine with my OOTP. Then again, I play a solid amount during the day when I'm between tasks or stumped by something at work and day drinking is the first path on the road to [s]being an awesome uncle[/s] alcoholism.

Not to make you shout again, but the trade slider has been in OOTP for awhile

What kills me is when a team proves to run a lot. So, next time a speedy player gets on first, I throw to first numerous times, to the point that my team's home crowd would be booing in the real world. 2-2 pitch, ball, runner goes, safe

Every. Time.

Whenever I bring a relief pitcher in with a man on 3rd (especially with 2 out) and he wild-pitches the run home.

There is no more unforgivable sin in my book.

[QUOTE=ezpkns34;4802907]Not to make you shout again, but the trade slider has been in OOTP for awhile

Really?

I've been playing WAY too many hours for the past five versions. Keep promising myself I'll take my life back tomorrow, but tomorrow comes and again I'm using virtually every free moment to play ootp.

So when each new version is released I quickly check out everything 'new'. But when 3 months have passed, I've long forgotten what was new and what already existed - and for how long.

I think the trade slider/difficulty was improved or expanded this version, wasn't it? Weren't the old settings much more simple.
I hope so, or else I'm drinking too much wine while I play. (evening games ONLY!)

Mine is not particular to OOTP per say as it is something that happens in real life baseball as well, but what grinds my gears is having runners in scoring position and having your #3,4 or 5 hitter striking out looking.
Swing the bat, man !

It's not just OOTP, but real-life baseball. It's when a grounder is hit to an infielder and he dives for it, and rather than hold onto the ball he throws it to first base. 90% of the time I see it, I know it's going to be an error.

Having said that, errors are a part of the game as they are in life. Nobody's perfect. What drives me crazy is mental errors. Throwing to the wrong base. Forgetting how many outs there are. Not hustling.

I had a 20, 15, and a 18 inning game on three days straight. Sometimes I swear the AI just says "Oh I see you're barely keeping that bullpen together with some string and a piece of gum... let's crank up the challenge shall we?"

Then again I'm the guy who constantly rants to himself that my team stinks and can do nothing *nothing* right... even when the team is on pace for 95-100 wins.

It'd be nice to have some reaction buttons. Like, thanks, laugh, agree, etc. Just positive stuff.

Yeah it's used to be something like EASY, NORMAL, HARD, but now it's 10 choices

Mine is happening right in my current save but seems to happen quite often in 22. I have 3 of my starting 5 on the DL with season ending arm injuries by April 1. Come on...

Injuries are WAY up in this version.

I would suggest turning the injuries down or off altogether, but the latter doesn't seem very realistic.

I only play out playoff games, and often seem to have something to be frustrated about. I only set myself to make substitutions, and leave everything else to the AI.

1. Inevitably guys that go for a base steal get thrown out the majority of the time, regardless of Stealing and Catcher Arm ratings. Vice versa for the AI.

2. Lights out relievers falling apart in the playoffs, year after year.

At this point I don't even think it's small sample size or confirmation bias, I have a set of stats to see these trends. Still love playing the game though, winning the World Series every year wouldn't be fun. It's nice to have highs and lows.

i think it's fair to say when we lose, the AI is definitely cheating... it is omnipotent!

8th or 9th inning of a no-hitter and defense doesn't make any effort to catch a ball.
