Prospect Series (1 prospect per person)
Do you like RPGs? Do you like baseball? I'm attempting to combine them with a point system applied to OOTP attributes. If you want to tell the story of a prospect going from high school to greatness in the company of others this thread is for you. We will be applying the point system to games played and your prospect will get better (and worse) based on results. Share the moments of victory and the bitter taste of defeat. Tell your story as you make it towards the bigs. Make friends with other prospects and intertwine your stories. Join a shared writing experience that will be like a play by forum baseball RPG.
I'm looking for players to create prospects in a game I run RPG style. If you're interested post a prospect or ask for help if you need it. The idea is I run 1-game every day and you get results and tell me how you spend your points. If you don't tell me on time I just spend your points for you. I'll try my best to follow the style of your character. If we can get a good number of prospects I'll run this. You are allowed to submit weekly plans for improvement if you'd prefer to not be active daily. I'd like players to be active at least weekly for story reasons. I may tune the character creation and point creation rules. I'd like to run a historical league so that we compete against real historical players. I'm thinking of starting in 1997 so we get out of high school in 2001. High school leagues will be no DH even if I need to set this manually. If things are calibrated correctly we should reach the majors quickly as this is intended to be a high power game. I will be running all prospects on the same high school team and controlling the game to make sure nothing too crazy happens. Once we reach the majors games will be simmed though. To make the player experience as good as possible please try not to create the same primary position as another player so that I'm not forced to bench prospects. I will allow multiple SP players. I also only allow one character per person and will be running a character myself. If you want to see how this works in practice you can check out my 1871 version here: https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...d.php?t=328549 Note: make sure to check the point rules here and not in that thread as I have made some changes. I've updated the hitting rules to allow for a greater range of outcomes. Pitchers have chances to get big games so I wanted to allow the same for hitters. I'll tune them if they aren't entirely successful. Right now I'm slightly concerned that very average days are slightly negative for hitters. Ex. 1 for 4, 0 R, 0 RBI, 0K, 0BB with a single is a -2 day. I think I'm alright with that because hitters can have huge positive days but it's a lot harder for them to have huge negative ones. Pitchers can get shelled for a lot of hits and walks to potentially have a -10 day or some such. Player Creation Rules Prospects have 1200 points to spend on personality. They have 50 in each injury rating. 40 in each batting rating. (Changed for Balance) 35 in 3 pitches (Changed this for balance) 35 in both movement and control 83-85 MPH starting speed. They get a choice of: 100 in a specific fielding group (infield, outfield or catcher) 75 in two groups 50 in all three groups They start 50 rated at 3 fielding positions which must include one per group taken above. In addition, prospects get 50 points to spend anywhere they like. They'll get 5 less each year until this goes to 0. After each game played prospects can gain or lose points according to the following: Day by day scoring rules Positive Records 5 points for setting 3 points for tying Negative Records -5 points for setting -3 points for tying Batting Hits: -1 points for 0, 1 point per hit Runs: -1 points for 0, 1 point per run RBIs: -1 points for 0, 1 point per run Total Bases: 0 points for 0-2. +1 point every 3 bases. Triples: 1 point per Triple HRs: 1 point per HR BB: 1 point per PA: -1 point for 6 PA, -1 point for 11PA Ks: -1 each Hit a DP: -1 each Hit a TP: -3 each Stolen Base: 1 point Caught Stealing: -1 point Fielding A fielding play is any play that your number is listed in the score. Example a 6-4-3 double play would credit the shortstop, second base and first base. 3 fielding plays: 1 point 2 additional plays: 1 point each two -1 point: Playing first base Double Play: 1 point each Triple Play: 3 points each Error: -1 point each Stolen Base on Catcher: -1 point each Throw out Stealing by Catcher: 1 point each Pitching as Starter ER: 3 points for 0, -1 point each Hits: 4 points for 0, -1 point each BB: 4 points for 0, -1 point each Hit By Pitch: 0 points for 0, -1 point eac Ks: -2 for 0-2, -1 for 3-5, 0 for 6-8, etc. Win: 1 point No Decision: 0 points Loss: -1 point 7th or later: 1 point (Changed to 0 points, Changed back to 1 point) 8th or later: 2 points (Changed to 1 point, Changed back to 2 points) Complete Game: 3 point (Changed to 2 points, Changed back to 3 points) Complete Game Shutout: Add 2 points No Hitter: Add 5 points Perfect Game: Add 10 points Extra Innings(10th or later): 1 point each Quality Start: 1 point Bad Start: -1 point Less than 5 innings: -3 points Less than 4 innings: -5 points Less than 3 innings: -10 points Less than 2 innings: -15 points Less than 1 inning: -20 points Pitching as Reliever BB/inning: 1 point for 0, -1 point each ER/inning: 1 point for 0, -1 point each Hits/inning: 1 point for 0, -1 point each K/inning: 1 point each Win: 1 point No Decision: 0 points Loss: -1 point Blown Save: -1 point Hold: 1 point Save: 1 point Awards 5 points per positive award. 1 point for player of the game Titles and Playoffs 5 points for being a division champion 5 points for winning a playoff series Max Ratings No ratings above 175 in high school No ratings above 200 in minor leagues Putting this in to ensure that there is still something left to do in the majors in terms of developing main stats. P.S. I plan on posting the main thread for the story in the Dynasty Reports section and will link it from here but didn't think that forum was appropriate for a sign-up thread. If there is a better location for this than General Discussions I'm fine with a Mod deciding to move it. P.P.S. I've bolded some numbers where I've made balance changes that affect the development speed of prospects. Last edited by LordTC; 05-25-2021 at 01:18 PM. |

Thread for Story
https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...d.php?t=328756 is the thread for the story. Feel free to add a backstory post for your prospect if you want to once they are approved. As you're starting as a freshman in high school back stories should mostly involve Little League and Senior League play.
We haven't agreed a location for which high school you'll play for yet but I can generate that shortly if it's needed for writing your backstories. Let me know in this thread (not in the story) if you have a strong preference for a starting city and I'll accommodate the majority preference. It's totally fine for your character to have moved at any point during their life so don't worry if you want to use another city for little and senior leagues. Joseph 'Giraffe' Leslee
I decided to make my prospect early since I wanted to make sure people had an example to look at if they wanted to create one.
Name: Joseph Leslee Nickname: Giraffe Country: USA City: Detroit, Michigan Birthday: April 21 Height: 205 (6 ft 9) Weight: 180 lbs Optional Short Bio: Joe grew up in motor city as it was in decline. He didn't know a different life but his parents did and eventually wanted out. After middle school, he moves to TBD_CITY and tries to fit in high school. He's never had the easiest time making friends but he's always been a natural on the diamond. Perhaps his new best friends will be teammates? Most think Joseph should have played basketball, the young man is a whopping 6ft9, which is where his Giraffe nickname comes from. His neck might be a little long but it's not that long. He prefers first base, but can play third the other corner in a pinch. He was an emergency reliever in little league and has kept up with his pitching a bit, although he only has fastballs of various types. He'll spend time on the mound if he has to but he doesn't really expect to. He's best at hitting for power, especially vs righties. This looks pretty interesting to me. I think I'd like to run a SP if possible. Are you planning on Detroit, MI then? I enjoy writing so I'd probably do some research to make things more realistic. Let me know if I can still join and where you run the league. I've never done anything with online yet.

Sound good. Do I use the batting numbers for him as well? Also, I may have just missed this, but they start in high school, but is it the beginning of their senior year or earlier?

Freshman year
We start as Freshman so we'll have 4 years in high school before the majors. University and JUCO systems are available if something goes horribly wrong in your development. You do need batting numbers as well but it's fine if you spend 0 points there.

Do height and weight need to be included? And can they increase as the kids mature?

Height and Weight
Yes, ideally you should add them. They will increase as kids mature but if you have a target height and weight in mind I'm willing to edit them back to that regularly if it means a lot to you.

Here goes...
This is my first shot at this, let me know if I missed something. I want to make a big hoss of a pitcher:
Name: Maximus Lawsom Nickname: Max Awesome Country: USA City: Dunnellon, Florida Birthday: November 5th Height: 5’9” (Ideal 6’2”) Weight: 168 Lbs (Ideal 227) Optional Short Bio: Maximus, or Max for short grew up all his life in a small central Florida city where he was extremely popular. He is a four sport star, playing PG for the basketball team, QB for the football team, golf, and of course SP/LF for his baseball team. He is a throwback pitcher whose arm never seems to tire. His parents own over ten acres of farmland, so Max was almost always outside as a kid. The neighborhood was full of other kids his age that also loved sports. After school, they’d play every sport out there. During the summers, his grandfather would take him golfing three times a week while his parents worked. He developed great discipline and was a low handicap player by the time he started high school. Although he pitches right handed, he bats left handed. His grandfather was a left handed golfer and taught him to hit from that side where he feels more comfortable. Personality Leadership Ability: 220 Desire for Winner: 1 Loyalty: 59 Greed: 1 Work Ethic:199 Intelligence: 50 Adaptability: 119 Controversy: 1 Handle Success: 200 Handle Failure: 150 Handle Critics: 200 Injury Ratings Overall Proneness: 50 Back Proneness: 50 Leg Proneness: 50 Arm Proneness: 50 Batting BABIP(LHP): 40 BABIP(RHP): 40 Avoid Ks(LHP): 40 Avoid Ks(RHP): 40 Contact(LHP): 40 Contact(RHP): 40 Gap(LHP): 40 Gap(RHP): 40 Power(LHP): 40 Power(RHP): 40 Eye/Patience(LHP): 40 Eye/Patience(RHP): 40 Getting HBP: 0 Triple Ratio: .000 Other Offensive Ratings Groundball Tendency: Normal Flyball Tendency: Normal Running Speed: 100 Stealing Ability: 100 Baserunning Skills: 100 Sacrifice Bunting: 35 Bunting for Hit: 35 Pitching Ratings Stamina: 130 (30 points spent here) Holding Runners: 100 Velocity: 93 MPH (10 points spent) Arm Slot: Over the Top Fastball: 43 (8 Points spent) Sinker: 0 Cutter: 0 Curveball: 35 Slider: 0 Changeup: 0 Splitter: 0 Forkball: 37 (2 points spent) Circle Change: 0 Screwball: 0 Knuckle Curve: 0 Knuckleball: 0 R/L Split: You Choose Movement(LHB): 35 Movement(RHB): 35 Control(LHB): 35 Control(RHB): 35 Hit Batsman: 1 Wild Pitches: 3 Balks: 0 Groundout %: 71 Defensive Ratings Infield Range: 100 Infield Error: 100 Infield Arm: 100 Turn Double Plays: 100 Catcher Ability: 0 Catcher Arm: 0 Outfield Range: 100 Outfield Error: 100 Outfield Arm: 100 Position Ratings Pitcher: 50 Catcher: 0 First Base: 0 Second Base:0 Third Base: 0 Shortstop: 0 Left Field: 50 Center Field: 0 Right Field: 50 |

Cool Let me check a few things
If you choose both infield and outfield your fielding ratings will start at 75, not at 100. This is largely to prevent people from having a huge set of ratings for dumping (starting in the outfield gives you 3 extra ratings compared to not so the total points you get is more).
Groundout starts at a maximum of 64% unless you spend points on it. Likewise hit batsman starts at 6, wild pitches start at 5, and balks start at 3. Personality Ratings are out of 200 so you have 20 points extra in leadership you can distribute to other ratings. Everything else looks good. For your height and weight given the difference between your start and ideals just let me know what you want each season at the start of the year and I'll adjust it manually. For nickname have you considered subtracting the Max? I think it sounds better to be Maximus 'Awesome' Lawsom, than Maximus 'Max Awesome' Lawsom. Up to you of course. Storywise, I'd love to know why you ended up as Maximus instead of something like Maximillian. Perhaps your father is a Latin buff? Maybe your family traces its lineage to ancient Rome? Lastly, are you hoping we play in Dunnellon, Florida or is Max Awesome going to deal with moving away from friends and family too? Quote:

I'm not set on Dunnellon, but I grew up there myself and now I teach there. It'd be pretty cool since we are a small school and I graduated in 97 myself. We've always had a competitive baseball team, and around that time we had a Little League group that fed to the high school that had a lot of talented guys. Most went on to play other sports though... anyhow, I think I have this fixed up now. Hope this league happens... I'm off for summer soon and this seems like a good thing to keep me occupied. Let me know what you think of the changes and if I got it right now.
Name: Maximus Lawsom Nickname: Awesome Country: USA City: Dunnellon, Florida Birthday: November 5th Height: 5’9” (Ideal 6’2”) Weight: 168 Lbs (Ideal 227) Optional Short Bio: Maximus, or Max for short grew up all his life in a small central Florida city where he was extremely popular. He was named after his mother’s favorite Marvel Comic Character, Maximus. As a child, she loved comics but her family grew up impoverished so the only books she read were hand-me-downs from her three older brothers. None of them liked the Maximus storylines that began in Fantastic Four, but his mother, Daphne, took a liking to his super human intelligence. Although she hoped Maximus would excel in school, he was never the best academically. His father, David grew up on a farm and inherited his family’s acreage when his parents passed after he served four years as a Marine. He had planned to re-enlist, but his family business took him away from his ambitions. He always threw himself into his work and is a tall, strong man with a hardened work ethic. He is a four sport star, playing PG for the basketball team, QB for the football team, golf, and of course SP/RP for his baseball team. He is a throwback pitcher whose arm never seems to tire. He has a gun for an arm at such a young age due to all the hard work he’s put in helping on the farm. His parents own over 100 acres of farmland, so Max was almost always outside as a kid. The neighborhood was full of other kids his age that also loved sports. After school, they’d play every sport out there. During the summers, his maternal grandfather would take him golfing three times a week while his parents worked (His mom teaches Psychology at the high school he goes to.) I'll let you give up two infield positions to start 75 rated at Pitcher instead of 50 rated if that's what you want. Everything else matches the rules perfectly.
Since you've got the only posted prospect other than mine we'll play in Dunnellon, Florida for High School. I'll edit the TBD city in my backstory to that, and I'll move the nearest team there when I create the high school league. Quote:

Awesome, that sounds great. I can help you with other high schools in the area to make it realistic if you like... Dunnellon Tigers are our nickname.
The other main area schools near us are Vanguard Knights, Forest Wildcats, Belleview Rattlers, North Marion Colts, West Port Wolves, Williston Red Devils, Crystal River Pirates, Citrus Cyclones, and Weeki Watchee Hornets are the ones I recall in our District/County to start. I can give you more details about them if you care to know. |
