Alternate History Baseball RPG
I run likely one prospect at a time starting in high school at 14. The league starts in 1871 and proceeds forwards year-by-year. It will be historical prospects + feeder leagues.
Currently a Junior in High School Prospects have 1200 points to spend on personality. They have 50 in each injury rating. 35 in each batting rating. 35 in 6 pitches. 83-85 MPH starting speed. They get a choice of: 100 in a specific fielding group (infield, outfield or catcher) 75 in two groups 50 in all three groups They start 50 rated at 3 fielding positions which must include on per group taken above. In addition, prospects get 50 points to spend anywhere they like. They'll get 5 less each year until this goes to 0. After each game played prospects can gain or lose points according to the following: Batting Hits: -1 points for 0, 1 point per hit Runs: -1 points for 0, 1 point per run RBIs: -1 points for 0, 1 point per run HRs: 1 point per HR BB: 1 point per PA: -1 point for 5 PA, -1 point for 9PA Ks: -1 each Hit a DP: -1 each Hit a TP: -3 each Fielding 3 fielding plays: 1 point 2 additional plays: 1 point each group Double Play: 1 point each Triple Play: 3 points each Error: -1 point each Pitching as Starter ER: 3 points for 0, -1 point each Hits: 5 points for 0, -1 point each (Changed to 4 points for 0, Changed back to 5 points for 0, Changed to 4 points for 0) BB: 5 points for 0, -1 point each (Changed to 4 points for 0, Changed back to 5 points for 0, Changed to 4 points for 0) Hit By Pitch: 0 points for 0, -1 point each (Added with changes) Ks: -2 for 0-2, -1 for 3-5, 0 for 6-8, etc. (Changed to lower all categories by 1 point) Win: 1 point No Decision: 0 points Loss: -1 point 7th or later: 1 point (Changed to 0 points, Changed back to 1 point) 8th or later: 2 points (Changed to 1 point, Changed back to 2 points) Complete Game: 3 point (Changed to 2 points, Changed back to 3 points) Complete Game Shutout: Add 3 points No Hitter: Add 5 points Perfect Game: Add 10 points Extra Innings(10th or later): 1 point each Quality Start: 1 point Bad Start: -1 point Less than 5 innings: -3 points Less than 4 innings: -5 points Less than 3 innings: -10 points Less than 2 innings: -15 points Less than 1 inning: -20 points Pitching as Reliever BB/inning: 1 point for 0, -1 point each ER/inning: 1 point for 0, -1 point each Hits/inning: 1 point for 0, -1 point each K/inning: 1 point each Win: 1 point No Decision: 0 points Loss: -1 point Blown Save: -1 point Hold: 1 point Save: 1 point For all categories, tying a positive record is worth 3 points, and setting a positive record is worth 5 points. Tying a negative record is worth -3 points and setting a negative record is worth -5 points. I know this system isn't really fair to relievers but it's the best I can do to prevent exploits. The low inning starts system ensures that you can't get a good performance by facing 1 batter then lifting. (0ER, 0BB, 0Hits,1K for instance is a +13 day, but has a -20 penalty attached). The abilities that seem to stack are exclusive so you only get one of complete game, 8th or later, 7th or later, etc. I like to create multi-position prospects for instance a pitcher who hits and plays SS on days when they don't pitch. Because the stamina system punishes this too heavily, it will be turned off. This means pitchers still get tired, but position players do not. Injuries go up when a player gets injured. Ratings can be lowered by spending points. Injuries will be set to low initially due to the limited supply of players in the early years. This may increase as the league goes on. I'll follow the leagues I'm in as well as the major league each year. I'll also follow my alma matter in the HS league. All prospects will play for the same high school team, so we'll have a bit of lineage there. Last edited by LordTC; 05-24-2021 at 02:59 PM. Reason: Added some changes |

Armen 'Harlem' Donahue
Not many are nicknamed for where they are from, but Harlem Donahue wears his upbringing with a badge of pride. He carried a weak kids team to victory in their league finals before throwing out his left shoulder. He wasn't done with the game and switched to throwing right-handed for high school.

They really needed a pitcher to back up their great hitting talent. Stearns was available but fell to Washington at 27. The remaining pitching option is Mathews who scouts at 20/71. 28th Overall: George Bechtel, RF, to Washington 29th Overall: John Hatfield, RHRP, to Troy Scary moment for Cleveland as someone takes another pitcher. 30th Overall: Joe Start, 1B to Boston 31st Overall: Dick Higham, C, to Chicago 32nd Overall: Chipper Flynn RF, to New York 33rd Overall: Bobby Mathews, RHP, to Cleveland 34th Overall: John Radcliff, SS, to Fort Wayne 35th Overall: Ed Pinkham, RF, to Rockford 36th Overall: Everett Mills, 1B, to Philadelphia 37th Overall: Steve King, LF, to Philadelphia 38th Overall: Joe McDermott, RHRP, to Rockford 39th Overall: Harry Schafer, 3B, to Fort Wayne 40th Overall: Bill Craver, C, to Cleveland 41st Overall: Fergy Malone, C, to New York 42nd Overall: Chick Fulmer, SS, to Chicago The young shortstop was still on the board. I would have taken him as Cleveland since Barnes can play 2nd base as his natural position. Still Chicago gets a talented young player. 43rd Overall: Doug Allison, C, to Boston 44th Overall: Gat Stires, RF, to Troy 45th Overall: Bob Ferguson, 2B, to Washington 46th Overall: Fred Treacey, CF, to Washington Great wheel for Washington as they pick up a power hitting CF and a versatile infielder. Both are relatively young at 23 and 25. 47th Overall: Count Sensenderfer, CF, to Troy 48th Overall: John Bass, SS, to Boston Questionable pick as Flowers is 2 years younger and nearly as good. 49th Overall: Ned Cuthbert, LF, to Chicago 50th Overall: Tom York, LF, to New York A steal for new york as York is a young talent. 51st Overall: Denny Mack, SS, to Cleveland Denny Mack is more naturally a 1st-baseman so this pick makes some sense with Barnes at short. He's a huge liability as a defender, so I really hope this isn't a shortstop pick with Barnes moving to 2B. 52nd Overall: Dickie Flowers, SS, to Fort Wayne It's a steal for him to go this late. 53rd Overall: Tom J Carey, 2B, to Rockford 54th Overall: Charlie Hodes, C, to Philadelphia 55th Overall: Art Allison, CF, to Philadelphia Philly picks up a talented young CF on the wheel. 56th Overall: Steve Bellan, CF, to Rockford We might see a bit of a run on young talented CF's here. Bellan is another player in that mould. 57th Overall: Charlie Gould, RF, to Fort Wayne 58th Overall: Jim Foran, LF, to Cleveland Cleveland is starting to raise questions about who goes where. If Denny Mack is on 1st base, then Foran is in LF. That means Pike can play RF, they should want to keep his left handed throwing out of the infield. 59th Overall: John Glenn, RF, to New York 60th Overall: Frank Sellman, C, to Chicago 61st Overall: Al Reach, RF, to Boston Al Reach is talented but in the 30 and over club. The more talented player falls as youth means shoring up a position for 10+ years to come. 62nd Overall: Charlie Pabor, LF, to Troy 63rd Overall: Dave Birdsall, C, to Washington 64th Overall: Tom J Foley, C, to Washington Foley plays all the outfield positions as well so these picks aren't wasted. 65th Overall: George Bird, CF, to Troy 66th Overall: Tommy Beals, 2B, to Boston Beals another talented youngster, slips to Boston. 67th Overall: Charlie Mills, C, to Chicago 68th Overall: Jim Carleton, 1B, to New York 69th Overall: Bob Addy, 2B, to Cleveland We'll end our coverage there as no yellow-rated players under 30 remain. Brooklyn High School Game #2
Welcome to 1871 where pitchers don't get tired. I'm good to go after throwing a bunch yesterday. It's a rematch of Donahue vs Kallas.
Full count, Jaime singles to LF. Full count, Meiman pops out 4 in RF. Mitchell finds the hole in the right infield for a base hit. Hernandez hits a 6-4-3 to end the half inning. Donahue opens with a 3-pitch strikeout of Coonrod. He means business today. Gets Dodge on 3-pitches as well. McCall singles to center-right. Meiman had no play. He gets the next ball as Land pop flies 6. Peloquin singles to CF. Kraft hits a 3-4 ball but no relay. Roback, full count, hard hit ball, pop fly 7. Flaherty singles past the third baseman. Donahue, pop fly 8. Another 2-runner inning without scoring. Becker 1-pitch 6-3. Mankin, we didn't see him yesterday. Single to LF. Alosi 3-U. Full count to Cunningham, lost him. Kallas, swing and a miss. Still 0-0. Pop fly 7 for Jaime. Meiman doubles to right field from a full count. Mitchell pop fly 8, not good enough for a sac. Hernandez 2-outs reaches on a fielding error by the SS. Peloquin is out 4-3 so it doesn't cost them. The Bengals have stranded 6 so far. Still scoreless. Coonrod, early on a changeup for strike 3. Dodge lines out 1. Donahue unphased. 6-3 for McCall. Kraft pop fly 9. Roback pop fly 8. Flaherty down swinging. Less offense his time as they go 1-2-3. Land the cleanup hits a high fly ball to deep center. Warning track. Caught. Is Donahue shaken by that? He walks Becker on 4-pitches. Gets Mankin to fly out 8. Alosi hits a 5-4 ball to end the inning. Donahue bats 3-U. Jaime singles to LF. Meiman full count, takes one to deep center, warning track, caught. Wild pitch. Full count to Mitchell 5-3. Another untaken opportunity. Cunningham out 5-3. He fans Kallas again. This time with a knuckleball. Coonrod walks on 5 pitches. Dodge full count, strike 3 taken. That call could have gone either way, what a difference it makes. Top of the 6th still scoreless. Pop fly 7 for Hernandez. Pop fly 9 for Peloquin. Kraft finds the hole in the left infield. Roback, full count, single to CF. Runners on the corners to Flaherty who is not having a good day so far. SINGLE TO CF. They break the deadlock with an RBI. Donahue adds insurance with a full count RBI-single. Jaime is out from a full count, 3-1. McCall out 6-3. Strikeout on Land, got him to chase one. Becker pop fly 9. Single past Coonrod for Meiman. Looped to short center, caught. Mitchell is out. Hernandez singles to LF. Peloquin 1 for 3, single to CF. Bases loaded for Kraft. Big strikeout. Roback singles for 1-RBI. Flaherty singles to RF for 2 more. Donahue will fly out 9 to end the inning. But it's 5-0 Harlem. Donahue gets his 20th strikeout of the year on Mankin. They get Alosi 5-3. Cunningham takes strike 3 looking. Jaime works a full count but is out 4-3. Meiman with a single to LF. Mitchell full count, single over the SS. Wild pitch. Full count to Hernandez. Slow grounder, all-safe. Credit the RBI. Peloquin full count as well. That breaking ball didn't break. Peloquin goes yard. Kraft doubles to LF. Roback adds a triple to center-right. Flaherty singles up the middle for another RBI. Donahue adds to it with a single to the hole in the right infield. Jaime hits a 4-6-3 double play. Sits Kallas down with a fastball. Coonrod, full count, check swing, no he went around. Dodge pop fly 4. Meiman pop flies 3. Mitchell single to CF. Hernandez pop fly 6. Peloquin single to CF. Kraft RBI-single to RF. Roback line out 8. They aren't thinking miracle, but no one wants to get shut out. McCall pop fly 9. Land strikes out. Donahue ties the record for strikeouts. Becker doubles. 3-pitch swinging strikeout on Mankin. That ends the game. Donahue has a 3-hit 3-BB complete game shutout striking out 13. Kallas gets shelled for 12 ER. Pitching 3 Hits: 2 points 3 BB: 2 points 0 ER: 3 points Complete Game: 3 points CG Shutout: 2 points Quality Start: 1 point Win: 1 point Batting 2 for 5: 1 point 1 RBI: 0 points 0 Runs: -1 point A 14-point day for Armen Donahue. Balance Changes
Changed to 4 points instead of 5 for hits and BB's from this point forward. I'm used to big offense in high school games and was expecting pitchers to give up a lot. I also lowered by 1-point the bonus for going late.

Houston HS Game #1
Dyals is also 2-0 but has a 4.08 ERA. I'll face him as we play Houston at home.
Fernandes is hit by a change-up. Riggs takes strike 3. 4-pitch walk to Swezey. 6-4-3, the clean-up hitter De Stantis hits into a double play. Jaime works a full count but is an easy 6-3 out. Meiman also hits a grounder, fielded at short. Mitchell beats the 3rd baseman for a single. Hernandez pop fly 9. Bennett swings at a knuckleball outside for strike 3. Hauck is swinging for strike 3 as well. Sloan swings at an outside pitch and grounds it to the second baseman. He's out 4-3. Peloquin works a full count and grounds one near the mound. 1-3 in time. Kraft behind 0-2, thrown out 5-3. Roback lines out LF. Dyals down on 3-pitches, he swings at the last one. Lillegard, full count, strike 3 swinging. Fernandes takes strike 3. Nasty knuckleball. Donahue strikes out the side. Flaherty singles to the gap in the right infield. Donahue gets behind 0-2 but finds that same gap. Jaime pop fly 9 not deep enough. Meiman singles to RF good for the go-ahead run. Mitchell, grounder to short, he doesn't have a throw. Load the bases. Hernandez pop fly 6. Peloquin hit by pitch to score a run. Kraft out 3-U. 2 runs on 4 hits the Bengals lead 2-0. Riggs called strike 3. Swezey 4-3. De Santis 6-3. Roback is aboard with a liner to shallow left. Flaherty flies out to left. Donahue, full count, single to left. Jaime has an RBI-double. Meiman adds a 2-RBI single to CF. Mitchell is beaned. Fernandes gets Hernandez at first, but can't turn the double play. Score that 3-U. Full count to Peloquin, the pitch is outside, but at perfect height. He swings and lines it to center right for a 2-run double. Add a tapper near the mound for a single as Kraft beats a 1-3 throw. Roback full count pop fly 8. The Bengals bat around and score 5. Pop fly 9 for Bennett. Off speed pitch strikes out Hauck. Full count to Sloan, pop fly 6. Dyals is tired and lifts for Wallace. They get Flaherty 4-3. Donahue full count. He crushes a breaking ball that doesn't break. That's his first HR. Jaime lines out 7. 1-2 pitch, doubled to RF for Meiman. Single past short for Mitchell. He gets the RBI. Hernandez pop fly 2. The clean-up still hitless. They get out of the inning but it's 9-0. Wallace 4-3. Lillegard, full count, lost him. Fernandes, 5-4-3, doubled up. Peloquin, full count, 5-3. Kraft sits down 6-3. Roback, full count, 6-3. They get a 1-2-3 and need some offense. 5-3 goes Riggs. Swezey breaks up the no-hitter. He doubles to RF. Single to LF for DeSantis. Runners on the corners. 1-out. Big at bat for Bennett. Full count. Single to left field, with the RBI. No back-to-back shutout for Harlem. Hauck works a full count as well. He lines out 9. Sloan full count, takes strike 3. Flaherty lines out 9. Donahue down 1-2, pop fly 9. Jaime is out 1-3. Wallace full count, down swinging. They've made it their mission to force Donahue out of the game.. Single to LF for Lillegard. Fernandes strikes out swinging. Riggs overmatched thus far, 2 strikeouts, trailing 1-2. He lines out 9. There will be one last inning, but first the Bengals. Meiman has an infield hit. Mitchell full count, 3-4 but no relay. Hernandez full count, 0 for 4 this game. He hits a double down the left field line. Hitless no more, and credit the RBI. Peloquin grounds out 6-3 without advancing the runner. Kraft has an infield single that pulls the third baseman off the bag and lets the runner advance. Full count to Roback, he singles through the hole in left. Credit the RBI. Add another run, Flaherty safe at 1st on error. Donahue, full count, hard hit ball. ANOTHER HR. Pitchers aren't supposed to do this. They get Jaime 5-3. But Harlem puts up 6 and it's 15-1. Can Donahue finish the game? Swezey has a double. He gets hit by pitch. That looked like an accident. DeSantis is out 6-4. 5-pitch strikeout to Bennett. Armen can't face that many more batters. Hauck lines out 9. That's your ballgame as the Bengals take it 15-1. Pitching 4 hits: 0 points 2 BB: 2 points 2 hit by pitch: -2 points 12 strikeouts: 3 points 1 ER: 2 points Complete Game: 2 points Quality Start: 1 point Win: 1 point Hitting 4 for 5: 2 points 4 R: 3 points 4 RBI: 3 points A huge 17-point day for Armen. Houston HS Game #2
Donahue vs Dyals, the rematch. Donahue is tired but still going. He may have to lift this game.
Fernandes is out 6-3. Riggs is out trying to stretch a double into a triple. Big throw by Mitchell to get him. The no-hitter is gone early but the shutout still in play. Swezey singles past the third baseman. Strike 3 swinging on De Santis. Could have been 1-0 if he stayed at 2nd, instead still scoreless. Jaime fly ball to left, easy out. Meiman hard liner right at CF. Mitchell singles to LF. Hernandez sat down with a circle change. Bennett whiffs on a knuckle curve. Hauck walks on 5. Sloan hits a 6-4 ball. No turn is made. Swing and a miss for Dyals, again that knuckle curve. 40th strikeout of the season for Donahue. Peloquin singles on a liner to right. Kraft hits the hole in right to single and put runners on the corners. Hernandez beats the 3rd baseman for an RBI-single. Kraft holds at 2nd. Flaherty hits a 3-4-3 double play. Donahue attempts to score craft. Pop up foul to the catcher, dropped. Second chance, strikeout swinging. But it's still 1-0 Bengals. Lillegard, 6-3. Fernandes, 5-3. Riggs, full count, ball four. Swezey makes the SS eat the ball for a single. DeSantis swing and a miss on an outside pitch. Jaime lines out to left. Meiman to deep right-center, caught by 9. Mitchell gets one down in left field. It rattles in the corner. That's a triple. Hernandez will score him with a single to RF. Peloquin finds a gap in left field for a single. Kraft, high fly ball, no wall as it's caught by the CF. We start and bat 9th facing Matt Brinson. Brinson is a solid 2-2 with a 4.55 ERA and 1.38 WHIP. We're better but it should be a good game.

That's the inning. Donahue fans. Jaime Ks. Meiman single past short. Mitchell down 1-2 clobbers one. 3-0 Bengals. Rene Hernandez strikeout, passed ball, 2-3. Brinson single to CF. Roster Changes
I make some roster changes league-wide as the 1-man rotation is not working for pitcher stamina with the daily schedule. We're now a 3-starter, 7-reliever, 23 man roster league. I've added new players automatically. This year I'm just a starting pitcher and won't get time at shortstop as my bat is nowhere near good enough. I'm also changing back the nerfs I made after the hot start. I think the original version is actually fair.

Loss 3-6.
Win 2-0. I had something misconfigured so I got some pitching time during the 3-6 loss. I don't have the boxscore so I unfortunately can't score that game for me. Sorry about that. Last edited by LordTC; 05-12-2021 at 07:41 PM. |

Columbus HS Game #1 and Game #2
R Hernandez hits for the cycle and Roche has a 7-hit 0-BB 3-K shutout as we win 18-0.
Unfortunately we lose the 2nd game, 7-8 in 10 innings. Barela has an awful start giving up 7 runs and Jemison gets tagged for the walkoff run. |

San Jose HS Game #1
I'm 7-0 with a 1.31 ERA and a 0.94 WHIP. Aaron Koeneman is 3-4 with a 4.22 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP. We take on San Jose in San Jose.
Jaime sits down 3-U. Meiman Ks. Mitchell pop flies to 3. 1-2-3 go the Bengals. Full count, down swinging. MacIntosh fooled by that knuckle curve. After a perfect game it's always interesting how long it keeps going. In this case only 1 batter as Gibbs singles to CF. Batista down swinging. Fisher doubles, but is out trying to get to 3rd, the run scores at the plate. 1-0 San Jose. Rene Hernandez down 0-2. He singles up the middle. 13 game hit streak for him. Peloquin full count, league leader in RBI. He has a double to right center, but the runner stops at 3rd. Kraft has an RBI-groundout 6-3 to tie the game. Roback full count, E-6. Flaherty full count, sac fly to 8. Donahue sends a 2-2 pitch down the 3rd baseline he's out 5-3. But Harlem leads 2-1. 3-U for Barrett. Pop fly 7 for Luke. 4-3 for Guerber, bobbled and recovered by 2B. Jaime out 6-3. Meiman single to the hole in left. Mitchell line out 7. R Hernandez 4-3. Linton is a 3-pitch strikeout. Flaherty full count 4-3, advances the runner. Donahue to the plate. 2 outs. Almost any hit will score a run. 3-U. 3-1 Bengals. Gibbs lines out 7. Gets Batista on pitch 5. Fisher hits a slow ball towards the gap but the 3rd baseman gets there, throw to third is a bang-bang play but they get him 5-3. Another 1-2-3 for the Paladins. Jaime has a leadoff double to the left corner. 13 game hit streak for him. Meiman 5-3 doesn't advance the runner. Mitchell is 0-2. He hits a 3-U advancing the runner from a full count pitch. R Hernandez wants an RBI-hit. He makes contact but it's right to the shortstop, 6-3. Strike 3 looking on Barrett. Luke dives out of the way of a curveball but still gets nicked. Big double for Guerber. No run as they stop Luke at 3rd. Linton chases for strike 3. The pitcher tries to help his cause, and sort of does. He'll reach on a 2-base throwing error by 3rd baseman. Both runners score. Macintosh forces 2B to eat one. A tapper means Gibbs is out 2-3. We're knotted at 3. Peloquin singles to left. It falls in for Kraft, runners on 1st and 2nd. Roback looks to improve on his RBI-double last at bat. Instead he hits a 6-4-3 double play. Flaherty has the leading run on 3rd. It's an RBI-single to right. 13 game hit streak for him too. Donahue hits one hard, it's back to deep center, caught. Batista gets hit by an 0-2 pitch. Fisher gets hit by a 1-2 pitch. Barett takes strike 3. Luke swings and misses on a knuckleball. Peloquin, down 0-2, chases and misses. They strand 2 runners in scoring position but Harlem still leads 4-3. 5-pitch walk for Linton. Knuckle curve for strike 3 on Koeneman. Pop fly 7 goes MacIntosh. Gibbs will line out 9. Kraft singles past short. Roback is out 5-3. Flaherty out 4-3 advancing the runner. Donahue gets the ball down in CF, credit the RBI. Full count for Jaime, infield single to third base. Donahue scores on an RBI-Double to left for Meiman. Mitchell adds a 2-RBI single. Rene Hernandez singles and Mitchell takes 3rd. Peloquin has a full count, but hits it right at the 2nd baseman, 4-3. BIG INNING. It's now 8-3 Harlem. Batista is out 4-3. Fisher is a strikeout victim. Barrett full count. Takes. It's a strike. Kraft pop fly foul 2. Roback infield single to short. Flaherty gets one past the CF for a double. Credit the RBI. Donahue full count, pop fly 5. Jaime pop fly 8. 9-3 Harlem. Donahue hits Luke his control hasn't been great this game. Guerber full count, pop fly 9. Linton chases inside for strike 3. Donahue is one off tying the record. He has 13 strikeouts. Pop fly 8 for Koeneman as they don't bother pinch hitting. Harlem takes it 9-3. Donahue has a 1 ER, 13 K, 4-hit, 1-BB complete game. A solid 83 performance. But he beaned 4 batters this game. I'm surprised they didn't think it was intentional. Game #1 vs Charlotte HS
It's a cold Josh Kallas vs a hot Armen Donahue. Kallas has an interesting 6.66 ERA and 1.78 WHIP. Donahue now at 1.27 ERA with 0.89 WHIP.

Strikeout on a knuckleball for Kallas. 1-2-3 for the White Sox. Kraft flies out 7. Roback lines out 8. Flaherty single to RF. Donahue takes strike 3. Coonrood thought that pitch was outside, but it's strike 3. Dodge singles to right. Gone is the no-hitter. Mankin gets clipped on a 0-2 pitch. Land strikes out on 3 pitches. Becker down swinging on pitch 5. Jaime full count, pop fly 8. Meiman 6-3 but close. Mitchell single to CF. Rene Hernandez is out 6-4, but that runner looked safe, maybe he overslid the bag? Alosi, tapper, out 2-3. Cunningham down on strikes. Prewitt, 3-pitch strikeout. Peloquin, E-5 he reaches. Kraft 6-4, no relay. Single to CF for Roback. Kraft takes third. Flaherty has an RBI-single as Roback takes third. Donahue lines out 4. Jaime full count, infield single to the SS, credit the RBI. 15 game hit streak for him. Single to CF with an RBI for Meiman. Jaime on 2nd base. Mitchell lines out 8. Big inning for Harlem 9-0 now. Strike 3 looking on a full count pitch for Kallas. Fastball outside, Coonrod down swinging. He gets the hell out of Dodge with a 3-pitch strikeout. Dodge down swinging. That ties the record with 14 strikeouts and it's only the 6th. Rene Hernandez flies out to left. Peloquin flies out to center. Kraft lines out to right. A bit of an air show but 1-2-3 go the Bengals. Mankin takes revenge for being hit with a nice double to right center. Land out 4-3 advancing the runner. Big strikeout to keep the shutout. That's also the conference record with 15. Now they need a hit to score. Alosi walks on 4 pitches. Cunningham walks on 5. Suddenly a bases loaded jam. Prewitt puts the ball in play. He singles past a diving shortstop. Just 1 scores but the shutout is gone. Kallas is out 4-3. They break the shutout. It's 9-1 Bengals. Roback downed 1-3. Flaherty a very close double to RF. Donahue has a sac fly to center. Jaime, full count, down swinging. A hit but nothing else for the Bengals. Full count Coonrod, he swings at a slider that misses the plate. 16 fanned this game for Donahue. A real special performance. 1-3 throw on Dodge, he's safe. Mankin walks on 5. Land takes strike 3 on pitch 3. 5-3 for Becker. Still 9-1. Meiman leadoff double to left. 10th double of the season for him. Mitchell, full count, batting 3 for 4 today. He pop flies to 6. Rene Hernandez single to CF, not deep enough to score Meiman. Peloquin gets the ball down in right field, that does the job. Rene on 2nd. Kraft, hitless, RBI single to CF. Roback loades the bases with a full count single to CF. Flaherty is 4 for 4 today, he wants to keep the drive going. 4-6-3 double play. They stop the bleeding. 11-1 Bengals. The White Sox need a miracle. It won't start with Alosi who is out 6-3. Cunningham keeps their hopes alive with a nice double to left. Prewitt out 2-3 on a squibbed ball. Cunningham takes third. Hensley the pinch hitter. Down swinging. The new record is 18 strikeouts! That's 2 out of 3 outs. Harlem Donahue is your player of the game. He has another complete game, this time a 5-hit 1-ER 3-BB, and 18-K performance. He also hit Mankin. Pitching 5-hit: 0 points 3-BB: 2 points 1 hit by pitch: -1 point 1 ER: 2 points 18 K: 5 points Complete Game: 3 points Quality Start: 1 point Win: 1 point Hitting 1 for 4: 0 points 1 R: 0 points 0 RBI: -1 points 1 K: -1 points 11-point day for Donahue. Movement LHB 67->73 Movement RHB 68->73 The scouting report thus far on Harlem is that he shows potential. He has world-beating stuff with some of the fastest pitches ever seen and a nice diverse arsenal. Unfortunately, he lacks movement and control to play in the majors. This is the movement era, almost every pitcher has 255 movement in the majors. Control numbers are as high as 180. There is a big gap from high school to the pros. If only someone had invented some sort of minor league system so that players had a place to play before the bigs. Lacking that Armen will have to improve a lot in high school even though he's already good. |

Charlotte HS Game #2 and Houston HS Game #1
We lose 2-5 to Charlotte. And 4-5 to Houston in 11. It's not much consolation that Meiman is player of the week. At 12-7 we have a 2-game lead in the conference over Columbus. But games feel like inches when we're on a losing streak.
