Whom do I contact for a refund?
I would like to purchase the game this year through Steam instead of Mindspring. I attempted to request a refund as per the instructions on the refund page but the link to submit a support ticket appears to be dead.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

![]() Anyway, for a refund you can just send an email to support@ootpdevelopments.com That will automatically open a ticket. If you can include your order number, or at very least the email you used when placing the order, that will help us issue the refund faster.

Lukas, thanks for the quick reply. ![]() Yeah, I'm getting the dreaded "Sorry, the page you have requested was not found" message when I click the link. It's probably just Firefox being Firefox. Even with Ublock Origin and Privacy Badger disabled there are still some links that never seem to work for me. Thanks for the help.

In terms of the game itself, none. It's mainly to avoid any possible future licensing hassles and to continue the trend of keeping all of my installed PC games in one centralized location.

Hate to correct you on this, but the Steam version has replaced "Add-ons Central" with "Steam Workshop" for mods.

I forgot about that. That's actually a good thing IMO because Add-ons central can be a big mess. It's easier to find the mods the you want in the Steam Workshop. In addition, I forgot to mention you can get auto-updates for both the game itself and any mods you have installed if you choose. This can be bad thing sometimes when a patch breaks something in the game or renders a beloved mod useless. This is unlikely to happen with OOTP, but I have had this happen with other titles on Steam.

Noob question...
I've always bought the game the old-fashioned way (read: not Steam). Are there any disadvantages to buying via steam? For example, in ability to modify the game's database files? I'm guessing the game doesn't actually live on your computer (or does it)? I tend to buy OOTP every few years -- had OOTP20, skipped 21, now its time to pony up again! |

The OOTP licensing system is also horribly cumbersome and outdated and at the whims on whatever fly by night licensing company these decide to use. Steam and Valce could conceivably go down, but if that happens, it probably means that the entire gaming industry itself it is mortal danger. |

I find Steam to be a bit of a pain because it has to be running if you open OOTP/any game, which is a bit of a resource hog on underpowered machines like mine.

actually, you can run a Steam game without being connected. you just don't get updates and those wonderfully useless achievement points. if you click on Steam without an internet connection, iyou are given a box with the option to open the game without being connected, or to try again with your interent connection. i've done it more than a few times - sometimes because i forgot to turn on my modem.

You should still be able to run the game directly from the .exe. The Long War mod for X-Com 2, for example, depends on this.

If you order from the webshop you can get it 3 days earlier:
(When you pre-order, you will get early access to the final beta version of the game on March 23, 3 days before the official March 26 release date!) and then add the game to your Steam library.

Just a side note that steam achievements, workshop, and time spent on game will not work.

Also, under Steam, you can play without being connected. I do it all the time.
