Here's one that isn't even retired yet (and won a triple crown as Raccoon ) Not first-echelon great, not even a sure-first-ballot Hall of Famer, and oh god, all the home runs, but still looking for a job this year, and the way my pitching staff is going I might just snatch him for a farewell assignment....
I would say he pitched pretty effectively at 41 & 42. Mostly used as a reliever and limited appearances.

Still, if you can get that from a 40+ year old it's probably better than a lot of 30+ year olds.

A little off-topic, but what year do you use for your settings? Whenever my saves get into the future and I just let them go everything is too inflated.

I use 1985 for every season.

Same league as Vanderzee. Best player ever IMO. Not adjusted. Most people do ask.

So that's what 80 stuff, movement, and control looks like on a 1-20 scale.

I use a mix of 2008-11 and also played with 70's style SP stamina and some increased stealing.

What do you mean you're playing with 1970s style Pitcher stamina? How do you do that? I know I can select any year I want from the drop-down in League Settings, but that's an all or nothing choice.

I'm having some slight issues with Pitcher stamina at the moment.

Bluenoser, are there like 4 people in your hall of fame? Those are some pretty high bars to hit there. Will Pat Hoerst even get in?

Just finished 58th season, and had our 28th player elected.

My HOF Standards were high at 90%, recently lowered to 80% (really wish there was a setting for 85%).

Hoerst will get in, even if I have to do it manually.

I played with these other settings to mimic 70's style SP which produced pitchers like Matsura above. The result was mixed. Regular RP got very little work and setup/closers got lots. I do the same with stealing bases from time to time. Right now I'm happy with the settings here. I have two leagues one NL focused (Colorado) and one AL focused (Texas) and I alternate playing them for 2-3 seasons at a time.

Oh geez...do I feel silly. I should have known that's what you were talking about adjusting. Thank you. I've never adjusted anything in the league totals section. I should start paying attention to it, however, from year to year.

One more thing...

On the left side, under General AI Roster Settings you have 7 relievers and 13 position players assigned to AL & NL teams. With a 5-man rotation that's a 25-man Active Roster, but I see that you've made an adjustment and allow 26 total players on your Active Rosters. By not increasing the number of relievers to 8 or position players to 14, does that give the AI freedom to add another pitcher or another hitter at their discretion?

Good question. I'm not sure as I'm in the offseason and busy with real life work. I'll check in-season but could be a while.

Yes, it does. This is the same thing I do.

When I used to play with Coaches on, I found the AI did a decent job. Managers that had a quick hook tended to carry an extra reliever. Those with a slow hook usually had an xtra hitter.

I turned coaches off though, but still see some variance among the AI teams. I'm happy with how it works.
