OOTP Future

Been reading some salty comments about the PT part of game & it's accurate. I voiced my opinion several months ago & owner nearly cleaned my clock........But I do have a suggestion to make for future editions of OOTP downloads

Markus, I love this game & have for 20+ years but PT has basically ruined it for me & why? I played the game for 17 years without PT & loved it more. I used to be addicted to the regular old version of creating universes & such.....I'm gonna ask but is there anyway people who play OOTP can download just the files in the future that don't include PT. Just the original part of game before Perfect Team was added. Problem to me & I'm sure others is that PT is very addicting. I would LOVE to purchase next years version with the option to have PT included or not. I would definately go back to the old way..NO PT. Over the last 3 years I have quit playing the old version bc PT takes up too much time...I missed it...So please try to have the option to included PT or not next year

If you open the game with your save file, it will take you right on past the initial splash screen. Even if you don't, you literally have to just ignore that one screen and you never, ever have to interact with PT in any other way (okay, I guess there are those announcements, which I admit are sometimes annoying, but those do cover lots of non-PT stuff as well).

In the long-term, yeah, they kind of do want you to try out the game. They do make a little extra money from it, after all. There's absolutely nothing saying you have to buy it, and in fact if you never bother to enter your email address to the right, nothing ever happens. It's hardly this major onerous situation to have to ignore one side of the splash screen when you're loading your league (or be presented with the existence of said right half when you load the way I do).

You're right, PT is addicting and time intensive. That's a double edged sword. I'm spending less time on PT this year than last as I designed a major QS, and am laying the groundwork for another adventure there...much more expansive. I miss just playing baseball.

The big plus about PT is the competitive juices firing up.

The big downside? As Judge Smails said so eloquently, the world needs ditchdiggers too. Too many of us are getting caught up in the notion that winning at the lower levels "doesn't count". In another thread, someone actually said that nobody cares about anything less than diamond anyway. Guess what...I do. I live for the times in the lower levels. That's where the fun is. Win with what you can realistically afford...like the Padres, only you'll sometimes win a series.

As for you grammar concerns, life's too short...uness you're THIS guy, who from his tone obviously thinks that nothing below diamond matters...

Heroin is a physical addiction. This is a bloody game. Good lord. Don't like it, don't click it like he said. Geez. I've been playing more base game lately and I only click PT when I actually want to rip a few packs or on days I just want to enter a bunch of tournaments. Still fairly often but that's 100% choice on my part.

Easy for you to say. I can't stay away, either. I do have the fortitude not to buy the game next year, I hope.

Again, if you open the game from your save file, you literally never need to even worry about clicking on the wrong half of the screen. If you seriously have so little willpower that you can't even do this (or just not click on the right side of the splash screen) then perhaps the Internet is not a place you should be interacting with.

Wow, great point. You know, you're right...you are totally the victim here. OOTP having that button to click on their home page, is pretty much injecting heroin right into your bloodstream. Why did I not see that clearly before? Thank you for illuminating the issue with such a perfect analogy.

I'm no expert but I'm on the internet but the Perfect Team forum may not be the greatest thing for you either. It sounds like it may be another trigger like having the PT option in game.

Maybe try direct messaging an OOTP team member or Markus directly with your comments and suggestions since that's your target. Most folks here in the PT forum probably won't agree with you, which if fine of course (internet and all). But expect Newton's Third Law in return.

FYI, you can actually disable the connection to PT if you add the lines below to your app.cfg (in %appdata%\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 21\config on windows). This will prevent the game from connecting to the PT (and challenge mode) servers, which will not give you the login prompt.

You will still see the PT information on the right hand side of the page, but it will not give you the login prompt. If you want to step away for a time and not have the temptation, that's always an option for you.

Let me introduce you to gambling addiction. It is a MF PITA and hard to control. Even if they would give you a possibility to download the game without PT, at some point you will be far enough to delete it and download the other version.

Underestimate if you will, but it is not only physical.

There is no way no how that they will give the user an option to download a version of the game which does not contain a huge source of income for them (and they shouldn't imo). How many people, not knowing what PT is, would choose not to download it who otherwise would love playing it once they tried it?

Also, if you love the game you should be very happy that there is another revenue stream for them as this could be addititional money used to support the classic game.

Creating a version without PT is hugely -EV for them.
