Looking for a league I can build a team in

Absolute beginner to OOTP but very savvy GM in Strat-O-Matic and other sim leagues. Mostly looking for a league where results are random based on the stats (or projections) and not tied to matching those. If Luis Arraez hits five homers in a week due to roll of the dice, I don't want him to be restricted in that capacity going forward. TBH, I'm not sure that what I said even makes sense, that's how newbie I am.

I don't know anything, OOTP-wise, so I'd appreciate guidance in the "rules" of the game. Sorry if I don't sound appealing! Todd

I do understand what you are saying, and I do not believe OOTP will ever restrict future production based on past production. There is a setting that implies it could do that, but it is off by default and I have never heard of an Online league toggling it on (or even considering it).

I've been considering creating a newbie friendly league but I am not quite there yet. For now, as you search, I would consider avoiding fast sim and/or joining more than one league.

Fast Sim is awesome, and it may end up being your favorite... but when you are asking questions about stuff your first season you very well may be too late by the time you ask.

It;'s easy to handle more than one league, but there is every chance in your first season that you are going to learn a lot about what you do... and do not... like. Your second league may be more what you enjoy, and that first league just a refreshing change.

Plenty of newbie friendly leagues, may just have to have a little patience for them to check the boards. Some of the really good leagues have GMs that don't post regularly and just check here once a week or so.

Good luck!

I will say [as the guy who "invented" fast-sim] that fast-sim leagues are really beginning friendly because you don't have to worry about long cycles to rebuild or depending on the league -- lots of simming cycles that you'll miss. I'm not sure what's out there right now in terms of fast-sim leagues besides the handful I'm aware of [I might do a separate post to get a census of them, as I've lost track] but I would say that fast-sim [which basically means some variation of simming faster than a few games at a time] can be a really useful way to learn how OOTP works before voyaging off to a slower-type league, because you can see your players develop over a calendar year and get through several seasons sometimes, depending on the pace.

Do hope you find something that suits you though!
