How much money do we think the average perfect team spent?

Thoughts?

The average/median team cost in the Perfect League (as of a week ago) is 5.96M/6.27M. The average/median playoff team costs 7.28M/7.25M. At this stage in the game, the most I can see a purely F2P team costing is like 2-3M if they got outstandingly lucky and/or have been working collections and the economy. If you're below that threshold, I would caution against assuming that team has spent money. If you're above... you're probably a whale.

EDIT: At levels below diamond, I don't think the main division is "money or no money". I think it's "did you do the live missions or not?". At diamond maybe you get 3 tiers: (1) actual big spenders, (2) F2Ps and tiny spenders who have gotten lucky and/or worked tourneys, collections, AH, something to generate more PP and (3) the SE-only teams who float in and out of diamond and gold. I don't have a perfect sense as to the distribution of all of those, but I expect 3 outnumbers 2 outnumbers 1 by pretty big margins each time.

I didn't invest a cent and currently play in diamond.

Work the AH and don't buy packs, play tournements for free packs/cards, do the 1927 Yankees in challenge mode and sell cards you don't need for a good price.
Micro manage all of your players, set individual and global strategys, think about batting order, subs, defensive subs.
Set a max pitch count for pitchers you don' trust and avoid high leverage for some guys.
Put in at least one SP into the bullpen and designate him as emergency starter.
Use ballpark factors according to your team. Nothing better than winning a ton at home.
You play 81 games there, design it to your advantage.
Think about L/R splits in your lineup.
Use a leadoff guy with hight contact and speed/stealing.
Think about wOBA and ZR more then e.g. OPS
Train up players for other positions if it improves the team at the end of the day.

There is so much more you can manage to have the maximum output.

Great points, here! The only one I might disagree with is that your first batter is a base stealer. "The Game" put that myth pretty much to rest. What IS most important is that your leadoff batter be a high OBP guy --- highest combination of CON and EYE, with preferably low POW --- particularly in this game, where POW enters the CON calculation, so a High CON/low POW guy will usually hit for a better average than a high CON/high POW guy will.

My issue with the highlighted statement is my time is worth WAY WAY more than spending time grinding that. A pack is 99 cents. 15-20 minutes of screwing around is worth 99 cents to me. Were I really broke, different story of course. If you have a philosophical hatred of spending a dime but do that, it seems to me that's a trade off and your time must be worth less than your principles, such as they are. If you have no money, pretty much a no brainer.

I have a friend who played OOTP20 last year and expressed his opinions on folks spending a ton on the game last year, as he was a ftp warrior. I pointed out then he had full mlb.tv (but only watched cubs games), buys AAA game titles for both his Xbox and PS4 on release, has top-of-the-line flight and racing gear for his PC no less, has 4 motorcycles, pays for commercial free hulu, and spotify, nfl season ticket, netflix, and hbo. He has not picked up 21 at this point, but did buy mlb the show and sunk money in stubs.

Now don't get me wrong, as I *might* partake in his lavish lifestyle choices lol. Some people yuk other peoples yum I guess.

Glass houses and all.

I've spent some cash that is for sure...but I enjoy it. Including the cost of the game? Probably between 100-175ish maybe?

Awesome info on the Discord channel. Great deals posted, great way to spend cash too lol It has save me $$ as well by not wasting PP on players who look shiny with their Diamonds and underneath that gloss is meh not so hot lol

yep no doubt. there's a lot of us in that boat. OP asked about perfect though...that's an entirely different question

the answer is measured in thousands, not hundreds.

2,499,521 reasons I'm not doing this right...

I'm glad there are people that are willing to spend a lot of money to fund this game, but I'll never be one of 'em. FTP can be fun but it also can be so frustrating. I spent 184K on "upgrades" this weekend just to probably be relegated back to Gold.

I ran across the attached auction and laughed at the price until I realized people were bidding on it. I'm positive that is more than my all my teams in 20 and 21 are worth. Just astounding.

If you take his 10.1 K/9 from 2000, his 1.1 BB/9 from 2015, and his 0.7 HR/9 from a couple seasons you have a player with Pedro Martinez's career stuff and the control of prime Greg Maddux! Throw in the "Special Edition" ratings magic beans on top of that and bam Bartolo Colon is the greatest pitcher in baseball history.

I really wish this game did not include fictional players with the same name as real MLB players.

I don't think the game will be truly complete until we get Mayday Malone pitching to Crash Davis behind the plate, with Roy Hobbs in the batters box.

Willie Mays Hayes was overheard from the dugout saying "you're killing me smalls."

Jimmy Dugan scratches himself, mutters a few curse words, then tips his hat to the crowd from the top of the dugout steps.

Crash Davis is a definite possibility, since he was an actual player:
