Trevor Bauer poses an interesting question on this whole situation: https://twitter.com/BauerOutage/stat...61168118972418

Quote:
So we gave up shares of playoff money, eliminating the qualifying offer for 2021, paycheck advance forgiveness, Covid 19 protections, and protection for non guaranteed arb contracts for next year in order to hold on to our right to file a grievance...
EDIT: Reading down that twitter thread, I see some people commenting that something the grievance might do is cause the owners to open their books. Not sure if this is the case or not. But, I could see that as a reason to hold onto the grievance.

Apparently, according to Mike Axisa at CBSSports.com, this is indeed the case.

MLB announces 2020 regular season

Quote:
Major League Baseball has officially announced a plan to return to play that features players reporting for training by July 1, leading up to a proposed 60-game regular-season schedule anticipated to begin on July 23 and 24.
That would be the best birthday present ever.

60 man taxi squad rules?

Anyone know what the rules for the taxi squad will be? Are teams free to shuffle people on and off the active roster such that essentially we are playing with 60 man rosters for the season? Yeah, I know, only 30-28-26 active per game, but what's to stop you from turning over your bullpen every day?

The fact that few teams have 8 good relievers, let alone 15?

This is really just a TV show for 2020 at this point

I vote for experimenting with the DH , extra innings rule to promote scoring, three fouls after strike two = you're out, players allowed to wear their high school uni's , managers allowed to manage from home via Zoom, etc,
.
I would go with 35 player rosters, pitchers need to warm up in the pen maximum 3 throws on the mound, and one beer per player between innings

Sixty game season ? Individual stats count but no WS, just a "championship tournament" with 8 teams, another asterisk in history

Has anyone heard anything about whether MLB.tv is doing away with blackouts for the season or not? I feel like I've heard or read something somewhere about something happening with blackouts. I could be wrong though.

Will there be any in-game rule changes?

With a tight schedule and a desire to limit time on the field, the Minor League rule for extra innings will be in effect. That means every half-inning after the ninth will begin with a runner on second base. The designated runner would be the player who made the final out in the prior half-inning (or a pinch-runner for that player), and the pitcher would not be charged with an earned run if that runner scores (it would be scored as if the runner had reached on an error).

Please note that this rule is only in place for 2020 and only in effect for the regular season. Extra innings in the postseason would not begin with a runner on second.

This remains the absolute single-most dumbest rule on the books, made by people who hate baseball, for people who hate baseball. Worse than the DH.

C'mon Mets!! Let's win in nine!!

The purpose of the rule is to resolve games-on the field-more quickly.

This rule accomplishes that.

So calling the rule dumb is really just a dumb way to say, "I don't like it".

This whole thing is a joke. I wont even acknowledge a 2020 MLB season. There's just too much wrong with it.
What if great players get COVID? What if managers get COVID? I'm not saying any human life is more important than another. Dont get me wrong with my "great players" statement. I mean your big stars needed to make the run at the *ahem* playoffs have to be out and quarantined. I know the same thing can happen with injuries and you have to battle thru, but you could have multiple big names gone all at once. Trout AND Ohtani, Albies AND Acuna, Kershaw AND Bellinger AND Turner. I know that's looking for trouble but it is very possible.
Then we could have interim managers in two, three, four places at once because several managers have COVID.
It just seems backwards where managers, owners and fans hope their players stay healthy thru workouts, All Star appearances, etc. but then trot them out where multiple players, coaches could get sick all at once.
Just doesnt make sense to me.

Players with the virus go on the DL.

Has the season ever stopped when stars got injured? Did the season stop when Giancarlo Stanton was hit in the face with a fastball? Did the season stop when Christian Yelich broke his knee? Why would it stop when Bellinger and Kershaw catch Corona?

Managers have bench coaches. There's interim managers. There's ****ing Zoom, for crying out loud.

"I refuse to acknowledge this", "Baseball lost me when they had the strike in '94" - You all need to grow up some.

Broken knees and fastballs to the face aren't contageous diseases that can be contracted by umpires, coaches, clubhouse staff, bus drivers, hotel staff, etc and then passed to the community at large.

I'd guess that Westheim and I wouldn't agree on what growing up means
