Does anyone like the in-game sound design in 21?

I get that there is some nice background nuance, but the lack of crowd reaction through most of the game is horrible. Not even a murmur for scoring plays or inning-ending strike outs. I like to hear a roar for a home run and a disappointed "oooohhhh" for a home team error. I hope a future patch will restore some GAME to the sound.

[And, btw, still a huge OOTP fan as I have been for many years, but want to lodge my gripe about this feature.]

you are not getting any crowd reactions?

if so i would check the edit sounds in the ballpark you are having this trouble in and make sure that the correct folder is selected and you have sounds in there.

I have also included a small zip of the sounds that are in mine. others may have considerably more extensive options. but if you unzip this into your default sounds folder it should at least give you most of the basics

there is also a good thread in the mods section that has some sound stuff - https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...d.php?t=314813

We improved these quite a bit for the MLB Dream Bracket videos, so if you are running the latest patch, things should be fine. Of course, there's always room for improvement, sound is one of the things we work on every year.

Thanks for the responses. I'll try to check the folders later today. I always try to keep the patches updated, too, but I'll 2x check.

So, I checked it out. All of the files seem to be in place. I also updated my sound drivers just to be safe.

I simply do NOT hear any crowd reactions. I hear the background crowd, ambient noises, "Strike three!" and "Out!" from the umps, crack of the bat, the organ hype song, etc., but I DON'T hear cheers and boos, nothing to indicate that the crowd is reacting to the plays or situations. To be clear, it's not a matter of not liking the sounds; I do not hear crowd reactions to the action.

Any ideas at all?

EDIT: I just went back and played through a game on OOTP20 on the same computer. Sound worked perfectly. All crowd reactions happened: claps, cheers, boos, ooohs. I don't know if that's helpful information or not, but it sure makes a huge difference in the in-game experience.

Help, please. I want the crowd reactions in 21.

I am also not hearing any crowd reactions, I just have ambient and game noises but nothing in terms of reactions. I checked my sounds folder and they're all there, and I also can't hear any of the custom sounds that I downloaded either.

If you're not hearing some stuff, definitely you'll want to check your sound card (probably video card as well) drivers and update them if a newer version is available. Or if you're on a Mac, do an OS update, if needed.

All drivers up to date. That was the first thing I did upon realizing this wasn't intentional.

I like to play both the current season, as well as 1901 and 1892 seasons. It is rather amusing to be playing a game during the 1901 season and then you hear an airplane flying over head. Airplanes weren't invented until 1903, two years later. I've tried to stop it, but no soluton yet. Still, though, more amusing that annoying.

I wish I could experience them.

As someone who plays out all his games, this is kind of killing 21 for me. For the time being, I guess I'll go back to 20.

I always check out sound and animation when I first get the new version of the game... I only listened one time and found the sound is still very poorly done... not so the animation... animation is getting there and has made great progress since OOTP19... I don't use the sound... it will probably years before it will be good enough for me to use.

But I thought that same thing about the animation two years ago and now I love using it.

Maybe one day I will be pleasantly surprised by the sound.

The play-by-play sound is just plain bad... the sound effects are not very well done and synchronized... when there's something good happening on the field, the fans need to react appropriately.

Please take my opinion with a grain of salt... I have not really listened to the sound that much... I could be very wrong.

I'm now convinced that the sound is not working properly on my machine, but I cannot for the life of me figure out why not. The same files clearly work in OOTP20 as the fans cheer and boo or ooh and aah for the right things, at least.

At first, I thought maybe they had just taken them down because people complained that there was too much cheering and booing or something. So, I was trying to say, "You went too far the other way."

But, I don't think that's the case. The game simply isn't playing those files in OOTP 21.

The crowd reactions seem to be working for the home team for me although it could be a little better. I’m not a fan of the "Let’s go Let’s go" chant but if it was "Let’s go Twins!" "Let’s go Twins" that would be a big upgrade. I like the organ and I do have my sound turned down to 60 because at 100, it was just too loud and distracted from the game. I love the crack of the bat sound and following the ball using the wide camera. Watching Buxton take away hit after hit and hitting .390ish is really cool. Hopefully it’s a predictor. I use a MacBook Pro with Catalina and the Retina display, 8 GB RAM.

Nope, you're not wrong. Sound has been half baked for quite some time. Here's what I don't get, at least in my game anyway. But, every time a home run is hit by the home team you get the horn without fail. Hooray! That's encouraging progress. But, then at times, on other home team scores there is no crowd reaction. Why the consistency on homers but not on other scores? Baffles me.

I have noticed that my team rarely has their name announced at away games. Only pitching changes seem to be announced at away games. I have created OGG files for my team only. The sounds play at home games fine. I don't want to copy these files to every stadium specific folder.

I noticed a new crowd sound when playing the Dream Bracket 2 tourney, the crowd goes into a "let's go let's go" chant when home team has men on base ,but to me it sounds weird, hard to explain. Listen for it and you'll see what I mean.
