The streets of Waffletown were packed with celebrating fans as the Syrups came back from a 3-2 deficit to win games 6 and 7 at home to secure their first trip to the World Series in their young history.
"If you woulda asked me about our chance to make the Series back in July, I woulda told you to give me some of the stuff you're takin', cause we sucked something fierce then...." said catcher George Gibson. "...but here we are... it's a strange game indeed." Gibson, the LDS MVP, was also awarded the MVP for the LCS. Waffletown will face off against AC champs, the Hartford Whalers in the World Series. |

Hartford has a solid squad, so should be a good series (even though they were a wild card, they won 1 more game than my bunch did during the regular season).

The series went down to the wire and in the end, Waffletown came up short as Hartford claimed victory in game 7 and won the series 4 games to 3.

In a small off-season move, a new backup infielder was found by the scouting department. Eddie Moore will be sent to the reserves to make room.
2B - Morrie Rath (67) - 1919 Rath will backup every infield position in order to train up his defense across the board. https://sabr.org/bioproj/person/50bba699 |

With the team in an early season slump, the GM of Waffletown nabbed a player off the waiver wire to try and give the offense a booster shot. Joining the squad:
RF - Harry Hooper (93) Pat Duncan will be sent to the reserves to make room. Hooper will take up residence in left field to train there, and Len Koenecke will shift to backup all three outfield positions. https://sabr.org/bioproj/person/4f4206c6 |

Thanks to an infusion of funds to the war chest (pulled Brad Lidge-97 from a pack and sold him), the GM of Waffletown was able to nab a new starting pitcher (and he's about as old timey as you can get). Joining the staff:
SP - Silver King (92) - 1888 Danny MacFayden will be sent to the reserves to make room. https://sabr.org/bioproj/person/cadc5ca0 |

Waffletown made a minor move this morning by acquiring a new infielder to bolster the defensive options for the club. Joining the squad:
IF - Joe Sewell (80) - 1926 Burgess Whitehead will be sent to the reserves to make room. https://sabr.org/bioproj/person/94842ba3 |

In a veritable spending spree for Waffletown standards the GM of the Syrups nabbed another deal off the waiver wire. Joining the squad:
C - Johnny Kling (88) - 1906 Hank Severeid will be sent to the reserves to make room. Management hopes the combo of Kling and Gibson will provide a solid anchor behind the plate no matter which player is in the game. https://sabr.org/bioproj/person/b647d3a9 |

With the team starting to get back to the winning ways, the GM of Waffletown continued his spending spree with mid-morning acquisition of a new starting pitcher. Joining the squad:
SP - Kid Gleason (92) - 1890 Bob Muncrief will be sent to the reserves to make room, and Ted Lyons will shift to the bullpen. https://sabr.org/bioproj/person/632ed912 |

While sipping on his morning coffee in the morning hours of an early September day, the GM of Waffletown spotted a deal on the waiver wire. He briefly considered holding off as he had a different player on his watchlist (and wouldn't be able to afford both, barring an unexpected infusion of funds). After mulling it over, he decided to grab the offer and take his chances. Joining the squad:
SP - Howard Ehmke (91) - 1920 Boom Boom Beck will be sent to the reserves to make room. Bucky Walters will shift to the bullpen and Ehmke will move into the starting rotation. https://sabr.org/bioproj/person/753ebff0 |

Waffletown celebrated their best regular season yet in their young existence, and their first foray into triple digit wins with an impressive 100-62 record (2nd best record in the league). The only thing that put a damper on their regular season success.... the top team in the league was in the same division (queue descending slide whistle
)"It's gonna be a battle no matter what happens. No one makes the post season by accident." said designated hitter Chuck Klein. The team had an outstanding year all around, setting new team records in wins (100), average (.275), runs scored (865), at bats (5680), hits (1560), doubles (307), triples (44), walks (527), on base percentage (.339), slugging (.454), OPS (.793), and stolen bases (168). On the pitching side it was a similar season, with records set in ERA (3.39), runs allowed (581), earned runs (554), walks (364), Ks (1236), and shutouts (18). The defense also had an outstanding season, committing an all time low of 53 errors. Their +54.1 zone rating ranked second all time (last season still ranks at the top with +63.7). At the individual level, Chuck Klein had an outstanding season at the plate, leading the league in home runs (44), and driving in a team leading 117 runs. Baby Doll Jacobson did his best to clean up whatever was left after Klein batted in front of him, and managed to hammer 35 home runs of his own and drive in 116 runs. And not to be overlooked, Stuffy McInnis did his best to be one of the table setters for Klein and Jacobson, and scored 110 runs this season to set a new personal best in that field. (narrator's note: gotta say that silver Stuffy McInnis card is probably one of the more underrated cards I've had so far. He just keeps chugging along and putting up solid numbers.) On the mound, Eddie Plank set a new team record for wins with his 22-9 record. New additions of Howard Ehmke (5-1), Silver King (13-3) and Kid Gleason (6-3) will hopefully establish a solid starting rotation that will keep the Syrups in contention for years to come. Waffletown will host the Ohio2 Babycakes in the wild card game, with the winner getting the honor of facing the top seeded 124-win Highlanders |

The Spile erupted with a thunderous celebration as the home-town crowd watched their Syrups sweep the top ranked Highlanders in three straight games to advance to the LCS.
"It's a tired old cliche... anything can happen in a short series... but you can't argue with it." said a champagne-soaked Chuck Klein, who won the series MVP award with his .500 average, 2 home runs and 4 RBIs. Waffletown will await the winner of Asheboro and Mean Possum |
