Where did all the SCREWBALLS go?
I do like the different player database for PT3.0. It seems there are more old time pitchers in this game, Quite a few of these old time pitchers have an effective screwball. This pitch makes a righty more effective against lefty batters and lefties better against righty batters. That is quite a matchup advantage.
But where did the screwball go in modern day baseball?

I believe it comes from a combination of:
- it's tremendously hard on the arm/wrist, to perform correctly - the advancement of other pitches like sinker, slider, circle change has really made the screwball's effectiveness rather useless

Isn't there a widely held belief that screwballs cause arm injury (no idea if scientifically accurate)?
I believe everyone thought that's what ended Carl Hubbell's career and therefore hasn't been used/taught much since. |

Screwball is also used as a stand-in for other pitches that are not otherwise in the game, notably the spitball, which hasn't been thrown legally in over 80 years (see Burleigh Grimes, Urban Shocker and a few others...)

There’s also that thing where you can tell a screwball pitcher at a glance because their hand rests with its palm outward...

Yeah, it does cause arms injuries & I guess that's why old-timers picthed 300-450 innings a year & these new guys can barely get 175. Being sarcastic a little. |

I threw a screwball in Legion Ball in the USA and it does torque the **** out of your arm.
